1. Get saving those bass tokens! You know you need this to go with your 68 😀 It would look so cool 😎 as a pair. Cheers Tony.
2. Thank you so much. Yes it is a thing of beauty and plays and sounds lovely too I might add.
3. Wow indeed, that's what I thought when I bought it. It's a shame it's not getting used hence the sale.
4. Price drop from £1,500 to £1,400 plus FREE UK delivery elsewhere at buyers cost. Hi fellow Basschatters. I have pondered about this for a while, and now i've finally decided to sell this rather beautiful Gibson EB3L 1972 bass (long scale) in Walnut finish. I am only selling this bass due to the fact it's just not getting used and it seems such a waste. This bass is the rarer Walnut finish, with just 204 EB3L's shipped in Walnut in 1972. The bass is 100% original. It comes complete with it's original case too in great condition and fully working (no key). The handle was changed however as it was missing when I got it but its a great quality one). The bass also comes with the bridge cover. The bass was set up to perfection by Xperience Guitars here in Nottingham and its set low and plays like butter. I would say that although this bass was made 46 years ago, that it is in excellent condition for it's age. There is one small ding on the top (pic 10), a few marks and clouding as expected of a bass of this age, and a few scratches on the plastic cover on the back, some small wear on the belly cut, but no real major wear. It's a nice slim neck too. The case is also in excellent condition. The bass functions beautifully. It has a 4 way rotor switch, 2 volume and 2 tone controls, 2 Gibson stamped pick ups, and not muddy and boomy like the earlier ones. 1972 was the year when Gibson did away with the Mahogany neck, in favour of a 3 piece maple one with a volute making it much stronger and less prone to breaks. The neck pick up was moved further back from the neck which helps it tonally I think. Although all 4 positions are useful I tend to leave it in position 2 as I just think it sounds the biz. I think this bass is worth every penny of my asking price. I've seen these for way over £2000 and this one does not require any work and it is in lovely condition for it's age. It's currently set up with 105 - 45 Rotosound strings and it holds it's tuning really well too. The weight according to my digital scales is 10lb before anyone asks. The serial number is 730045. All the technical info you may need is here: http://www.flyguitars.com/gibson/bass/1972gibsonEB3L.php I am NOT looking for any trades as I already own 3 other vintage basses. I'd sooner any prospective buyer was to come and try the bass so you can see/play it and be happy with it. I live about 5 minutes from Junction 26 of the M1 motorway in Nottingham. However if this is not possible I will post it at the buyers cost as I have a box and packaging materials. I've shipped stuff all over the world before and it will be well packed. Buyer pays postage costs and import duty/tax etc... where applicable. If you are serious about buying this and wanting it posted, I will box it up and find out the exact cost to include insurance for you. I will post anywhere in the UK (for FREE), plus elsewhere at buyers cost to most European countries (except Italy) and i'll ship to the USA/Canada. I do not ship to Africa, Asia and Eastern block countries sorry. I'd prefer a cash sale please or bank transfer. I will only accept PayPal if you are willing to pay costs incurred. I will ship the bass only when the money is cleared or in my hand. Thanks everyone, check out the pictures. Any questions please fire away and i'll do my best to help. This is a fantastic bass, a usable investment and will make somebody very happy indeed. My Feedback here: https://www.basschat.co.uk/topic/153732-feedback-for-clarkpegasus4001/ Video added from Facebook below. It's not perfect but it gives you some idea. (Sorry about the shorts it was REALLY hot that day! ha ha). https://www.facebook.com/clarkpegasus/videos/1090156694406671/ Cheers Tony.
5. Your guitar was made in Japan (according to the inner label) between 1988 and 1991. The Taiwan models were made from 1994 until about 1998/99.
6. That is a gorgeous bass I just wished I had the funds to buy it. Good luck with your sale.
7. That's a lovely bass and it looks very similar to mine from 1980. I've been using mine pretty much exclusively lately, these are such versatile basses. If i didn't already have one i'd be all over this. Best of luck with your sale!
8. Ah, I see, that's unfortunate. I also have a 70's Jazz, (1974) but i've started playing mine live again after being stuck in the case for a while. Good luck John.
9. That's a lovely looking bass, GLWTS
10. These are great amps I use one myself, and that is cheap too! Best of luck with your sale.
11.
I brought a P bass from Tony, he is a top bloke, very welcoming and very passionate about all aspects of bass A hassle free deal, bass as described and awesome communications throughout I highly recommend Tony. Cheers Buddy
The pleasure was all mine Marc. Many thanks for your feedback comments, very much appreciated. I hope you enjoy the bass.
12. Mark bought my Yamaha bass. This man is a top fella, a really lovely guy. He said he would be at my house at 3pm and he was, no messing. He is so easy to deal with, and as I said a lovely guy as well, and a fellow bass nut. Highly recommended
13.
