1. I think they are very behind. I just got a response from "Sarah". it had been about 60 days since I emailed about sending my ProIIe in for service. May be ramping up some office staff to keep up. dunc
 2. Here are some sounds from a gig last fall. This is direct out from my Thunderfunk to soundboard to recorder. Plus a Bassbone in front of that. The playing has it's ups and downs but you'll get the idea. http://www.asiftrio.org/events.html This is with pretty old DR Sunbeams.
 3. My ACG Harlot 5, 0054, is my first 5 string and I have it tuned E-C. Started with the low B but didn't like the B at all. Switched and added a drop-D tuner and I love it. The C can be a little zingy but I usually dial back the treble. I use DR Sunbeams. No lack of low end or thickness. I would like to try a heavier string up top if I can find one. dunc
 4. Bump for ACG. I have a Harlot, #54, fantastic bass. Ridiculous price for a 6er.
 5. My ProIIe finished in 81 has a Rosewood FB. And was fretless originally so rosewood is not that uncommon for fretless. Also pretty common to have side dots where there are when fretlines are included. Beautiful bass. I love it, just can't afford it. Right now planning to send by fretted back to Wal to regain its original fretless state. dunc
 6. My thought when I first saw the pics of this in '06 was that Pete had created his masterpiece to end his run. Absolutely stunning Wal. Beyond my means at the moment. I hope you hear from Mike G. who is a collector of sorts having some classic early Wals. This would fit him quite well I think. btw - price is more than fair. dunc
 7. +1 - Very cool. What's the scale?
 8.
+1 That's still only $650 in total!!
That was in 1984 or 85. A guy came into Rhythm City where the keyboard player in my band worked. He called me and said someone was coming over to sell me a bass and that I would buy it... so I did.
 9.
You could afford a Wal but not a 70's P ?
Saw the P when I was about 16 with no money. The Wal I bought used and it was damaged. Major gouge between two of the knobs. Thus the repair, refinish and had it fretted at the same time. Actually bought the Wal for $150US then paid about $500 for repairs. Still working on better pics. I think lighting is my current problem...
 10.
Mmmmmmm..... two of my fave things..... a Wal..... and in 'white'!
Although the pic doesn't show it, it's trans-white, based on a Precision I saw at a store in the 70's but could never afford.

 12.
Not sure which sort of wood this is...it's not mentionned on the inside. Bought it from Duncan (based around New York) and apparantly this bass seems to have a connection with Howard Jones ? Sounds great though it has only one pick-up and the output is amazing (more than some active basses)
Poplar facings on that one. The history came via Chris F. who had a chance to look it up in Pete's book. It was made for Howard Jones' bass playing brother. No idea if he played with Howard or not. I did not get the bass from a "Jones"... forget who sold it to me. The bass did sound great. Amazing what one pickup near the bridge can put out. The one thing that through me off was nowhere to put my thumb. The missing neck pickup through me off. Also did not think I was going to end up playing fretless at that time. And while where showing appreciation... here's my ProIIe, rear-loaded no less. It's the only one I've seen pictured. If I recall Pete said he made 2 or 3 this way. It was originally a natural finish and fretless. I made the changes back when I got it around 1985. dunc

 14.
I love it when builders (and their customers) take care to bring all the different visual elements of an instrument together, especially the woods. Limba and wenge are a nice match, and I think this is going to be a wonderful, elegant instrument! Mike
Agreed and apologies for going off-thread but what happened to the ACG area under affiliates?
 15.
Well heres a quick snap Alan took, I can't wait to see the pictures taken properly either. I'm so excited that I'm already driving the misses mad lmao. Hopefully organise for it to be with me saturday
Wow, looks great. I had wondered how that one was coming along. Can't wait to see some good pics. Sound clips would be even better.
 16.
I'm not sure about this 'detuned' cab design. It strikes me that it's either going to behave as a ported cab which is tuned rather high, or as an open-baffle cab, neither of which will perform as well as a well designed ported design. Once I have a Double Midget on my hands I'll block the ports and measure it with only one speaker loaded and let you know what's actually happening. Alex
I think you nailed it as a "ported cab tuned rather high". Has "adequate" bass response for low vol. I think it was meant mainly as a guitar cab but is OK for bass. Definitely would not rely on it for a live rig.
 17. fwiw - I made a 1x10 as an experiment of a "de-tuned" cab design I read about. It's essentially a fairly large 2x10 size box with both speaker holes cut out and not ports. It's only loaded with one speaker. The theory is that the bass output starts to roll off fairly high but does so slowly so that you still get usable output. I used it once at a loud practice and it almost kept up. Sounds great for low volume home practice and would easily keep up with acoustic guitars and vocals. Even oversize it's light and still much smaller that a Compact. It has a ToneTubby 10" in it. Seems like there should be a neo Eminence bass speaker that would work well enough.
 18.
I thought they felt lighter than I expected... Better put some side handles on if they're going to be heavier than this. Alex
A suggestion for portability. Years ago I had a great Acoustic 215 cab somewhat similar to this config. Had castors on one side and a handle on the other. Just pack up the amp, throw the cab on it's side (castors) and load it up like a dolly if you want. Good height to hear it well etc... etc...
 19. Place the 2nd one on stage just don't plug it in.
 20.
Looks, you'll be after an Enfield Tone, try something with the ACG Filter pre-amp
IMO - The Wal tone comes mainly from the pickups. The electronics and woods used tailor it. The ACG pre may have some similar characteristics. Lots of good tone out there.
 21.
That is of course, unless you like Wals and then it's a very practical design for a gigging bass.. Having said that, I love the Jazz bass design and have two five string models which I gig with and they're great.
I have a Wal ProIIe, a Jazz, a Rick 4000. They all have their place. Depends on the band and the music. I'd protect the Wal like a mother bear though. dunc
 22.
Hi there, yes - it's really worth it - I paid around 400€ for the refin job which was a real steal. But be sure to check out what's really below the paint (see electronics cavity cover for details) - I know that sometimes the paints only purpose was to hide some faulty piece of wood beneath and sell it anyway ... I was also pondering on putting some clear coating on the body when I saw that beautiful olive wood, but then there was the problem of the old black poly sticking to the pores of the wood - thus Rüdiger and I decided to give it a new translucent colour. I first thought of blue, but the olive wood'd have been to dark to shine brightly. For that you really need some very nice light maple faces. I feel like I have a new bass now Cheers Oliver
Well played! Perfect choice for the refin and you were right to do it. I did the same 20+ years ago but not nearly to the same effect. I was going for trans-white. I really like how deep the red is while still being so translucent. I bet it sounds great too! dunc
 23.
Without an SPL chart claimed sensitivities aren't worth doodly squat. Eden in particular is famous for making claims that stretch the bounds of reality. Ampeg, OTOH, is very honest. Considering that all manufacturers use the same type cabinets and that there are no magic drivers commercial cabs claiming more than 2 or 3dB higher sensitivity than an Ampeg of similar design should be dismissed out of hand.
Aren't tweets an issue too increasing the sensitivity rating?
 24.
I was thinking that as I typed my reply, but that's what I'd read price-wise. In reality it's all idle speculation until the first new ones are finished and paid for...
Based on demand I always wondered why Pete didn't raise prices. That might have helped him out a bit.
