1.
My point isn't really about T Shirts, more about, why do we have to look like a hobo or the other extreme. The guy that shows up for a gig after work wearing a button down Oxford Shirt dress pants and wing tips. ( if your in a jazz group, I'm sure that look is fine ) Blue
Yeah sorry afterwards I realized my post was more a rant about another point I guess and went off topic, my bad. Yeah I do get what you mean, and now i'll be dropping out of this cause y'all seem to have it handled..
2. As far as the oversized t shirt thing is concerned, which is i'm guessing part of what you're getting at, Perhaps they feel really bloody uncomfortable in more "right size" t shirts. I Certainly bloody feel self concious when i'm in a t shirt that's pretty fitted cause of my weight, so that's certainly not something i'd be comfortable wearing up on stage if it was a t shirt and jeans thing. Same reason I get annoyed when I order a tshirt and it turns out to be XXL "Slim Fit" without the site saying the slim fit part WHAT THE HELL! Though I have some ideas other than a t shirt to wear if/when I get a band together, which hopefully would look better than my t shirts. I know they're not the "smartest" being oversized for me, but at least I feel comfortable around other people in them.
3. Glad I didn't update my post from April about this as you've started this one Likely going to be picking one up myself due to having had alot of my vote choices if not all having made it to the final bass. Yes I wanted that headstock damn it Though I may well swap out the pickups after a while for actives due to them having the control cavity routed out bigger especially for after market electronics. Only thing that annoyed me was the neck was originally going to be bubinga aswell, but they veto'd that vote in favour of the maple to keep the cost down, which in the end is fair enough. And I have plans if the oil finish can be taken off enough to get a new stain applied to make mine a bit less coffee table Funny how the general fugly comments I was seeing from guitarists are echo'd here, Oh well. It's not a fender clone so i'm happy
4. Here's some pics of my Warmoth from when she was first assembled, She doesn't look bad for her age now, but that's due to university interfering with me keeping a decent practice schedule and such, That and me not keeping to one Anyways... Pics. and just how different the colour can be under different lighting.
5. Nibbs Carter Steve Harris Les Claypool Cliff Burton Geezer Butler Ian Hill Steve Webster Lemmy Cliff Williams John Entwistle In no Particular Order, The Ox wouldn't be at the bottom if it was
6. Is the nut width closer to a Precision or a Jazz? I looked on sandbergs website and I couldn't seem to find it Also what kinds of USA Precisions were you considering? Sorry if either of those should be in a PM instead of just asked here.
7. Waitrose Car Park on a particularily busy day, hopping between cars because the idiots hadn't put any kind of crossing place anywhere, eventually moved my car to the petrol station to nab the cabs. All topped off with a hung-over mother after her works christmas do, just as I hadn't travelled near to great yarmoth before. Well worth it for my cabs. Ok maybe not that weird but it was a bit surreal doing deals in a petrol station car park... not something i've done since or before then mind you
8.
It probably needs more input from those who specialise in bass. It's great that Chapman are branching out, and I realise these are at a set pricepoint, but it needs some work.
Well it was voted on by 100 who signed up for it. it was trying to not just have thousands of guitar metal djent.... fellows voting on it, and more bassists/ guitarists interested. I seemed one of very few of the 100 that had spent greater time on bass than guitar...
9. Well as I say I think alot of the wood at the back is getting hacked off for the second lighter prototype, so probably be solved then.
10.
Be interested to see a 5`er
Would be interesting, won't be happening for now, only being released as a 4 string currently,
So this will be the poor man's warwick?
Pretty much yeah, it was going to be a bubinga neck through too but they decided to cut costs even more and negate our vote and go for plain maple neck thru :/
The bridge is really far forward. Neck dive?
I think they're shaving quite a bit off the back of the body shape for the second prototype, aswell as weight relieving it, Which I think'll probably inflict neck dive maybe. Not sure. seems like the nut width isn't that much bigger than a p bass, though I know how for four strings a jazz bass seems favourable. That's one thing about this, including the fact it isn't drilled for string thru (another change they did in secret) that means me converting one to five string will be easier. It'll end up similar to my warmoth 5 string for string spacing I hope, maybe a bit tighter.
11. Well just thought i'd update this, incase anyone's interested. The first prototype has arrived! =] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X4tAGDubfmE Two changes have happened without telling those who voted, The neck is now Maple with wenge strips, still a neck thru. Instead of bubinga (Sucks to me personally ) And for some reason maybe the bridge can still do string through body, but they haven't got the prototype drilled for that.
