how long before rick turns up....
It's a lovely little amp, and good price too, not many good old tweed amps around on these shores either. It's just a little small for me. Now, if it was another Bassman, I'd be all over it!! Not far from where I'm working either. Mmmm.....
Actually, as a point of order, as a 'born-again-Christian' I have a pretty thick skin and, despite, it seems, what some think, I am no more or less offended by bad language etc than anyone else. But when people use 'Jesus!' etc as a swear it cuts me to the core.
Hence the strike-through. Whilst some words don't offend you, they may well offend others, in the same way that Jeez may offend you, but not others. I think the intent is far more important than the words themselves. Anyway, this is getting off-topic. I thought we'd finished on this vain.
Ref the moronmod comment, I've just had Bruce Foxton phone me up in tears, saying he no longer felt welcome on the forum. :-) CB
See, i knew it would all end in tears!!

I've watched BIN's before, because i think the seller has started high, will realise after 3 days he's pitched it high, only to lower the BIN considerably, if you 'aint watchin', but you're interested, then it could go elsewhere. This happens more often than you think, less so, since the 'best offer' option appeared, but its a regular thing. I also watch things that I'm curious about what the current market price is, keeps you up to date.
why has someone tippexed the price onto the fretboard ? they've gone and ruined it now.
I'd be looking for a quality gig bag thrown in for that price! OK, I'm going, no need to throw me out........
*blows Rick a raspberry*
Don't worry bluejay, I've had worse than that today on this thread!!! *blows friendly kiss to bluejay* (No icon found!)
I win - I claim my £5
Be careful, apparently you're not allowed to include basses that could be owned by anyone on here, for fear of offending..................and that is a very offensive bass! (please tell me it's a photoshop job, and it's not real?)
It's in reference to a previous situation where I ballsed up as a mod on here and got called (fairly deservingly) a moron.
Yet you feel the need to permanently display it, even at the risk at offending those with genuine mental illness, or deficiency, despite having such strong opinions on such a subject? OK, enough, we could go on and on, I think you were being massivley over-sensitive and humourless, but my point is made. But let's move on, life's short. It's still an ugly bass............. (D'oh.........promised I'd resist!)
Yep, a direct comment against someones state of mind seems pretty abusive.
I see you making these comments, yet the statement above your avatar, that I've just noticed "Moronmod", surely that could offend someone? According to dictionary; Moron. Psychology . Considered offensive, a person of borderline intelligence in a former and discarded classification of mental retardation, having an intelligence quotient of 50 to 69. Not that I give a sh*te, just an observation.
Yep, a direct comment against someones state of mind seems pretty abusive.
Someone's state of mind?. C'mon don't be [s]dumb[/s] (Sorry, offensive), [s]stupid[/s] (oops, and again), naive (hopefully safe?), can you get some context...oh, and humour. [s]Jeeez[/s] (Abbreviation of something probably offensive in your world, so probably should strike it out!).
Oh, come on Charic, when someone is brave enough orders a guitar that looks like that (and you've go to really want it as I imagine it was a small fortune and took a while to make) they'll be wanting to draw attention to themselves and so also be brave enough to stand up to people's remarks of favour or otherwise. I doubt the owner would be offended, at least I wouldn't be if it was me, and I'm not brave enough to order a guitar like that - even if I could play it.
This. thankyou.
-
Seems pretty abusive to me...
Really?? Perhaps opinion based threads should be banned in that case, which would result in 90% of the forum disappearing. I've just read the entire thread again, and there are far more things people could take offence too. Jeeeeez.
IIRC that particular bass actually belongs to a member here. While it's possible to have a laugh poking fun at what we might consider the less attractive instruments, I think actually singling out a particular individual's bass for abuse is a bit too far...
Ugly is in the eye of the beholder, and completely subjective, most basses listed are also in the most beautiful bass thread, almost every type of bass has been mentioned here, along with many pics, all of which have owners. I don't care if Fenders are mentioned (Which they have), if someone thinks my basses are ugly, then fine by me, thats what this thread is all about. I know what I like, and care little if someone else thinks its ugly. Thats what's good about a forum, it's full of opinion, (especially threads that actually ask for an opinion, like this one) otherwise there is no forum. Lets be honest, anyone buying a bass like that, isn't going to be offended by someone thinking it's ugly are they, and they will be very aware that it's going to attract some comment, from people who love it, or not, it's hardly subtle is it. Also, there was no abuse, as you stated, I just think it's ugly. One man's meat..,,,etc.

