1. Anything under £100 I suppose I can live with. Unfortunately I've been checking the used market and there just isn't anything that excites me at the moment. The Ashdown just gives me the sound I love, the one in my head when I'm thinking of bass.
2. So my trusty Ashdown MAG 300H quit on me last Sunday. Left it with a tech who came recommended and apparently it needs a new transformer. Still waiting for a quote so my question is this: at what price point in repairs do you call it a day and just replace it?
3. Let's go the other way : Evil Blizzard have 4 (that's FOUR) bassists. Epic.
4. Thanks for the advice and the links. I've downloaded a bunch of these and so far my favourite has been an Ampeg which works well. It just adds a nice depth to the sound without too much colouring of it. Some tbh have been dreadful but the search continues for the grail 😎
5. Got a GSR200. It's my main bass for everything. Wouldn't swap it for the world. Not in a covers band so I only need to sound and look like me. Have looked at expensive instruments, even thought about buying 1 or 2 but when I ask myself "is this better for what you do than what you've got?" The answer has always been no. Bonus is I paid very little for it and I love how it looks.
6. Great stuff, thank you. I'm away on holiday for a while now so I'll give them all a rattle when I get back. Do you always use the IRs when recording bass?
7. I've just found out about impulse responses and what a difference they can make to your recordings. I've found loads of guitar cabs but I've found nothing for bass. Anybody know of any sites worth a visit? Obviously, free would be awesome 😀
8. Devin Townsend presents Ziltoid the Omniscient. Totally bonkers.
9. Seriously cannot believe this started out as an old broken down front door. Stunning.
10. Amazing work. The ingenuity and creativity leaves me in awe. Genuinely beautiful.
11. Looks really good. That green is stunning.
12. Cheers, you live and learn eh? My Ibby's a 34 right enough but there's surprisingly no real difference in feel when swapping between the 2. Don't suppose it really matters now I've burnt the sh*t out of it LOL.
13. It's a 32 inch scale with nut to 12 fret 16 inches. Does that qualify as short scale? I thought they were usually 30 inch.
14. I'm confused now. When I put the serial number in it takes me to the 2 page. But reading the explanations it makes no sense. The SN is 2864041. If anyone can shed light that'd be cool. As you can see from the state of the headstock now it's been sanded off but I honestly thought it used to say 11 (can't really do roman numerals here but you get the idea).
15. I think you might be right actually and it is a 1, although I could've sworn it was a 2. It is definitely not a shorty though.
16. Here's a close up of the body and, yes, I know the tape job isn't perfect but I sorta like it like that.
17. I was a bit worried about the tape as well. so I varnished it. I needed to put something over the picture of the good doctor and varnish seemed the logical solution as I was using it anyway. If it goes badly I'll take it off again and think of something else. Here it is, all back together and restrung. It actually plays better than it ever did as I gave it a good old setup at the same time. It'll never replace the Ibanez but it's got a nice vintagey tone to it. It actually turned out better than I expected - I thought it was only going to be fit for hanging on the wall at the end LOL. Anyway, the picture:
18. It's a 2. I bought it second hand so don't know much of its history except it was made in Japan.
19. Sorry for the double post. I don't know how to remove it.
20. Neck reattached and pickguard sitting loosely. I can no more for now because I need a couple of small parts. 22. All varnished ready to put back together. Note the ubiquitous Anarchy symbol on the headstock. 23. My new band is called Plague Doctors so I had to stick this little lad on.
