  1. This popped up on my Facebook feed. I think the clever chaps at Ashdown have answered the OP 😎
  2. Took the plunge and ordered one of these. Looking forward to firing it up later today.
  3. The fretted sister of my 1981 purchased fretless (with maple board). Out of all the basses I've owned, the Ibanez is the only one I won't be letting go of (huge sentimental value). These basses have the best necks of any bass I've played, GLWTS.
  4. Our guitarist does this very thing with a Behringer active DI box that sits between his 100W Marshall head and his cab. I feed it with 48V from the desk and get back the 'tone' of his Marshall.
  5. Can you please confirm the colour, and whereabouts in the Netherlands are you?
  6. Anybody here have any experience of the DiCosimo Audio Acoustic 360 preamp pedal? Got serious GAS for one of these but would value some firsthand experience before I pull the trigger.
  7. The neck definitely comes off my 5 string KK Baby Bass. Obviously its a full strings off job, but with the strings off, loosen the one Allen bolt on the back of the body and withdraw the neck from the body. I wished I'd known this when I had mine posted from Wales as Parcelfarce did unspeakable things which resulted in the fingerboard being ripped off the neck and a tuner bent beyond saving 😤
  8. It certainly is. She was back to the Overwater factory last year for a refret and some general TLC. Got to admit I removed the filter preamp earlier this year as I just couldn’t settle on a sound I liked so she’s got a John East Uni Pre in her now.
  9. Careful, before you know it you’ll be a full on Overwater addict 😂
  10. I was lucky enough to try the prototype of this amp and I think I was the one who introduced it on here. Whilst its labelled as 200w, I believe Martin measured the actual value at 280W hence why it sounds so loud. Still on my wish list, one day soon maybe here.
  11. Be careful, as I don't think the pickups are standard Fender sizes (certainly not on the five strings)?
  12. All my acoustic basses (I seem to have accumulated three of them☺️) are strung with nickel flats. I particularly like the La Bella low tension flats as these seem to suit acoustic basses.
  13. Doh, why didn’t I think of that. How do you cope with the smaller radius corners, do you need to use heat to stretch the film?
  14. Yeah I couldn’t find any 5 string versions online when I looked. That clear plate looks great though and it would work on the black bass as the neck pickup is drilled to the controls not routed like on many Fenders these days.
  15. So a few weeks ago I was sitting noodling on my Sire V when I noticed what appeared to be a protective film lifting from the scratch plate next to the bell plate. Thinking I mustn’t have removed this when I bought the bass, I foolishly pulled it and actually removed the top glossy layer of the tortoise shell leaving a dull lifeless brown shell pattern underneath. After searching online for a replacement and trying both Fender USA and Fender Mexico replacements with no success, I bought some BWB scratch plate sheet material and made my own. It’s not perfect, but I think the black looks better than the tort😎

    Advice please

So this turned up this morning. First impressions are very good. Seems to do everything I need 😎

    Advice please

So after much procrastination I’ve pulled the trigger on a Valeton Bass Dapper, largely based on our own Dood’s online review. Looks like it’ll do pretty much everything I need in a small form factor unit with the added benefit of a ‘flyrig’ style preamp.
  18. Bargain!😮 GLWTS

    Advice please

First a confession, I’ve never been much of an effects user. But like many, I’ve been faffing around with recording during lockdown and realise that there is space in my life for a bit of chorus, octave, and maybe even a bit of filter squelch. So my question is am I better collecting a few individual pedals or is there a modern multi-effect pedal that will do this without a tonne of background hiss (my only experience of multi effects was an early Zoom 501)? I’m not thinking Helix expense but open to other ideas.
  20. Hi Andy, I'm a bit of a novice in the double bass field but would a Headway EDB-2 not do everything you want?
  21. For bass in GarageBand I just go straight into my iPad from my iRig HD2, select the Clean DI which is basically a clone of the Avalon U5, click the tone to 3 and away you go.
  22. My first bass too. Wrapped mine in black sticky backed plastic from Woolworths and covered the scratch plate in tin foil. GLWTS I'd buy it for nostalgias sake but the missus would kill me.
  23. I'm not much of a reviewer, but I've had mine for about a year used exclusively as a headphone amp at the weekday 'home' in Holland. However, I brought it home to the UK with me when I retreated to lockdown two weeks ago, and I've been using it as an interface for recording into GarageBand (first time for me). First thing I'd say is this doesn't have the 'baked in' Ashdown sound. I has a good range of tones available from the bass + mids + treble eq's and it handles my five-string basses very well with no clipping on an enthusiastically strummed low B. Plugging your phone or music player in via the 3.5mm jack makes it an effective practice tool for those late night stadium gigs. I've not had chance to check the line out but everything else works as it should and I assume this will too. Recording into GarageBand via the micro-USB output, I'm getting a bit fat tone that growls like a growly thing with a little bit of added mids. The unit is well made, with a metal case and metal jack sockets for the instrument in, line in, line out, and headphone out. Looks like it will survive life on the road for a good few years.
