1. The Tone Hammer has a permanent place on my pedal board; you're right it doesnt colour the sound anywhere near as much as a Sansamp, you can get some really nice grit from it and it's nice having mid-sweep eq controls. I find it sounds particularly good when used with the Sansamp BDI, I blend the two overdrives in together and it sounds way better than either of them on their own to my ears.
2. I gotta say I think it'd be very difficult to beat the Ampeg SVT-VR, would sound killer through the NV-610 too! I got one a few months ago and it's the tone I was after. Damn expensive tho I'll admit. I'm having to resist the urge to get a Barefaced '69er haha.
3. Played a little acoustic show in costa coffee on Sunday night, (would add a photo if I could figure out how on the mobile version of the site!) used the orange terror bass, haha gain and volume both below 1 on the dials, through the bf S12. Sounded magnificent and from the feedback I got im pretty sure the sound filled the room pretty evenly. Was a fair few people there & a lot of passers by stopped to have a listen. The guy who put on the show got a txt at the end of the night from a girl who was there asking if I was single so I guess I must have played alright
4. If only I'd not just gone and bought myself a MIM Precision... =/
5. I use 45 - 105 on my four string, but on my five string I prefer 40 - 115 as that bass seems to have higher tension and lighter strings seem to balance it out a bit.
6. I havent been gigging regularly for a couple of years now but I remember these types of shows all too well. Seemed to happen rather alot as I recall. Although we've very occasionally left straight after our set we almost always used to stick around to watch the other bands and hand out fliers etc, try and sell some merch. It takes half the fun out of gigging if you're not gonna engage with the crowd and do some networking with the other bands; it's a great way to build your fanbase and open up future opportunities.
7. Hello mate, just a quick question; how much use has this had? I know you said it had been sat in a studio other than the occasional live use, did it get used much in the studio? I know it sounds odd asking but I really love the tone of this amp, however I bought one last year and it failed on me after two hours of rehearsals, and Ampeg couldn't fix it, either didn't have the parts or whatever. Seems if a new amp is gonna go boom it's usually in the first few hours of use... I really want this amp, but I don't want it to blow up on me again =/
8. I use the Tone Hammer as well as a Sansamp Bass Driver DI, they sound great together! The sound you get when you blend the overdrives of both together is epic.
9. Hey guys, For sale is my Traynor YBA300 all valve amp. It's in pristine condition, and comes with a Roqsolid case, power/jack cables, the manual and the original box/packaging if you want it. It's thunderously loud and sounds amazing, really versatile too. Plus it's really light for an all valve amp, weighing just 23kg. I'm after £550 for this, I'm not really interested in trades. Here's the specs from Traynor's website: Power @ min. impedance (Watts) 300 @ 2/4 ohms switchable (250W into 8 ohms) Minimum Impedance (Ohms) 2 Burst Power - 2 cycle 400 Watts Frequency Response (Hz +/-3dB) 30 - 16,000 Hum and Noise (dB) -90db Inputs 1 Channel 1 - inputs 2 x 1/4inch Channel 1 - controls Gain Master Volume Control Yes Main Tone Controls Treble, Mid, Frequency, Bass Input Sensitivity (mV) 20 Master Outputs Pre-amp out (Pre Master) Line Out (type / configuration) XLR Balanced (Pre/Post, Grnd Lift) Line Out Sensitivity (Vrms) 200 Effects Loop / Location Pre-amp out, Power Amp in, Loop Thru Effects Return Sensitivity (Vrms) 1 LED Indicators Power/Standby External speaker output / location 2 x 1/4inch, 1 Speakon (Rear) Other Features Bright, Deep & Resonance Switches Impedance Selector (2/4 ohms) Tubes: 3x12AX7, 1x12AU7, 12x6L6 Tuner output 1/4inch Dimensions (DWH, inches) 11.5 x 24 x 10 Dimensions (DWH, cm) 29 x 61 x 25.4 Weight (lbs / kg) 51 / 23 Collection preferred. 10. I'm rather tempted but doubtless this will have already been sold by the time I've sorted myself out ready to buy =/
11. I played one of these through an Ampeg 410HLF in the States a few years ago and I gotta say it sounds amazing, ridiculously punchy & really nice tone. Have a bump on me!
12. Ok cheers for the advice guys. Might just have to give it a go and see.
13. Hey guys! So I've been searching Google for a volume pedal small enough to fit in the last spot on my Pedaltrain Mini, if such a thing of small proportions does indeed exist! One that's come up as promising is the Morley Mini Volume Pedal. Looks like it will just about fit on the board, though I'm not sure it'll fit in the Pedaltrain soft case. Also in a few reviews it's been mentioned that straight out of the box the taper is horrible, but that you can open it up and adjust the LEDs in the bottom of the pedal to make it a smooth taper like you'd expect from a decent volume pedal. As I'd be using it exclusively for swells the taper is kind of important. What I wanted to ask is have any of you lovely people had any experience with this particular pedal, if you think it'll be alright on a PT Mini, how customisable is the taper etc. Also, if you have any other suggestions I should be looking at it'd be greatly appreciated! Thanks Johnny
14. Yeah it sounds pretty incredible! So damn loud, I love it
15. I'd recommend the Barefaced Super Twelve T, it's really punchy, super light, goes as loud as you'd ever need. It responds really well to EQ changes on the amp/bass unlike some other cabs so you can really get a totally different sound with the twist of a few dials. I've got the tweeterless version but it still has all the highs I'd ever need. Johnny
16. I'd definitely go to one near northampton, I'm there all the time anyway as it's my home town & I'm only living 25 minutes away in MK. Do it!
17. Yeah the CL is weird in that when I had one it didn't sound anything like how I thought it would... In fact I didn't think it sounded that great until I used my Sansamp BDDI with it. The SVT-VR sounded epic though. Too bad it broke after two hours of rehearsal =/
18. I bought Andy's Orange Terror Bass on Friday. Really great guy, very friendly, the amp was very well looked after. A pleasure to deal with. Cheers mate!
19. Dang if this was in sunburst I would've bought it by now
20. Hmm well I could bring my Super Twelve and come try it? I'm thinking the OTB would sound mint for my hardcore band. What's your availability? Cheers Johnny
21. gahhh so tempted.... still havent managed to try out an OTB though =/
22. Hey mate good idea with the extra rubber feet...Did you use screws to attach them, or are they self-adhesive ones? Btw how did it sound with the EL34's? Mine has 6L6's This is a great amp btw! Good luck with the sale mate.
23. Stef bought my Ashdown 115 cabinet. Really nice guy, smooth transaction. Would definitely deal again.
24. Ok cool, finished a part time course there a few months back! Pm'd