12. I was thinking just killswitch to silence it when needed, but volume might help.... haha
13. When madness takes over. For those interested: Chicken head switch- 1: Jazz (Distorted to genuine Jazz Sound due to placement of pups) 2: P/J 3: P 4: MM Series 5: MM Parallel 6: ALL OF THEM! And killswitch to silence the beast.
14. A P bass by shape only Partly want to build this.
15. Amps in working condition, no tears or marks in the tolex, Apologies for the dust in the picture, was taken in mad rush, will be given a brush over before selling. But yeah 10" Speaker, 30 watts, headphones input and a cd input, even a ext cab 80mh jack socket, never tried that though. Looking for £45. Reason for sale is not being used anymore.... and taking up space for when I move back home. Located in Stafford, Could meet a shortish distance (Max an Hour away) for a bit extra for petrol also. Thanks for looking
16.
Good call, thanks for posting. All the more so as I, too, am one of the '100', and have yet to be made aware of these advances. The 'comms' from Chapman seem to be sporadic, at best. No, the final design is slightly different from what I would have ideally liked (and voted for...), and I can't really comment on any price positioning without information from Chapman themselves, but it's an interesting step. The delays have been horrendous, but kudos for at least trying to get a 'bassist's bass' off the drawing board. I'd like to see/hear the prototype in action.
Thought there may have been one or two of you here haha. Aye yeah I understand about not commenting on the price positioning without more information, On that thread I've just defended the spec as it ended up so strongly because not many would have. I voted for a different body wood also, and maybe one or two other things were different to what I wanted originally , but in the end i'm still excited, Maybe i'm too easy to please ha. I can't wait for the prototype either, I'll update this thread with any more news that happens Yeah delays were a pain, funny to see how it's been about a year and a half since the 100 was first collected together, Then the 7 string guitar seemed to swoop in, and the signature and special runs. Not complaining but we did get a back seat maybe :/ ha.
17. I just thought i'd post this here to try and get more bassists from the UK In the know about this, Here's a link to the latest forum post about it, Apologies if this is bad form linking another forum, but I just wanted to get the word out as I said. http://www.robchapman.tv/forum/threads/mlb-1-price-point.28384/ After a group of a 100 voted on the spec, of which I was a part of, the specs are: (The group of 100 was to stop thousands of guitarists voting on a bass, when rob wanted to design a bass for bassists) Chapman Bass MLB-1 No of strings: 4 No of frets: 24 Scale length: 34” long scale Body shape: "Asteria" Body wood: Bubinga Body Finish: Natural Oil see photo Headstock shape: Headstock C Neck and fretboard wood: Bubinga neck with Wenge fingerboard Fret inlays: Side dots, plain front with Infinity logo at 12th fret. Neck construction: Thru Neck Fret Material: Stainless steel Neck Profile: Modelled on one of Daves - 24 frets Fretboard Radius: 8" Top Nut Width: 1.7" Truss rod adjusted at the headstock with a black cover. Bridge type: String through - A Type bridge (capable of being strung through the body and top loaded.) Pick ups: x2 Coil split CG Humbuckers Controls: x1 Volume neck pickup x1 Volume bridge pickup x1 master Tone and coil tap x1 pick up blend Nut Material: Tusq Jack socket: Side Input Machine head Type: Standard modern style Hardware colour: Black In the next month or two the first prototype will be coming back from the factory (Just an estimated time scale I don't know myself quite how fast they'll churn out the prototype, but the plans have been verified and sent off) I must admit one of the main reasons i've posted this is to raise awareness of this bass to a forum filled more with bassists than guitarists wanting a bass to record with and such. There's been certain resistance to the estimated £649 Price, which to me for the specification sounds incredibly good value still despite it being one of their more expensive offerings. Which I am starting to save up for, for definite. I don't have any affiliation with the brand other than being a forum member. Mods, I apologise if it's bad form to link another forum, or anything i've said, or if this is in completely the wrong area of the forum. Well Thanks for reading if you got this far
18. The new Mag line stuff sounded good from an Andertons video I watched, Not sure if it's a pity I've just upgraded my set up with a Spyder 330, Have to see how I get on with it when it's properly played alot.
19.
The later stuff has "MADE IN PRC" on the back. Peoples Republic of China....
Which should be taken with a pinch of salt without immediately condemning it to be bad. That's less the case now than ever.
20. Pity they went with a fretboard that needs a finish when the neck is wenge, Still looks mighty nice... Pity there's not a hope in hell I could afford it. Oh well.
