1. CME Custom Relic'ing: Add Years of Abuse To Your Brand New Guitar!: http://youtu.be/lcZH6lTx470
2. I would cancel the gig (or get a dep if that's possible) if there's any chance of it screwing you up in the long run. Don't be afraid to say no, especially when it comes down to self preservation. There'll be other gigs. You know the script - Women, children and the rhythm section first! Best of luck With it all.
3. Bravo chaps, voted!
4. Yes great review! Cracking soundclip too.. I was hoping not to like it (and kind of expected to as usually active Jazzes leave me a bit cold - simple P bass lover here so no surprise there) but when the bass kicked in on your track, I actually did a real-world facepalm! Awesome tone there 👌 and only one of the many it's capable of. I've been considering a Sub Ray 5 as a fun second bass to cop a bit of a Chili Peppers kind of vibe but now this!! You picked the best finish too by the way (although you already know this ).
5. Haha! Nice try From. My. Cold. Dead. Hand...
6. What's the set up and nut height like on you bass? You may benefit from a better set up so you're not trying too hard and nickel strings as they are smoother generally. Just throwing that out there so sorry if this doesn't apply to you.
7.
Happy New Bass day. Please to hear it's working for you.
Thank you
8.
I have done exactly the same! Can't wait to try it out at the weekend, and I am even more excited after hearing how pleased you are. I had taken a punt on it as a cheap bass to learn how to do set ups, fret adjustment, circuit re-wiring etc., but it sounds like the need won't be so great; don't know if that is good news or bad really! You seem to be happy with the sound you are getting from the pups - are you running them through anything clever, or do they simply have a good honest noise to them? Congrats on your NBD!
Cheers! No, not plugging into anything fancy, just my Peavey Max 158 practice combo (1x8 speaker, 20 watts) with the eq set flat. The Pups sound good enough, yes a good honest P tone as you say. I won't be changing them which is surprising for me, as usually I'm a compulsive tinkerer who can't leave things be! I hope you feel the same way when you receive yours! Let us know how you get on...
9. I bought a HB shorty P bass for my young sons to have a bash on, and for 50 quid new from Thomann I wasn't expecting much. But, wow! It's ace! It arrived fully intonated with the nut cut just right, pickup height spot on and the action/relief great too. It was instantly playable, All I had to do was tune it. It comes with light gauge steel strings which I thought would be poo but they feel nice actually. Good growl. Having never owned or played a short scale bass before, I got the biggest shock (not literally thankfully! 💥) when I plugged it in. It sounds like, well, a pretty decent P bass to be honest. Not a lightweight or "diet" P bass sound, just a good P bass tone. I'm stumped! My wife likes it too although I didn't quite know what to say when she asked, "why does everyone play those big things if a small one sounds the same? Why make things harder than they need be?" Indeed. (I kept my cool and explained that I need a longer scale bass to get a decent B string .... don't I? 😯) Anything else? Oh, the frets do look cheap but there's no rough edges or buzzes or dead spots anywhere on the fingerboard. The tuners hold their tune admirably . Weighs 6 1/2 lbs. Amazing. 50 quid. I just hope that they aren't made in a notveryfairtrade sweat shop somewhere . It does make you think how they make them this good for next to nothing really. The only downer here was that my boys (5 and 2 1/2) were more interested in playing with the massive bubble wrap packaging!😄 Very impressed all in I must say. Cracking little bass!
10. Stop that! It's silly!: http://youtu.be/Iu7vySQbgXI
11. A G&L L2500 Tribute in TBS. Don't need one but I've never played one of these and I really fancy having a fiddle with one (fnarr) to hear what all the knobs and switches do.
12. Just goes to show that you don't have to hammer the hell out of your strings to get a knarley tone. He's playing with such a light touch but is getting so much more from his bass by not crapping the notes out. Really good lesson right there. This kind of music isn't usually my cup of tea but to be fair, they are pretty awesome here.
13. Try using different strings? Maybe the right choice could bring or even reveal what you're missing.
14. Yup, Squier Vm. Good as gold all day long. I have one, a P five string, and it's my only electric bass now. Love it. This comes after owning many grand-plus basses over the years. I'm happy.
15.
Damn those pesky kids! Any realistic suggestions?????
Yeah, keep it!
16. Beautiful. Very clever, love it!
17. Cranking Tons Of Sobs right now. He was 17 when he recorded this. 17! Gifted doesn't cover it.
18. Too many variables here. The strings on the maple neck jazz sound newer than the rosewood. As someone who has monkeyed around with replacement necks and bodies ad infinitum, I've found that a dense and heavy body v lightweight and resonant body makes much more difference than fingerboard wood.
19.
It should arrive by Tuesday, I had a look at the tracking info and it's in the country. I'll post my thoughts on here when it arrives.
Cheers!
20.
Any one know how to put the Video Inline ?
Yes mate you just have to delete the 's' off https on the link address. Fully embeds the vid that way.
