1. Just spotted this thread...woops, too late!
 2. Rickenbacker 4001/3 Anything with 5 or more strings. Anything with exotic woods, multi-laminates, high mass bridges, lots of knobs. Anything with LED's (that will do..............for now!)
 3.
Well, I asked it , but I take your point. I don't think any of us would disagree that music should be paid for, it's just the scenario I mention in my first that's got me questioning my ethics.
I don't think it's staggering at all that this question is being asked. Its human nature, right or wrong to get something for nothing, if you don't have to pay for it. The fact is, which has been pointed out before, you can't get coffee for free sat on your sofa, you can get music free whilst sat on your sofa. Not saying it's right, that's just how it is. From someone who doesnt own digital media devices, i have to pay for my music, unless i steal a CD from HMV. Yes, I'm sure its the same thing, but yawn, yawn, no it isn't is it. Life is life, people will do what they want, and take responsibility for their actions, whatever they may be. I have no issue with people downloading music for free, if the industry is losing so much money because of it, then they should spend some money making it not possible. I think if I wanted a song on a permanent basis, i would happily pay for it. If i wanted it for a day or 2 to learn a song, i almost certainly wouldnt. Youtube would probably serve that purpose though, so the dilemna wouldnt arise.
 4. You know you want it Luke!! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/200874191922?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
 5.
So in which order would you part with your basses
That should be a whole seperate, open thread!!
 6.
Mani and Reni
Ha, weird, didn't see that before i posted! In that case, +1
 7.
so it went for a grand, wonder if the buyer comes on here?
Doubt it, he/she probably go's on moremoneythansensechat instead!
 8.
+1 The seller doesn't say what it is or isn't! Actually I've just realised that he has potentially been very VERY clever; watchers/bidders of his earlier listing may well come back to bid on this and get severely stung as he doesn't indicate what it is other than the briefest description... how can a buyer claim misrepresentation? Very clever.
This. he know's what he's doing. Otherwise he would describe it as best he could.
 9.
The back of the body looks it's made of two pieces glued at a crazy angle. Did Fender ever do this? I've not seen this on any factory made instrument, but I'm not a Fender expert by any means.
I've never seen that either, the shape at the neckplate doesnt like right either, too square. No description, means no guarantee's at all either. Payment by Paypal only too, so no inspect, and then "no sir, not for me thanks", payment already bagged, take it home sonny! Not for me.
 10. Paperwork is from a late 70's instrument? The body could be a year old? The pickguard looks original nitrate, but been drilled for the extra knob. At least the neckplate is original '63, thats gotta be worth £100! Good description and pics though!
 11. very Nice. Can you post a pic of the cert? Definitely a '60?, with 3 knobs, and no earth strip? I know the CS are famed for their lack of attention to detail, but they couldnt get that wrong surely. Cunetto's are some of the best bodies the Fender CS did, and very rare to find a bass from this era, if it has his stamps in, then its a great price too, any pics of that? Good luck, I may even be interested myself. Rick
 12. Welcome bass lady, enjoy. I'm having to heavily resist making some sort of slapper jibe, based on the last two posts, but I'm a nice guy, so I'll refrain, I'm sure somebody far more unkind than me will oblige anyway!! Happy new Year too!
 13.
Finished - been meaning to stick photos up for a while. My other half calls it the tomato soup bass... as you can see why! the red goes well with the vintage white and the chocolatey brown of the fretboard
Looks good Luke, you know it needs the chrome covers though!
 14.
Most of the "sound " will come from your fingers / pick / thumb style of playing . ( grabs a tin hat and runs for the trenches ) never needed much more than a good Precision .
This, along with amp choice/settings.
 15.
This thread proves that if all you care about is bass, you are f***ed as a musician. You need to grow out of that sh*t
I agree that this post has little point, as I've already mentioned, as its totally subjective, and the 8 pages so far confirm this. But regarding your final point, this is basschat, and the thread was specifically asking for comments about bass players, I don't think anyone ever said all they care about is bass???
 16.
I appreciate that it was a re-fin and not entirely original, but $1800 seems pretty light to me ...
Good buy for someone!
 17.
Sorry Rick , I could not resist
I'd only had one drink as well, and I still doubted myself!!! Have a nice evening Chris!
 18.
Happy New Year, Rick! Let us know what your opening hours are from January 2.
You're always welcome Mark!!
 19.
It must be your eyes Rick , they are all 4 string bass guitars Have you had too many new years drinks ? Happy new year to you !
I can't believe you made me go back and check the pic!!! Nice one!!
 20.
@Rick - is it fired up yet? & - have you seen this? http://www.ebay.co.u...031%26rk%3D1%26 Have a great 2013 John
Thanks John. I did see the link, didnt excite me much, didnt look right all new, and the neck with the headstock adjustment spoiled it for me, but a nice cheapish bass for someone. The slab project: Errr, well, err, no, not yet, in my defence, I have been busy, finally sorting out my 'Space for Bass'. I've been organising, decorating and hanging my basses. It's all done now though, so soldering the 'slab' is the next job, I'm itching to get it stoked up too, here's some pics of my progress this xmas holiday; '52, '56, '58, '60, '66 P's. Matched pair of 1st series JV basses, '58 Mandocaster, '59 4x10 Bassman, '52 TV Bassman (Tweed clock ); Ricky 4005, Ricky-a-like-mani-a-like-copy-thingy, Takamine on stand, and '51 CS in tweed rack. There's a couple missing, but I'll find somewhere to put 'em. Happy New Year to all the followers of this thread, and indeed basschat as a whole!! My last post of 2012, gotta get ready for the gatecrashers (Friends that is, not the film!! ) Rick
 21. Nice haul Chris, although my eyes went funny as I went down the pic, started seeing 5 strings for some reason? Happy New Year to you and your family Chris, and be sure to drop in next time you're over at L'il Billing!!
 22. Big difference between 'want' and 'need'. We all only need one bass, but the wanting is a very different story entirely for many of us. I have far more than I need, but there's still 5 or 6 that I want!
 23. I think the £250-£350 quoted prices relate to the very limited leather bound, slip case boxed version, although I may be wrong. Either way, £40 is a steal for some lucky punter, it's a great book.
 24.
O yea , tis a bit, o well will just have to check out the pics a bit more
If you're ever in the area though Gub, let me know, and I'll stick the kettle on!
