1. Think of Ice Cream for all these songs as well: Every Breath You Take Chain Gang Crocodile Rock Enola Gay Happiness is a Warm Gun Mandy The Man comes Around There is a light that never goes out Twistin the night away Nothings gonna stop us now All I want for xmas is you And thousands more... And you saved yourself loads of time! Usually at a gig the band leader will call a key, then go from there :-)
2. 1 6 4 5 - Stand By Me. That chord progression is often known as the 50's progression or 'Ice Cream Changes'.
3. was hoping this was a thread on Humble Pie. What a band.
4. Nice. Have this at a gig coming up. Although they've changed the key
5. What I find helps is that you practice, every single day. 15mins each day, sight reading a NEW piece of music ideally at a low tempo.
6.
Just learn it.
Some wise words there...
7. Set List Maker - Used this on ships. Has all of our song library on, as well as all of our predefined set lists. As well as grouping the songs into genres e.t.c - Super handy if someone asks for a certain style and you have over 500 songs and one doesn't spring to mind. iRealPro - Great for jazz and transposing charts, saved my ass sooooo many times.
8.
If you've got 1 get another, I've got 2 and a pair sounds more than twice as good
I know. It's persuading the missus lol
9.
That's not actually true. The difference is the dep has to do the same thing in a lot less time. With most of the deps I do I'm familiar with many of the numbers and getting my head around new numbers, new arrangements and old numbers in different keys is a great musical education. Also playing with a new drummer is always a great experience.
This.
10. Man, I'm interested. Have one of these already.....eeeekkkkk
11. You get what they offer you, otherwise someone else will do it. Depping, for me is mainly about networking, do a good job and you'll no doubt get asked back. Last week, phone call Friday night for bass dep at a disco gig the next day £200. 41 song set, lots of new songs to learn, and the ones I did know where all in different keys/structures e.t.c Pain in the arse, but it's all good fun. Keeps you on your toes!
12. Since I've left the cruise game, all I do is dep now. Turn up with Bass an DI & In ears.. All sorted. Most top function bands now have good PA/Monitor set-up. A lot of bands like me just turning up, taking up little floorspace, and not filling the entire stage with bass. SO easy.
13. Niiiiiice. Did not know that. Cheers man.
14.
Unfortunately not. I find my Mono M80 case very uncomfortable to wear on my back for any significant distance, and I know I'm not the only one with that problem. Also while it was the lightest of the new breed of semi-rigid cases when I bought it, it's very bulky compared with a standard £40 padded gig bag.
Ah. I've had my Mono Vertical for a few years now. Been all round the world, on and off planes, ships e.t.c and It's not even got a scratch on it, it's fantastic.
15. Just an idea, I would love to, but at this moment in time I don't have the time! If anyone has a load of sites bookmarked, maybe PM me and I'l create a new post? Would just be nice having a list of sites with transcriptions on. Save me googling each time! Thoughts? Or am I being a lazy git?
16. Happy to dep, but can't commit to a full time position.
17.
Bad ass. Used a couple of your transcriptions on Sat night for a last minute dep. Saved me a lot of time. Thanks dude.
18.
10 years online! I have made a new website for the occasion. Check it out! And of course, I didn't forget to post a new transcription as well Jaco Pastorius - Soul Intro / The Chicken | Bass Transcription | Jaco Pastorius
Bad ass.
19. Anyone selling at Stagg? Interested in dipping into my first DB!
20.
Good to hear they're useful! I use an old version of Sibelius for writing things out, other than that it's spotify > vox headphone amp > cheap headphones. If I'm working on something that's really complicated then I'll use Quicktime 7 or the Tempo Slow iPad app to slow things down and loop sections.
No midi keyboard?
21. Used your transcriptions for a few gigs! They're great. What software and equipment do you use for transcribing?
