  1. Barefaced Big Baby (Generation 1?) Price DROP £300 This is one of earlier Barefaced cabs – same size as the original 15” Compact but this one has 12” speaker and 6.5” mid-range unit. The nearest I can find on their websites is this for the Big Baby T which also has an additional tweeter. https://barefacedbass.com/product-range/big-baby.htm Size= 25.5" high x 19.5" wide x 13.5" deep (64cm x 48cm x 34cm). Weight = prob a tweeter less than 36 lbs Overall the cab is in good nick no major dents or scratches. Its covered in that bumpy cold scrotum effect paint that Barefaced used on their early cabs – seems to have lasted well. The handle is not in a good shape – still works but the rubber is coning away. I think Barefaced sell a replacement. Also got a roqsolid basic cover Sound wise it’s got a lovely smooth and rich bass and strong mids – IMO much nicer than the original compact that I used to have. It’s a great all round cab. Afraid its pickup only from N Essex – I can drive a bit to meet up if it helps.
  2. I'm in a similar position - just started dabbling in cello - I need to get a few lessons. So far I've found the transition to tuning in fifths less painful than I expected. And those Bach suites that are so hard on the bass are easier on the cello (well left hand anyway). My tip is to buy a mute for practice. I find the cello quite loud and strident and when its played less than perfectly (ahem) it can be a challenge for loved ones , neighbours and the local cat population. I find a practice mute helps take the edge off......a bit...and its cheaper than sound proofing the room.
  3. Just sold my musicman to bassofdeath. Very easy transaction, all went very smoothly good communication before meeting and we had an interesting chat.. Adam is a really nice guy to deal with.
  4. Yep this was similar to my experience too except I got a Krivo. Recent post covid rehearsals have been in a boomy empty hall which created lots of feedback problems. But once I fitted the pickup it worked fine - its such a relief to plug in and turn up to a suitable volume. It sounds enough like a db to keep the rest of band happy.
  5. Well spotted...but its the cats bowl. Thanks for positive comments folks.
  6. Goodtime 17 fret tenor Banjo with Resonator, blonde, with tone ring. Excellent condition Price following advice now £200 Lovely looking thing given to me as a special gift and I cant play it....fingers too fat......pathetic. So it is like new. I have sought permission to sell it on and am guessing at the value... Anyway comes with a case would prefer pick North Essex or meet up.
  7. Musicman Stingray 5 Purple and maple neck “Purple ray….Purple ray…” as the artist formerly know as etc might have sung. Having spent too much on a new old double bass I need to recoup some cash so having to let go my faithful Musicman . The serial number dates it to 2000. Its in funky purple with mirrored scratch plate – very disco. Its been a great workhorse – very reliable and good to play. It has a few chips and dings on the sides and the fretboard has the slightly grubby look that old maple boards acquire. But everything works fine and it sounds great. Usual 3 band eq. Comes with suitably well travelled hard case. Pickup from North Essex - I would rather not send but happy to meet up. ..and finally still life with purple bass (back) and letter from the council...
  8. if your still pondering a german bow I've got an old one you can borrow if you like.....
  9. there's a nice looking tecamp 900 in the amps for sale (not mine and not related) - its what I used to use with a hartke 410
  10. I got one of these and I love it. I always use it for my db in the war against feedback and battling the boom - its got a low cut filter and a notch filter. The other features eg tuner/mute/eq/compressor are handy too.
  11. I'm playing more double bass at the moment so time to free up some space and sell my trusty Hartke 4x10 bass cab Can handle up to 1000W. 8 ohm. Its in good but used condition - v reliable and has a cover. Its got speakon and jack connectors and switchable tweeter. The casters on it making it very easy to move around and light enough for a weakling like me to lift in and out of the car or up and down the odd steps. (originally had removeable casters but after kept falling off I screwed on some better ones). Pickup from North Essex - I can drive a bit to meet up if it helps
  12. I have one these fellas and I really like it - with some TI flats on it does a great impersonation of my double bass and is a lot easier to play and carry round.
  13. Congrats on getting a big band seat. I made a similar move a few years ago and have not looked back. I really like the way its improved my sight reading and general musical skills and forced me to play different types of music. Though some of the numbers are a bit cheesy - can you play 'Wheels' and keep a straight face? I've actually gone from bass guitar to double bass - which has gone down well with the band - but sound wise adds another layer of problems. My solution to stage sound has been to be to put something close to my ear off the ground (1x10) so I can hear myself without too much feedback and then park another speaker somewhere nearer the front of stage . Its a bit clunky but seems to have worked. Some band members are also good at letting me know if I'm too quiet ..or too loud.
  14. TC BC208 2x8 Bass cab. In excellent condition – about a year old. Its great little cab but I have just too much stuff. · Rated power: 200 watts · Impedance: 8 ohms · 2x8" sound custom drivers · Connections: 2 x 6.3 mm jack · Dimensions: (W x H x D): 262 x 546 x 315 mm · Weight: 10.4 kg Pick up from North Essex – happy to explore options to meet up. If you wanted the tiny TC BAM 200 head as well I would let that go for £65….but only if it goes with the cab.
  15. Set of lightly used Helicore Hybrid Strings 3/4 Light tension HH610L. I tried them on my bass for a couple of months - but I've been having a bit of string swapping fever and these perfectly good string are now surplus. Even got the original packaging...seen here resting on the sofa after a gentle pluck. Say £65 posted to UK
  16. I bought it off somebody on basschat a few years back - forget who - I think he may have been in Ireland. but not sure where he got it from
  17. Yes Ive got an older that I got s/h on here. It looks a bit like this https://bacchus-guitar.com/node/3421 but with Bartolini pickups. I've got it strung with TI flats and use in either nig band/jazz trio and odd musical. I love it - its my goto 4 string - build quality is great and the feel is just spot on for me.
  18. They are amazing instruments.... Funnily enough my double bass teacher is better known for her nyckelharpa playing - she's a great all round musician and plays all kinds of things (swedish bagpipes anyone) but her music degree was on double bass........ http://www.swan-dyer.co.uk/n
  19. Thanks for the warning and the investigation.
