Yep, I play a 10-string. Despite the forum name I've tended to have an on/off relationship with it over the years with time restraints meaning it take second place to my bass playing. It's always the tone that grabs me though. Although he's changed from Stick to ERB this guy is inspiring me a lot at the moment: 05Ric
Hi Stickman, Rick is a mate of mine, we worked together for 2 years and he left to do his own extended bass stuff, found gavin harrison on myspace and has done a great album called 'drop' check him out. he plays a crimson guitar.

Im about 2 months into playing mine and its great, you can use a standard sb8 as a touch or tap bass but the extended range allows for chord or melody playing, the biggest problem is the 8 strings are in 4th's from the low b all the way across the neck which is very wide for small hands, but 10 and 12 string sticks and reworked 8 string sticks are in interior reciprocal tuning where the bass strings are in the centre going out in 4th's and the melody strings in 5th's going the other way from the centre allowing greater ease, check out rob martino on you tube he plays some great prog and rock classics on his.

@ sixshooter, if its a maple board, I may be interested, as for the history lesson on g&l's, thats spot on noelk27, as far as I know the L5k had a big p bass pup and is fairly scarse, the L5500 was a stop gap 5 built without 5 string MFD pups being available, so emg's were installed, the bass was dropped in favour of the L2500, i think this puts the jigsaw/time line together, there was a L1500 too, gg jaguar is the man to google for g&l history, he's always spot on.

Ive got to be honest, im not sure the going rate, but, I kinda know what I would say yes to and what I would say no to, if you like big neck 5's this is the bass for you, wide at the nut but not fat in profile, the emg's punch thru anything.Sadly im not a warwick fan, maybe im a bit one track minded, rays and g&l's kinda have the same pedigree.

Hi I got an sb8 in july and am gonna try to get down to the bass bash with it later this month, they are an interesting instrument, mine is tuned in 4ths from low b to ...er...b flat, they are a tapping instrument but unlike the 10 and 12 sticks there is room for a bit of finger picking, thes are great and beautiful instruments to play, but to master you need a piano players head as both hands play the instrument.

Just a thought, I was taught to play classical guitar as a kid and translated this to the bass, the classical note fingering and not using my thumb to play with but as support on the back of the neck, But, there are no real rules, sometimes I only use my left hand and not my right, sometimes my thumb slides over if I feel like it,often my right forearm kinda holds the bass body to me and the neck is just there in space with my left hand free to move where ever, however, the bass is hanging off you via a strap so techicnally your not 'holding the neck', this will only slow or labour your playing, it should be effortless and balanced, weather you wear it high a la mark king or real low, its an ergonomic thing for efficency, however I realise image goes a long way for many, but that may be stopping technical advancement. all the best guys...

You cant beat a good 'climax' !

I have the need to p/x my gk rb2000 head, as due to poor timing and being low on work aka skint, I am after a small 1x10 or 1x12 guitar combo, I had a stick come over from the states and its stereo, I can use my gk mb150 for the bass side but need a nice small clean sounding guitar combo for the treble side, I really dont want to part with the rb, its a 500w 2channel or 1k mono head with the foot switch, beautiful condition and works fine and came from a great guy here on basschat, but needs must and as I got it as a backup amp its gonna have to go, please pm me, pics if needed. thanks .nig. Im in essex and I guess your looking around the £200 mark as a guide value, I could sell to get a combo as an afterthought.

Hi all, since being a gabriel and crimson fan since the mists of time ive always loved tony levins stick playing, as im nearing 50 and first had a thought about a stick when I was 17, its gonna be a now or never moment to get an SB 8, bass arranged 4ths B to B flat stick, so, do any guys out there already play/ have mastered one or even a 10 or 12 string grand stick or any touchstyle guitar/ bass and what are the pitfalls, thanks.
