1. Cheers Buzz - that looks very interesting!
How aboots: http://billfitzmaurice.com/W10.html
2. Does anybody make what I want? All my gigs are PA-supported, so all I need is a monitor. I'm a great believer in having a cab on the floor close to you actually pointing at your head, as opposed to a conventional cab blowing air past your ankles / arse. I also like relatively uncoloured cabs which give me a reasonable reflection of what's going out FOH. At the moment I'm using a JBL Eon 15 PA cab powered by a Mark Bass SA450, and this actually does a very good job. However, it would be nice to have something a little more compact and perhaps a bit lighter. Does anybody know of a full-range 12" neo cab in wedge format?
I was going to load Cubase onto my PC, but I've got two different versions to choose from. I already had VST 32 5, which is an old version, but my Lexicon Alpha came packaged with Cubase LE, which is a cut down, but newer version... Which should I use?
I'd go LE. It has a lot more in common with the more recent versions, and is pretty well-featured to get you going. Alternatively, check out Reaper.

This is my current fave, and I've tried a few! http://www.bteaudio.com/software/Juicy77/Juicy77.html
5. I was watching that for ages and decided against bidding. Starting to get pangs of regret! It was pretty messed-up though. I emailed the guy and he said there were some nicks on the neck too which would bother me more.
6. The latest installment in our residency at Mr Lynch, Jesmond. Hopefully all the band will turn up this time! Band on at 9.30, 10.30 and 11.30pm. Free entry before 10.30pm. Open 'til 2am.
7.
as far as I'm aware, they are one and the same - called Ex Factor, but they have Factor on the body
The 'Ex-'Factor has the 'Ex'tended low D gadget.
8. The eBay timer is now fixed. Feel free to give it a try: http://www.quicksound.co.uk/timer.shtml
9. I wrote a little app to help with last-minute/second bidding. See what you think - I use it all the time! I generally wait until about 5 secs on the clock... http://www.quicksound.co.uk/timer.shtml (let me know if it's not working as it does break from time to time and I can't check it at the moment as I'm at work). EDIT: er, yeah I think it might be broken. I'll fix it tonight and let you know...
10. I also have the M&S cover, funnily enough I also have expensive mountain bikes! The standard cover was comparable with other insurers (house+contents), and the 'away from home' addition (the important bit) was an extra 80 quid I think. Miles cheaper than specialist music / bike insurance. I haven't had to claim (and hope never to!), but so far I think it's a great deal.
11.
It will more than likely be a 300w at 8 ohms cab, as most of Traces early ones were like that.
Mark V and earlier cabs were only 200w. 13. I have a TRB6, TRB5II and BB1500A. The TRB6 oozes class and build quality and has the punchiest gut-pounding bottom-end of any of my basses. Slightly hissy electronics, but not noticeably so in most situations. The TRB5II feels slightly inferior in build and resonance, but still delivers great tone. The BB1500A is simply the dog's. Jazz-style playability with more flexible active tone (if you like that kind of thing, which I do). Just seems to sit perfectly in a mix. Slapper's delight!

15. The original TRBs are a very fine bass indeed, but in my opinion they've got a little more bland with every iteration. I'd love to try a modern TRB5P though (the expensive one).
16.
Of all the covers we do the one that goes down an absolute storm is All The Things I've Done by the Killers. Dunno why but audiences at all sorts of different gigs really love it.
Funny, we did it for the first time at a wedding on Saturday and it went down a storm too! (which was good cos a couple of the band were moaning/unsure about doing it). Here's our current set (not in order): She's Electric - Oasis All These Things I've Done - The Killers Hey Ya - Outkast Nobody Does It Better - Carly Simon Smooth Criminal - Michael Jackson / Alien Ant Farm Hit Me Baby - Britney Spears Money Money Money - Abba Don't Stop Me Now - Queen Misirlou - Various Higher and Higher - Jackie Wilson Girls and Boys - Blur I Wish - Stevie Wonder Rock DJ / Love Supreme - Robbie Williams Hard To Handle - Black Crowes Mama Told Me - Randy Newman / Tom Jones I Feel Good - James Brown Superstition - Stevie Wonder Gimme Some Lovin' - Spencer Davis Group Word Up / Lady Marmalade - Cameo / Gun / Patti Labelle / Various I Saw Her Standing There - The Beatles Soul Man - Sam n Dave Play That Funky Music - Wild Cherry Brown Sugar - Rolling Stones It Must Be Love - Madness Get Up (Sex Machine) - James Brown So Lonely - The Police Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen (We're playing at Mr Lynch in Jesmond, Newcastle on Fri)
17. The latest visit of Spangler to Mr Lynch in Jesmond. Watch us cock-up The Killers and murder Madness in three 30-minute sets of aural bludgeoning starting at 9.30pm.
18. Surplus to requirements is this C-Audio RA3000 power amplifier. 625/400 watts per channel at 4/8 ohms, bridgeable to 1250 watts into 8 ohms. 'Used' condition, but very reliable save for a slightly scratchy pot on Channel B. Sounds great with bass. It is identical to the later RA3001 specs-wise - only differences are the connections on the back and the case design. Manual here: http://www.quicksound.co.uk/articles/RA100...02_3001Data.pdf Can supply flying leads for xlr or jack connections. Asking £120 collected or will meet within reasonable distance of Newcastle for petrol money. Could post but it'll be expensive - weighs about 15Kg.
19. Started on piano, then french horn to grade 5. Got into drums as my first band used to keep the gear at our house. I now dabble in drums, guitar and keys though I'll always be primarily a bass player. I think it's genetic. Got an Ibanez RG760, Squire Strat, Simon & Parker electro-acoustic and a Yamaha DTXpress feeding DFHS drum samples. Oh and a Trace Elliot Supertramp Stereo Chorus 2x12 combo. And a Casio weighted leccy piano, again running through some nice piano samples.
20.
If you play an instrument, you are a musician.
Maybe, but at what point do you say someone is 'playing' an instrument? You could give anyone an instrument and they'd get a noise out of it, but you wouldn't necessarily call them a musician!
21.
I know that there is "no such thing as correct technique" but when you rake it not only screws up your timing but can be really detramental to your playing in the long run. You need to alternate your fingering for more complex patterns and for funky deadnotes etc. I'm not saying I'm perfect, I still find myself raking the odd notes from time to time by accident, but when I do it trips me up.
You need to practice your raking then!
22. If anyone else wants one of these I have one going too - I'll do the same, £12 inc p&p. (VHS/PAL)
23. I love my PJB briefcase in that unobtrusive practice amp in the house role. It really does sound good.
