1. Fast forward to Christmas 2014. My dad mentioned that my Uncle was looking to sell the 66 and would I be interested. It took about all of 30 seconds to decided and she was mine again. My uncle had played around 250 gigs on it but was needing something with a maple neck for the new funk thing he is doing. During this time it had EMG actives in it which he was going to keep. Bass was collected around March and stored at my parents. More time passes but i have been busy shopping. A set of Nordstrand NJ4's were purchased and a Fender original spiral bridge plus a KiOgon wiring loom. May 2015 was the first time I was back in the UK. Also the finish work was not great. I decided to throw all of the parts into the bass and at least play it. Just to seel if I got on with it. This is where the project takes a unexpected turn. I had also bought a 62Ri with J East retro and Nordstrand picks and a badass. I had the intention of stripping all the good bits of and selling them on and putting the 62 back to original condition. I quiet liked the Retro and the pick ups turn out to be Fender noiseless ones not Nordstrands. How ever the 62 sounded and played great. Decision time. I decide to make the 62 a nice passive bass with Nordstrand NJ4's, KiOgon loom and the 66 with the retro and Fender noiseless pickups. It was here I ran into issues, In short order J Retro is not a direct fit into the 62 or 66 Jazz bass Fender noiseless pickup covers do not fit into the 66 Nordstrand NJ4's didnt work I was a little upset at this point. I now had two bass and neither of them worked. To have a least one working bass i put the Noiseless pick ups in the 62 with KiOgon loom. These looms are very well made and a great upgrade I started to work on the 66 finish as I wanted to remove the touch up paint. At least I could try and salvage something from this trip... Next trip back I will white primer the bare wood and finishing the back of the neck in nitro. Nordstrand have agreed to look at the pickups so I just have to figure out what form to fill out so i don't get hit with customs as they need to be sent to the US. Possibly i will get to play it for the first time in 5 years
2. Back in Nov 2011 I found a 66 RI for sale here in the classifieds. Candy Apple Red, Baddass bridge, custom pickups, plus the orginal Jap ones, a hard case, dots and binding. The only downside was that the previous had tried their hand at relic-ing. Being a bit of a Fender Japan junkie I couldn't say no. A deal was done and bass was shipped to my address in the UK. Being as a now live in Oslo and wasn't back till Christmas some time passes.... Photo from the advert Fender Jazz Bass 66RI by kempy535, on Flickr When I finally got to play the bass I was a happy man. With only a few days back in the UK i decided that I would try and tidy the relic work and strip the bass of the badass and Shed pick ups. Previous owner said there were modelled after geddy lee's pick ups. Not being a rush fan i decided to move them on. Tear down in process 1966 Fender Jazz Bass Japanese RI by kempy535, on Flickr The relic work was very crude. The seller admitted this in the add so I had a crack at tidying it. Also there it was in places you would expect to see wear. This was she looked like when I left 1966 Fender Jazz Bass Japanese RI by kempy535, on Flickr The plan was when i was next back was to white primer the bare wood and install pick ups and original style bridge. Somewhere down the road I decided that I had to many basses and guitar and had to thin the herd. Also around this time we we looking to buy a new house and stuff had to go The bass was sold to my Uncle.
3.
So here it is, a wonderful bass guitar that I stupidly let go over 20 years ago. Just last week I was having a bit of a window shop and couldn't quite believe my eyes as I appeared to be looking at my old bass. I messaged the seller and we ended up having a really good conversation on the 'phone about the bass and sure enough the details of the instrument and it's history matched up perfectly. I've a good knowledge of the instrument so have a very good idea of it's true value, but of course as I'm not the owner of it and as much as I would dearly like to be, that's not something I wanted to get involved in. As I watch the ebay auction for the last hours I can't help feel just a little bit sad to see it but I won't get a chance to play, see or even own it again. I hope it's in great shape and the new owner gets pleasure from it, but I guess this is a farewell. http://www.ebay.co.u...K%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
early 60's script on the head stock and old style tuners. Holes for ash tray but none vintage bridge. Some sort of early fullerton RI?
4. Yes you can. Pick ups them selfs are always passive.
5. Hi guys, thanks for the input. I dropped Nordstrand an email and they said send them in and they will look at them. If they haven't been abused they will fix under warrenty so fingers crossed. /Mike
6. Hi all, I have a set of Nordstrand NJ4 pickups they appear not to be working. I have put a mulitmeter on the connections where the wiring is attached and i get no reading, I tried the same on another set of pickups and i got a reading so the meter is good. The wiring seems to be connected and the copper wire is attached on the connections. I have tried them in the bass and nada. Any thoughts oh where to go now? I am gutted to find these arent working /Mike
7. My dads '73 P Bass. Id love to track it down and bring it home Fender P Bass 1973 by kempy535, on Flickr
8.
There's a cash adjustment of £150 coming my way on top of the trade as well to even out against my asking price, which I found to be pretty fair.
Im not sure how much Stingrays go for but that sounds like too little coming your way. I don't think Id pay more than 500 for the Jazz. Aimho
9. Nothing looks out of order from the photos. If you want to be certain then take the neck off and check the stamps on the back on the neck and neck pocket. The thing that would put me off is the hole cut into the back with for the active pickups
10. Does anyone know what the bass are made out of and what electronics are in them? I cannot decide if going this way or ordering something from unfinished Warmoth and paining it myself is a better idea.
11. The Fender Japan website that listed all of the Fender Japan models has been down for a few days. Not you just get sent to the normal Fender website. If its true I will be disappointed
12.
But people coming up and having the brass neck to offer you half of what you ask for (particularly when I don't think I'm being unreasonable in the first place) is irritating. I completely agree with 40hz above me whose reply came in as I was typing this.
There was a bass listed in the for sale section beck before Christmas and I assume the guy listing it at what he thought it was a reasonable price. I thought it was very over priced and offered him what i though it was worth. Around 50% or the advertised price. He turned me down very curtly. I wished him good luck with the sale and left it. Bass is still for sale and almost at the price I offered him. Still no takers So was being a lowballer? Or offering what the value of the guitar was worth?
13. I don't see an issue with low ball offers. People are only prepared to pay what they think something is worth. If I am selling something id rather receive low offers than none at all. It might make me think that the item is over priced and adjust accordingly or that i have written a bad advert. Its not personal just business
14. I cant believe you cut the top with a hand saw! You Sir have skills Great bit of building work
15. The biggest for me is the dots and binding on the neck. I'm sure fender only made them in 66. No date stamps on the neck. 64 written in blue pen
16. This is a bit like one of the spot the difference games. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1969-70-Vintage-Fender-USA-Jazz-Bass-Fiesta-Red-Refinished-With-Hard-Case-/181694740126?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item2a4dd9b69e
17. I think its a great idea and would be certainly interested in one. The fact I can use it as a music steaming device is a big plus. A down side is the apple only support. If they music stream quality is as good as they claim i don't see an issue with the price either. Compare it to Sonos or a Bose system.
18. Just to add weight to your statement about clear finishes. I have a 72 Jazz with clear finish from the factory GLWTS

That is lovely. glwts
20. Jake is a great guy to deal with. I brought a Jazz bass from him and he was a pleasure to deal with. Bass was as described, shipping and packing were spot on. Highly recommend
21. Do you have any photos with the switch cover off? I am interested in seeing what the damage to the body is
22.
I'm not a big fan of Rob Chapman in those Anderton videos.
Im glad I am not the only one that thinks this.
23. That is a bargain for someone there Good luck
