1. Recording out at Einstein Studios near Antrim. Great place to spend the day - brilliant gear and Frankie is an absolute hoot. This is the third track off the EP - it's called Headless and so far it's sounding great. Unfortunately our singer is loaded with the cold atm so we didn't get any vocals down but we cut the session an hour short and Frankie is going to give us the time some evening over the next couple of weeks. Disappointing not coming home with a finished song but it couldn't be helped.
2.
RUBBERSOUL! ah, i was talking to you on fastfude the other day about your pickup upgrade idea!
Well there you go! Small world. Still thinking about that PUP change.
3. Spent the day in the studio. Played a Moon Custom - lovely bass. Great day.
4. Schism by Tool - not quite finished yet but on the way.
5. Westone Concord. I've had it since I was 16 and it's absolutely knackered. Now play an Ibanez GSR200 which I thinmk is a brilliant bass for the money (I paid £90). I would like to buy something a bit more up market and with humbuckers at some stage but the Ibby does what I need it to do and then some.
6. Yes, that's it. I have Roto 66, 45 - 105 on right now.
7. I love them! Really wish I had that sort of skill.
8. What gauge would you recommend for D standard tuning?
9. I must say I've never liked the look of the violin bass but some of those others in the pics look gorgeous.
10. Thanks for the feedback guys. I must actually look into some of the others - the Epi should be available somewhere in NI at least. I'm a bit scared to order one off the net without trying but I really really want one.
11. No thoughts? i'm in a genuine quandry here. I have no place to try one of these myself - there's no stockists in Northern Ireland.
12. I have a real love for semi-hollow guitars and basses. I am currently drooling overt the Hagstrom viking: http://www.hagstromguitars.eu/index.php?option=com_zoo&task=item&item_id=101&category_id=25&Itemid=23 My queries are thus: has anyone got one? What's the shorter scale like to play? Can it handle high volume with overdrive without feeding back like a banshee? Thanks for your help, Steve
13. Second the Vox Amplug. Really handy wee device.
14. Excellent, think I might also get one
15. Beatles I love (particularly that album); Mccartney after not so much. Springsteen and McCartney together? Nope.
16. The place we played last night, we had to go in the back fire escape. That was tricky with a 410. Coming out at the end of the gig, we discovered there were no outside lights. Trying to get an 810 down those would have ended really badly.
17. Springsteen? McCartney? Jesus, I'd rather slit me own throat.
18. This: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Value-Guitar-Stand-For-6-String-or-Bass-Folds-Up-Small-/310138457604?pt=UK_Guitar_Accessories&hash=item4835b14e04 Cheap as chips and works a treat.
19. Maybe some judicious EQing is the answer? I'm loathe to buy another pedal right now.
20. I use a big muff (guitar version) and I love the sound but the problem is there seems to be a volume drop. I've fiddled around with the settings for bloody ages and every time I think I have it sussed it goes again. It's got so frustrating I actually stopped using it.
21. That's a beauty. Wish I could afford one.
22. I've been using Cleartone cables for a while now. Neutrik plugs, made to order, Van Damme cable - far better than anything I've used in the past and very well priced. http://www.award-session.com/cleartone_cables.html
23.
Cheating or not the technology is there and it won't go away (hello Cheryl!). I think I did in fact refer to it as a 'cheat box' in my first post to this thread. It does open up an argument though. For many bands the fact that the singer can actually sing is a bit of a bonus. For live work it is only half the story. I don't want to sound demeaning but, since it's one of our own members bands here, I'd say that for a band like Dick Venom that the actual technical quality of the lead singer is maybe less than half the story. It's also clearly about a very strong look and engagement with the audience. Now, consider the scenario of putting a band together and it's down to choosing a front man that sings like an angel but has the stage presence of a wardrobe or someone that's Jagger and Morrissey and Ian Anderson and god knows who else charismatic godsend that makes all the rest of you look less like knuckle draggers BUT he needs just a bit of help keeping in pitch. What to do?
I'd take the singer and work on the look and stage presence. You can't polish a turd.
24. Hearing or writing a new song on guitar, then putting a low groove to it. Hearing it come together with the band. Makes me feel all fuzzy.
25.
I agree.. And if you really need it, it sounds like you're using it.. I use my box for harmonies/effects/doubling etc...
That's fair enough, but this dude's singer is flat. That would be a cheat, imo. Either learn your instrument or quit, anything else is lazy.
