1. If you were to move on one of the Ashdown cabs you'd be able to stretch to an EBS Neo 2x12 , which seem to go through this forum occasionally around the £400 mark. I have one of these, Kiwi has 2 and we both rate them very highly - loads of bass, plenty of punch with a slight mid-scoop which you could EQ back in. Weight is 24Kgs which is an easy one-hand lift for most people.
 2. I used my Puma 110 combo for a gig on Thursday night (The Bull, Colchester for anyone who knows it), with an EA VL110 as an extension cab. Tried to take a picture but my crappy cameraphone failed to do a decent job. Band is a 5-piece covers band with a reasonably enthusiatic drummer. We weren't massively loud and the Tecamp had plenty of power with some in reserve. The second cab makes a big difference to the lower frequencies and gave me a nice full rounded sound. Modern kit is amazing!
 3. How about reducing the interval to 30 seconds or less? That would still stop automated posting but make it less likely that normal users would be caught out by it. I agree with Beedster, it is a slight irritation especially if you've only got a few moments to check the forum.
 4.
Hey Pete Send me your address mate and I'll send you those straplocks. Re the link, my bad and now fixed Chris
Hi Chris, I'd forgotten about the missing bit of straplock!. A PM will be on it's way shortly. Thanks for fixing the link. This is a top piece of kit at a bargain price, I'd have it myself if I hadn't just acquired a Tecamp. I can't imagine it'll be around for much longer.
 5. Curse you Joe, I thought Brusen's Celinder being sold had finally cured me of any GAS!
Who is Pete Hook?
Good grief! Even I know that one. Try googling 'Joy Division' or 'New Order'. noel27 I could be wrong but I thought that the original BBs were the BB800 and BB1000 in 1978, neither of which was neck-through.
 7.
Looking to find a box big enough to pack a speaker cab in for shipping it with a courier. Dimensions of the cab are roughly 635x440x440, so it needs to fit that at least, and preferable a little bigger so i can add some stuff in at the sies as a shock absorber. Anyone know where I can get one? Preferably double walled. I can only find packs of 10 online which end up costing like 30/40 quid when I only want one! If anyone has one spare, I'd gladly pay for it Or... other suggestions for packaging a cab?
Go down to your local cycle shop. They will be slinging out an excellent selection of large (if flat) cardboard boxes on a daily basis, 2 or 3 of which can be cut and fixed back together to package the biggest of cabs.
 8.
Bargain however you look at it
I can't look at it. Your link is broke, and if there are no pics it doesn't exist!
 9. My 30 years of engineering experience say don't ever use a stud extractor - the chances of them breaking is extremely high and when they do you are 100 times worse off than you were when you started. The only sure way I've come across to get a broken extractor out is a spark erosion machine. In this situation, the best way forward is a decent pillar drill or milling machine to drill out the old screw, starting with an accurate centre-punch into the middle of the screw and small new drill bits, increasing in size with each cut. BTW, the holes in the neck pocket should be clearance holes, not pilot holes. The screws need to screw into the neck, not into the body as well.
 10.
Hello. I am in the USA and I have for sale a tan solid body SGC Nanyo Bass Collection 24 fret. I cannot locate a model number for it anywhere. Bass is in very good condition with hard shell original. I also have an ovation solid body listed FS. Is anybody interested in buying one or both and if so how much? Pictures of both attached. Thanks Robert [email protected]
This is either an SB310 (based on the black hardware) or more likely an SB320 (based on the swamp ash body). I have a fretless SB325 acquired from Beedster which looks almost identical to this, except that mine has gold hardware. They would make a fabulous pair, too bad you're in the US because the shipping would make it prohibitive. Good luck with the sale.
 11. Hi, I'm gigging with the covers band Crossover in The Milestone, Ipswich tomorrow night. Be great to see anyone who fancies coming along. This could be the last-ever gig in the milestone if I've read the current situation right- not something you want to have on your cv
 12.
