1. Very cool. Interval training is so under-rated. If you nail it (so that you can relate the intervals to the fretboard) you can play just about anything by ear.
2. It's that time again, Spangler @ Mr Lynch in Jesmond. Well-known tunes for drunk people to get jiggy to. *New this week* a bit of Duran Duran, plus all the other crap we play every time. You know you love it. Embrace the cheese*. Come along, drink beer and foster inappropriate thoughts about freshers. Free before 10pm, £5 after. Band on 9.30, 10.30 and 11.30pm. *Guaranteed free from Mustang Sally and Brown Eyed Girl. Prepared in an environment containing nuts. Side effects may include nausea and headache.
3. Reaper is not free. REAPER is available for download without technological limitations for evaluation purposes. Once you have evaluated REAPER, you should purchase a license.
If you're after a DAW set-up I'd try Reaper (http://www.reaper.fm/) which is excellent & best of all - free - but it sounds like you're after something a bit simpler, and I don't think the drum programming is actually all that easy.
4. Connect your v-drums to a laptop with a decent low-latency sound interface and a copy of Superior 2.0 to really see what 'leccy drums can do! I use a cheapo Yamaha DTXpress like this in my studio - it's so much fun. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=roLX4ZW2Ldk
5. I have one of these surplus to requirements: http://www.jhs.co.uk/bb_blaster.html Surprisingly ok clean sound, but the 'zap' button distortion is laughably horrible. Haven't tried it with bass, though I'm sure it would work as a basic headphone practice amp. Pretty much as-new. Yours for a tenner.
6.
Indeed you have Alex But a tilting mechanism wouldn't allow a cab to tilt back far enough. I know you've mentioned a cone of 30 degrees radiating out from the speaker but in practice, on stage, I definitely need to have a cone more or less pointing at my ears to hear it properly.
The loss in bottom-end doesn't really bother me as I know my full range sound is going out front. I find the positioning of a close wedge cab pointing directly at me head more than makes up for any loss in bottom-end response. While it's nice to have the low freq vibes coming through your feet, I find mids/low mids much more useful for pitching in a noisy gig environment, plus the positioning lets a lot more top-end actually reach your ears, as opposed to your arse. The JBL is a one-handed carry, so with the Mark Bass SA450 over the shoulder and bass in t'other hand, I'm a one trip man!
7. I'm after exactly the same thing - a compact, lightweight wedge. Using a JBL Eon PA cab at the mo, which does a surprisingly good job.
8. A couple of cosmetic marks but otherwise very good, fully-working condition. Review here: http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/Oct04/arti...arfdiamond8.htm £80 collected from Newcastle (pretty heavy!).
9. Absolutely - plug it in to EZDrummer via midi and you're away. Don't bother with the on-board kit sounds unless you have problems getting the latency low enough for responsive live playing, in which case you can use them just for monitoring (at the expense of some feel for the EZ sounds, but you can always tweak later). I record using a DTXpress with Superior 2.0 (big brother to EZDrummer) and it sounds phenomenal.
10. Tee hee, especially when some elementary research reveals what it was bought for It's worth what it gets at the end of the day.
11. Pics and location please! Am I right in thinking this is 34" scale?
12. The usual spot at Mr Lynch in Jesmond, though unusually we have two, count 'em TWO deps (first gig for Mr Dep Geetar), so we're going to be on our toes with this one. First set 9.30 (everyone sitting down looking, polite applause, us wondering if it'll fill up) Second set 10.30 (pissed folk start the dancing, really gets going towards the end) Third set 11.30 (mobbed, girls flashing their bits, fights down the front)* *based on last time. You mileage may vary. Spangler can not guarantee sex or violence. Free before 10pm, £5 after. If you miss us we're back on the 1st Aug.
13.
...I would, thus, from the comfort of my own a***, consider that, in terms of integrity, musicians that play their own music (in the broadest sense) are a cut above those who imitate others, however accurately.
What if their own music really, really sucks?
14.
I want to light a small band (safely). Anyone know of an idiot's guide? Any tips?
Make sure you apply liberal amounts of petrol / lighter fuel, but do not return once-lit.

16. Digitech Jamman is cool. You can upload samples / loops from your PC which opens up a lot of possibilities - instant drum machine for one thing.
17. I have the briefcase and as a practice amp, which is all I use it for, it is superb. Apart from the sound which is fantastically clear and detailed, it'll sit relatively unobtrusively down the side of a sofa or whatever so you're always ready for a sly funk!
18. Funny that, I reckon they zing for longer than average! Certainly longer than Elites.
19. I regularly use the Warwick Red Labels. Like 'em.
20. It's here again, our regularish slot at Mr Lynch. Probably the last one for a few months. Expect some good tunes, some bad jokes, lots of students, a late licence and all-round good times. First set 9.30pm, though the later ones are always more lively. Free entry before 10pm, fiver after.
