Ive used usps/parcelforce about 15 thimes and no issues, the factoring in of vat and clearance fees need to be remembered, but if you find a good deal in europe, due to the union it gets shipped to your door with no added fees and the euro is about 1.4 to the pound, sure isnt 2 dollars but you dont have to put in the 20% handling and vat figure,,good luck.

Hi Paul, a bass is an instrument made in an engineering fashion, thus it can be played around with, bearing in mind you have at a subconcious level a personal knowledge of how you like it to feel for you to play at your best, with this in mind you can adjust the truss rod, saddle height and intonation. The luthier stuff like fret dressing and filing the nut wont come into play here. I like, as you look down the neck from the nut with one eye closed, a slight lift from the 12th to 10th fret to the nut with the strings in tension, a friend likes a dead flat neck, if it bows back then the higher up you play it will 'fret out'. The saddle height can be adjusted to suit the radius of the fingerboard, there are specific clearances but I do it by playing and raising or lowering accordingly. The guage of strings will change the neck relief, so try to stay with one guage, also the neck changes if the bass is flat on its back or in the playing position as well (honestly). finally intonation is done by checking with a tuner the tuning of an open string then with the 12th fret depressed and adjust if sharp or flat to lengthen or shorten the 12th fret to bridge length to sort out the tuning, also check the harmonic tuning...whatever you do, remember the point you start from, then if you bugger it up you can go back to where you started from. dont be afraid and have a tweak.
At what point do you stop being a hobbyist and start being a semi-pro? Our house insurance is due up in a month or two and this seems very attractive but I gig and get paid for it once or twice a week?
+1 there... however, didnt joining the M.U. give you insurance cover automatically, I was a member for years and public liability too. anyone confirm this. -

Yep...a good show on tuesday, 1st set sound was poor where I was up in the side about half way back, low mix guitar, low bass freq popping my head and splitting my chest, soft vox, but the second half was great, nik...hows the roscoe ? as for the band im a great neil peart fan now, funny how all drummers want to do a bit of jazz ! and by and large even if you dont like 'old stagers' like rush, they will give any bands half their age a cracking run for their money as musicians, performers and writers. My 15 yr old son came and loved them, so they even cross the age divide, no mean feat for a bunch of aging canadian hippies.

Hi Nik, same dilemma here, but not as far, if you do the M25, M11 to A406 north circ to wembley or similar then, as i've got away with in the past, wedge the car up a side street and leg it to the venue, im gonna try and be at the bar for 7 and will call you to see if your about, good luck my friend.
If everyone in the world or on basschat had the same taste the world would be a boring place. So if you dont think the Who were the greatest (in their prime), dont think the Ox was the greatest, its not your fault. You will get over it and learn to live with it. Someone has to be in the minority - thats life. And if kids want to show off their limited ability with a Who tune - you cant knock their taste in music (well I cant anyway).
The goose bumps have just left me, why didnt I like them or see them in the 70's...wheres my tardis.

Yeah, I saw this bass and thought...hmmm its neither fish nor fowl, we used to sell both basses in the mid 80's and im not sure who this would appeal to. as you say we shall watch and see if it makes its money.

How Many Readers Of This Site Actually Go Out And Gig?
nig replied to bass_in_ya_face's topic in General Discussion
I play 2 to 3 times a week, ive been pro, semi pro and...resting,played covers, written origional stuff etc... all over the last 28 years, I dont read, I did, I enjoy myself, express myself and earn money, if you play and enjoy what you do and find somthing thru music that inspires you, thats good enough, theres alot of snobbery in every walk of life, eventually you realise its all bo##ocks. A musician is a person who plays music, whatever style or level. enjoy. -

@bnt...get off your arse and get a gig...lol,
don't listen to anything. be surprised/stunned/ or sadly disappointed, but take it as a opportunity to go in blind and see it for what it is, rather than comparing to this or that record or wishing they would play this or that, as fans invariably do.
Thats a moot point, I do agree with you, however, im not a rush fan, but bought snakes and arrows as im a bit of a 3 piece prog rock sucker... and im glad I now have a reference on the songs for live otherwise I may not have connected with their style or indeed song length ! so without the knowledge of their back catalouge but an understanding of the sound they make, I agree that for me most of the set will be 'blind' and to that end im exicted to see them. Nik...I still have your number im tues 9th N9 ROW V SEAT 97. hope to see ya !

Hi Nik, snakes and arrows, the one the tour is for is a great album, alot of it is on the set list, im going too, tuesday I think, which day are you going, i'll buy you a beer.