Paul - this bass used to be mine, and while it's upsetting it didn't work out for clarkepegusus4001 and I wish him a speedy sale - please don't buy this bass for that! A couple of years back I stuck a thread up on talkbass asking about the headstock logo and got unsolicited offers from Yamaha collectors in the 800-900 quid range. Don't be confused by the low selling price This one is early enough, and has the low serial and less common headstock logo, and is in reasonable condition that it's quite desirable and please please don't cut it up to add an extra string! That said I hope the OP gets a sale, and he's a great guy so, if you buy it and modify it - don't ever put anything about it on basschat for us to see!
Too right Luke! I'd hate to see this bass modified in any way. This bass is 100% original and certainly a collectors piece. I wouldn't want to see it modified it's far too nice for that. This is a quality, rare and vintage piece of kit. It is at this price for a quick sale, given I need the cash to fund another bass that has suddenly been made available to me which i'd sooner have over this bass. It's another vintage bass I was actually looking for a while ago. I was going to use this Yamaha for my new tribute band, but I can use another bass for that. There are a couple of these model Yamaha's for over £1000 for sale elsewhere, and another for over £2000 (in Japan) for sale, so this is proper bargain.
14.
Can you tell me the nut width please?
According to my tape I make it 43.5mm. The neck is big but comfortable. I can play it no problem at all and I only have small hands. Hope this helps.
15.
Amazing BB1200. I have a '79 and it is a wonderful instrument. GLWTS!
Thanks!
16.
A beauty I have a Yamaha BBVIIS MIJ and the build quality is fantastic this must be even better! Good luck with the sale someone will get a bargain here.
Nice one. Thanks you are right, it's a steal at this price and the build quality of this is spot on.
17. I have just bought this bass recently from a fellow basschatter but i've decided that this bass just isn't for me, and I've just been offered another bass which I prefer over this one, but I need to sell this first. hence i'm now putting it back on the market. What we have here is a totally original 1977 (first year) Yamaha BB1200 bass made in Japan. The serial number is 001134. This one does not have the BB1200 on the headstock only the Yamaha logo, so it must be one of the very first produced. It is a neck through construction not bolt on, It has an Alder body and an Ebony fretboard. It has simple passive electrics, one volume, one tone, and a Precision style reversed pick up. The frets are in excellent condition as is the entire bass. It has one small blemish and minor marks on the top but overall this is in great condition for the year and a rare find. The action is low and the volume is even all over the board. There are no crackles on the controls, and the tuners are very smooth indeed. It comes with the original case (some damage but perfectly functional). It even includes the original unused pick guard, and tools. One tool is damaged but there is a replacement there. Weight is 9.75lb according to my scales. I am only asking £650 for this tone monster which considering the prices I have seen on the web, is stupidly cheap. I am looking for a CASH SALE ONLY please no p/x's or trades on this. I would much prefer cash on collection, but I can post at your cost. I will post to UK, Europe and USA/Canada. I don't post to Italy, Eastern block countries, Africa or Asia or South America sorry, check if you are unsure. You can pay by Paypal as well if you are prepared to the cover fees, or bank transfer is fine. Anyone wishing to view and try this first is more than welcome by appointment. Somebody will be delighted with this bass and i'm sure you all realise it's probably worth way more than i'm asking for it. Here are the pics.... http://s935.photobuc...7?sort=3&page=1
18. I'm not sure i'm keeping this bass but I could do with a new strap anyway. I've been recommended the Gruvgear Solo neo strap by the guy in Bass Direct. Not cheap but.....Any experiences anyone?
19.
I ordered two comfort straps for both myself and the bands other bassist. They work and feel nice, but to me they look quite cheap with the foam and 'stretchy stuff' ontop. If you're comfortable with the aesthetics of it then it works wonders and helps me carry my MTD KZ6
I don't care about the looks so long as it does the job TBH. I was talking to a good friend of mine last night online and he says he has been using Comfort Strapp's for ages. Probably the way to go for me then. Thanks for your imput.
20.
Judging by the OP's user name and avatar pic, we might conceivably be talking about a Rick here in which case advising that he uses a different bass is probably not helping.
I bought my Rickenbacker 4001 at the start of 2006 and it was my only bass for about 8 years. I now have 6 basses including the new Yamaha. The Rick is a moderate weight and i've gigged for years without no problems using the same strap as I have now. The Gibson is also a tad on the heavy side. The Fender Jazz, Musicman Sabre are light as is my Spector Performer I bought for use in a tribute band. I have used the same strap on all bar one and not had a problem at all. I use a different strap for the Spector I use for a Judas Priest tribute band but that bass is light as a feather anyway. It's odd that the balance of the Yamaha is great, unless i have done something to my shoulder? i'm not sure, but it felt far too heavy when I played it the other day. Chances are I will buy a Comfort Strapp. If I still have the same issue after buying another strap i'll have to consider moving the bass on and just use another bass (probably the Musicman as I used that for the new bands debut gig the other week). I need to have the Yamaha set up and I can't take it in for a couple of weeks anyway so I have plenty of time to sort out a strap. Thanks again to all for your imput, it makes interesting reading.