Here's another one, with which you should seek immediate psychiatric help, if you like it in any way...
JV88** or JV00** ? I found the other photo of the scratchplate you emailed ages back. It seems to be cut at a shallower angle than curent scratchplates too. ahem, form an orderly queue
It must be JV088**?? I would guess neck date of first week of June '82? Looking at the thread, I think I'm first in the queue if there is one? Joking aside, it's lovely.

Loving this, '78 natural 'Ray, with matched '78 beige tolex 120 (One Twenty) bass combo, and original coily lead. Lovely stuff, how rare are these amps! Great to see a matched set like this, thought it was worth a share! And if you wanna buy it, 3300E http://www.ebay.it/itm/MUSIC-MAN-STINGRAY-VINTAGE-1978-MATCHED-COL-SUO-AMPLIFICATORE-115-B-ONE-TWENTY-/130829070804?_trksid=p4340.m444&_trkparms=algo%3DCRX%26its%3DC%252BS%26itu%3DSI%252BUA%252BLM%252BLA%26otn%3D6%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D4783870432307621594 Someones gonna be very happy with this!
Odd detail in the Fender-logo Jazz compared with the later JV is the scratch plate is 3 ply rather than the 4 ply of the later one. I wonder if Rick's is the same and when it changed over.
Guy, The very first '62 reissues were all 3 ply - Black/white/tort (Large Fender decal), so I believe the 3-ply was only used for the first 9 weeks, before they changed the specs quite considerably. They changed quite quickly though. I've seen an August '82 bass (large Squier decal), and that was a 4 ply, and very poor tort. Fender have never got the tort right on reissues, in fact they still don't, a point that spoils even expensive custom shop reissue jazz's to this day. These first JV's, and the very first Fullertons are not bad at all, but thats it. Some of the latest CS '64 relic's have terrible guards on them...and they still want $4k for them! Do you know the neck date of yours? So, when are you selling yours?, it looks a bit rough, but I'd take it off your hands! Seriously, very, very nice.

Any books written on bass tone?
Rick's Fine '52 replied to SlapbassSteve's topic in General Discussion
A lot of my popular music exams through college and uni so far have been concerned with 'popular music since 1960' as it differentiates from 'classical music since 1900' ...not ideal, I'd have said somewhere between 1945-55 would have been a better start date, or for this at least from '51 when the first P was introduced.
That's fair enough chap, was just curious. Popular music really changed in '54 when "That's Allright" was released, and the first mainstream electric bass, as you say was late '51, so 1960 seemed to be an odd choice, but then if thats what the courses these days start from, then who am I to comment. Good luck with the dissertation anyway, interesting, very broad, and very subjective subject, that you could sum up in 3 or 4 paragraphs, or a 4 volume book series, no doubt yours will be somewhere in between. I wish you well, can I reserve the first copy when you're finished? -
Trying to date and authenticate my Fender Custom Shop P Bass
Rick's Fine '52 replied to RobTheBass's topic in Bass Guitars
Also, may be worth contacting Bootzy, as he has one; http://basschat.co.uk/topic/116578-precisions/page__st__540 He's called it a; Fender P55 P/J Custom Shop, which would be right with the contours, despite it being a top-loader. Is yours also a top-loader, or large ferrules? -
Trying to date and authenticate my Fender Custom Shop P Bass
Rick's Fine '52 replied to RobTheBass's topic in Bass Guitars
That decal on the back of the headstock looks like the later version, not from '94. During '94 they were the embossed versions, not decal's. I'm assuming the certificate that it would have been issued with is long gone, which is a great shame, and will reduce value quite a bit unfortunately. It will have clear dates on the neck heel, and in the neck pocket of the body, which will show properly the exact dates anyway. I must say, it looks like a 2001 to me, as has already been suggested. I have a 2001 CS '51 P, but it's a different model entirely, and limited, with different serial system on the bridge plate. -

Why have you chosen to start at 1960? Any specific reason? -
This deserves to be here - Fokus Pirat (Czech)
Is that a John Merrick signature bass? Sorry, I'll get my coat.
