1. Here is my latest purchase, a 1972 Gibson EB3 L
2.
I once walked into Andy's Guitar Shop in Denmark Street with a guitar roadie from a famous Parisienne guitarist. He asked Andy 'can you recommend a good Polish for my man's guitars'? Andy answered 'Pledge' :-D I left the shop really quickly.
I'm not surprised!
3.
Spit. As recommended by repair guru Dan Erlewine.
Lol yes i've seen that. i've got the gunk off, it just needs a really good polish. I might try some of that Gerlitz No'1 Carnauba wax and polish. I've heard it's good.
4.
A lot of people use lighter fluid to clean away the years of grime n gunk then use a polish afterwards to get a good sheen and protect the finish.
Really? lighter fluid? never heard of that method before.
5. Hi guy's, (sorry if this is the wrong section), and sorry in advance if this has been posted before I have just purchased an old Gibson bass. The bass hasn't been cleaned for some time. I've cleaned it up with some Peavey guitar polish. However it hasn't come up how I would like. The finish is walnut. (nitro finish). Can you recommend me some polish/cleaner/restorer to clear the remaining gunk and bring the shine back up please? Many thanks.
6. This does it for me.......I'm gonna Tear Your Playhouse Down - Paul Young (studio version). https://youtu.be/EiJWXjz1uks
7.
Inspirations for me - probably the bass players I noticed before I ever thought of playing - were, in no order John McCoy Chris Glen Alan Lancaster Stephen Amazing (UPP) Tim Bogert (particularly his albums with Boxer & Marcus)
I'm so glad somebody else has heard of Marcus! That has always been one of my fave albums ever and I agree there's some great bass playing on there. I've met Marcus Malone a couple of times with his current band, he's a lovely fella.
8. I am currently the bass player in 2 bands (soon to be 3 bands). I also dep in a Sabbath tribute band too. I play in a Judas Priest tribute band called Hell Bent For Priest, based in Nottingham and we play (or will play) anywhere but mainly in the East/West Midlands. Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/hellbentforpriest/?fref=ts Video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eCsswUHrYQs I also play in a band called Synner which is a rock/metal covers band. We play in the Nottingham/Derby area. Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Synnerrock/?ref=br_rs
9.
I'd also recommend Relayer - his contribution on The Gates of Delirium is awesome. Fragile (of course) and Fish Out of Water. RIP Chris.
Relayer is my fave Yes album.
10. He was and still is my fave bass player and has been as far as I can remember. I'm still gutted.
11.
Looks like I'm going to be the lone voice of dissent then... No matter how unprofessional everyone else acts, as a band you should always do your very best. Don't stoop to the low levels of the promoter and venue, but get up there and play the best gig you can. If you don't play you get to be known as the band that couldn't be bothered to do the gig. It doesn't matter if you are "in the right" this is a battle you can only win by playing the gig. Then chalk it up to experience and have nothing to do with the promoter and venue again.
Yeah i'd agree with this, play the gig, do your best, put it down to experience, and don't bother with the promoter or venue again.
12. Personally I think he's an awesome player
13. What a lovely bass! but surely it's a 1980?
14. I'm not at all surprised that this has all but sold. I reckon I would have bought this myself if I could have raised the funds quickly enough. I hope it has gone to a good home anyway.
15. It took me a while, but yes i've finished drooling now! I just wished I had enough cash to buy it! Best of luck with the sale for this bass.
16.
I haven´t played this one for years as i became a Precision Bass addict, but i just put some Thomastik flats on it to get rid of some of the strong active highs, and now really begin to like it again. I think it´s a 1977, and it definitley is greenish faded inca silver. I don´t even have a pic of the whole bass, which reminds me i need to make some pics of all of my basses.
What a lovely bass!
17. My trio of vintage basses - 1975 Rickenbacker 4001, 1974 Fender Jazz and 1980 Musicman Sabre.
18. I used to use a mint 1X15 Acoustic Corporation combo, which I used for a Wishbone Ash tribute. I should never have sold it.
19. It's a beauty. I would have jumped on this but i've just bought an old Musicman Sabre from this forum and unfortunately I no longer have the funds to buy this. Good luck with the sale.
20. Here is my "cheapo" bass, a Spector Performer that I use for the Judas Priest tribute band Hell Bent For Priest (with added fretboard decals to look the part).
21. I use a Seiko ST 737 tuner at the sound check which i've had for years. Then I just use my ears on the gig, no pedals etc....The less i have to carry to a gig the better.
22.
I would like know, if possible what bass was used on the recording of He's The Greatest Dancer. I find it difficult to differentiate types of basses within the mix. Thanks in advance
I'm pretty sure that's his Musicman Stingray on that song.