I'm looking for a little 125 to buzz around on till I can get my shizzle together to do my Big Bike test, so if any of you wunderful motorbikerists have a good running (tho bashed up is NOT a problem...I'm expecting to drop it a few times ) 125 road/learner legal bike you'd like to get shot of for a brilliant bass +cash either way, gimme a shout! I'm not after anything that'll depreciate, so cheap&cheerful will make me VERY cheerful!
That's too bad. All I have to offer is a Ducati 600SL Pantah which is taking up space in the garage.
 13.
£245 for the Yammy I lost interest at £73.
Crikey. Norman's Antoria Les Paul went for £215 which I thought was a lot.
 14. Collection of Yamaha bits - I don't think this is an SBV500 re-issue but I sold mine a long time ago and can't quite remember what it looked like. 15. Interesting looking Maya, plus a nice bonus of a half-reasonable HH combo! 16.
If you take a line out from the Trace then you can run it into the Marshall no problem. It's from the ext. cabinet output that you'll have trouble.
And if you took a line output from a 130W amp and ran it into a 15W amp, I'd be amazed if it made enough difference in volume to compensate for how stupid it would look. This has to be a wind-up, surely?
 17.
Its not just about the dots. Its also about understanding the genre you are playing in. A classical player who can read anything cannot just go into a jazz or a rock session and make it happen without some comprehension of the medium they are engaging with. I had a BBC Welsh Symphony Orchestra first bassist dep for me in a big band once (his call) but, despite reading every note 'correctly' he didn't come even close to swinging. If you ever read a classical score along with the music being played, you will quickly realise that the dots are only a part of the story. You have to know the genre.
Absolutely. Anyone who thinks that you read the dots, and just the dots, doesn't get it, never will. And this is also true for reading classical music scores.
 18.
i'd quite like to see pics of that cherryburst one, mainly because i've never seen one before!
Ah, so that's what it's called!
 19.
Funnilly enough this review references Chris Wood as a composer http://is.gd/4Ww5F but I think that's Chris Wood the folkie, not Chris Wood the bass player ( http://www.last.fm/music/Chris+Wood/+wiki )
Not sure about that, but Chris Wood the folkie is also a pretty good bass player - he was in the Oyster Ceilidh Band for a while before he really got into the fiddle.
 20.
For the record I do about 5 times a day.
Ha ha. Ironic isn't it that if it hadn't been for punk rock, Mr Sumner would still be an unemployed Geography teacher.
 21.
Fetch your ring finger into play.
Another thing worth trying is to miss out the middle finger and alternate the first finger and ring finger. I can't play any faster this way but the timing between the notes is more consistent. A great exercise I've found is the Flea version of the 'I Feel Love' bassline. I think there's a video of it on bassplayer.tv somewhere.
 22.
I only came on here to post this Antoria Les Paul in case anyone in Essex fancies it.
Nice work Norman! I would have given almost anything for one like this in 1976. My guitarist friend had the 6-string version. I'm very tempted.
 23. It depends what the finish of the bass that you're trying to polish is. All the above recommendations assume that you're trying to polish a cellulose finish - actually there's no need to spend serious money on megiuars because t-cut is just as good - my hand-made cellulose finish bouzouki was cleaned up with t-cut and it looks just fine, 30 years later. I don't think it's gonna work on a Warwick!
 24.
My 5 string plans have changed until I get a job in London. Plus I want to test a few other brands. We all talk about comfortable weight, but what weight is acceptable for a 5 string without giving back ache? All my 4 s are a very nice lowish weight.
The lightest 5er I've played recently was Happy Jack's Bass Collection SB325. I'm still kinda regretting I didn't buy that bass.
 25.
Below are 3 different basses, all offered on Ebay. I'm not highlighting Ebay sales I am just asking that if you had the choice, which one would you go for and why. Its just an experiment that I need to do. I shall reveal all later.
None of the above. I'd be looking for a Japanese not-for-export model. If I didn't already have one, that is.
