Any interest in a trade? My EHX Micro Synth for your Owen + a bit of cash?
I'll pass on that one thanks Joe - the EHX Micro Synth looks like fun, but I know that I'd use it once or twice - then it would just sit collecting dust... And I've got folks that are interested in buying the Owen... All the best Jim -

1968 Kustom K200B head - SOLD Serial No: 32052 (Kustom serial numbers for the K200B - 25287 to 32199 for date range Jul-Dec 1968) The story goes like this... I bought this from a guy in the USA some months ago & had it shipped over to the UK. The head was then taken to top amp man Steve Rowse for conversion to UK voltage (which required a new power supply, etc) & a full service. Unfortunately it then became apparent that the amp was a long way from being in the 'perfect working order' the seller had described. Ahhhhhh - eBay - don't you just love it? It had cost me about £200 + duty so I just couldn't be bothered with the hassle of sending it back to Alabama & got Steve Rowse to set about restoring/repairing it... He spent a great deal of time & effort restoring the preamp back to working order - but the power amp section is beyond fixing further (it does work - but the output is very low/quiet). The next step in bringing it back to life is to replace the power amp section - which is were I've decided to stop with this project. So this super cool iconic vintage amp is for sale as a restoration project only. The conversion to UK voltage has already been done for you - as has the restoration of the pre-amp. I will supply some schematics as well. These are the original eBay pics - & the head is in very good cosmetic condition considering that it's 40 years old (has a small fag burn on top & is missing 4 feet from the bottom I think) Make me an offer!!! Anything & everything considered!! Having the voltage conversion to UK mains done properly by Steve Rowse (brand new power supply, transformer, etc) + expert restoration work on the pre-amp cost me £150. So that's all I'm after for the amp - £150 (or that approximate value against a trade/px). I think that's very fair. As you'd then be getting the amp itself for FREE! Collection preferred (I'm very close to M40 J10). Cheers

Over the last year I bought a collection of pedals, preamps & DI boxes for a big recording project - so I would have multiple options for sounds/tone. I've now got a fair few things that I don't need anymore as I've settled on a set-up & sound after lots of experimenting... DHA VT1 'Purist' (Mk1) Bought new from Dave Hall. Used a couple of times in a home studio. Never gigged or even taken out of the house. So in mint 'as new' condition. Complete with power supply as supplied by DHA. £60 inc Postage. PayPal OK. Cheers folks!
Good man!
I'm going to be having a bit of an interesting 'Sale' in the BC Marketplace at the weekend (need to take some pics first) - so this will hopefully raise me the funds to be the Aguilar from Steve. But I daren't buy it without other stuff going out the door - or the Mrs will kill me!
My current band will be fizzling out shortly but some members may reform and to be fair we ought to change the name. Is there an easily accessible online directory of bands currently working? I suppose most of them should have some web presence so a check by Google or in MySpace will probably turn up most of them but would be nice if there was a single directory somewhere. Cheers Kev
www.bandname.com
With both a refinish & a re-fret would it even be worth close to the £2000 mark?
Yep - around £2K is the going rate for a refinished pre-CBS Precision & then only if it is 100% original parts.
My questions to the seller have gone unanswered. Apart from asking for a shipping price I asked about the truss rod & back of the neck. I'm not going to risk bidding without getting answers to my questions, so it looks like this'll be the one that got away. Ho Hum.
It's a tricky one for sure - as the new pictures he's posted are now making me have a complete re-think as they go a long way to confirming that it is all original. So I've run it by some guys I know who are very knowledgeable about vintage Fenders & they are thinking the same. Which does make it a very nice & very desirable rare vintage Mustang... But I would always walk away from any eBay transaction where a seller doesn't reply to questions - let alone a seller in the US when you have no opportunity to go & view the bass in person.

I've got an all original 1966 Mustang bass & it's a nice clean one - but it doesn't look anything like that one. As mentioned by others - the headstock just looks all wrong - I've never seen any Fender from 1966 with a headstock & decal as clean as that... Colour? As far as I know - no '66 Mustang basses were made in that blue finish ('Sonic Blue'?) & again it just looks too 'fresh' to be from a 42 year old bass. IMHO Looks much more like a refinished bass - both the body & the neck (with a replacement decal). The case is original - & they are pretty valuable on their own. I could be totally wrong & it could be a perfect 'time capsule' original 1966 bass - in a rare (for a Mustang) custom colour finish. But I would be VERY careful...ask to see a picture of the neck date & rear of the headstock.

I'm cynical and no Fender expert but...
Wow! I just read the build diary. I assume you're going to be hanging onto this one, then? Lovely bass. I can see a queue of people with tongues hanging out from here!
Oh yes - she'll be coming to the grave with me!
Wow Jim .. Great picture and fantastic looking bass and amp ..
Thanks Si - we have a pro photographic studio at work & I took the bass & amp in & got one of the guys to take some shots for me. Here's another of the 1960 Jazz (had to do a fair bit of Photoshop work on the clipping path to get this cut-out so cleanly on white):
Ooh, nice! Full of art deco vintageness! Bet that sounds incredible! I can't believe the condition of the jazz, either. I haven't had a chance to read the rest of the thread, but has the bass been refinished at all? Rich.
Thanks Rich. Yes it does sound rather lovely! The bass is 48 years old & one of the very first Jazz basses ever made (July 60 neck date & a very early SN) - and it's generally accepted that less than 250 were made in 1960. So it's a very precious thing! Here's the full story of eBay discovery/build thread on the restoration by Andy Viccars: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=1615

A new pic of the 1960 Jazz together with my 1965 Ampeg - it's a bit arty...but quite cool I think.

How much would you pay for a set of tuners?
i think anyone buying that needs to seek medical help. they would never add that kinda value to a 60's jazz even if it does restore it to complete original condition, surely?
Yes it would add that value (& more) to a 60's Jazz if they restored it back to its original condition - that's exactly why they have that sort of market value... -
I was talking with Paul Geary the other day about in-ear monitoring and ear-protectors as he's just had some made. He used an independent supplier, Hand-held Audio, however the actual items came from ACS in Banbury. Some research has shown that they have an extensive dealer network and can provide a similar service to Specsavers. I have an appointment at my local chap later today to be measured up for some T3 in-ear monitors and some ER hearing protectors. If you have a preferred set of earphones then I believe that they will make some ear-moulds to take them. According to their web site they will be exhibiting at Music Live. Perhaps they will be offering a special show deal.
ACS in Banbury are the company that Specsavers use Dave. I went to the Banbury branch of Specsavers for mine & they told me they were actually being made in Banbury... I had very poor service from Hand-held Audio - took them weeks to reply to email requests, then could never get 'the right guy' on the phone - so I gave up in the end (& I would have had to travel quite a distance for the fitting). Then I found out you could just walk into any branch of Specsavers (one in most towns in the UK I think) & get exactly the same product - with excellent professional service at the same price. Usually I would advocate using small/independent companies - but in this case I found a big national chain to offer a much better service IMHO.
Thanks Tony, I'm going to make an appointment when my local branch opens this morning (Shipley).
I got mine from Specsavers Joe - they were excellent. Definitely would recommend them.
