The Return Of Trigger's Broom
Rick's Fine '52 replied to Happy Jack's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
In fairness to the seller (no connection by the way), he's selling it cheap because of the honestly described 'issues'. There may be many issues, but if it was original, it would be £800, so at £150, I think its reasonable. He's also detailed all the issues and replacement parts. many sellers would try and blag this and in sheer ignorance, claim it be found in a loft, and not know much about it, (when they know damn well what they have), and yours for £500, and probably sell it too. This is a rare amp. -

Lovely condition, and crazy good price. A bit of an acquired taste, antigua, but nevertheless, great value bass. -
1972 P Bass on ebay, does it look kosher? Neck refinish?
Rick's Fine '52 replied to Bassman Rich's topic in Bass Guitars
Neck looks fine to me. I have a '68 Telecaster neck thats much 'cleaner' than this (Pics below). Don't be put off by the fact somethings been looked after. If its been in a case when not played, and not played that often, it should be clean. The one you refer looks fine, and price is about right for a nice example. Here's my '68. -
So, who can name the various bits and bobs.....
Rick's Fine '52 replied to deefer_dog's topic in Bass Guitars
1) The neck seems to be a real Fender neck with the "bullet" truss rod that has had the headstock shaved, but I can't tell anything about the model. It could be anything from a '70's P-neck to one of the more recent MIM, MIJ, or Squier necks that use the same truss rod.
Real Fender neck?, really?? Rosewood board, flat square heel, dots, bullet truss? Not for me. -

Rick's Fine '52 replied to Rick's Fine '52's topic in Bass Guitars
OK, finally decided to go for it, and bought one, picked it up on Tuesday. Not the F-hole version as i started this thread with, but a regular one (if there's such thing as a 'regular' 4005!), here it is; -
Spotted this on the bay...wow! You must be loaded, or at least you were.... Sound clips please!
i don't know about that! I've wanted a proper one of these for 20 odd years, but whenever I've had the money available, a new Fender has always taken preference. I now have all the Fenders I want, and I was offered a chance to get this on a PX with an unwanted bass I had, and the deal/opportunity, and timing was simply too good to miss, its also such a stunning example, also in my colour of choice. It's been a long time coming, and it certainly doesn't dissapoint, and was more than worth the very long wait, I love it. Sound clips?, not sure I have the ability to work out how to do that, but let me see, I have an 11 year old who I'm sure will show me how!!
This is still the case, hopefully its a glitch, and not a permament change??
Do we know when the 'last post' will be visible again on the home page, for each section?
-
Only thing that I can see missing is from the global view (Basschat.co.uk) you can't see what the last post was without going into the section. Edit to correct.
This is still the case, hopefully its a glitch, and not a permament change??

Here's my latest addition to the fold, a departure from the usual Fender, but one of these has been on the list since 1989, so time to treat myself, picked it up today, 100% original, including case, almost mint, sounds amazing;
I'm down at Andy's next Tuesday or Wednesday, for a spot of trading, so, if its still there, I'll try and have a whirl on it, and let y'all know how it plays. I just hope it doesnt draw me in too much. As has been said, it should be on display at MM. Looking forward to seeing it though!
Went to Andy Baxters today, to collect my latest toy, and the 'Ray hasnt arrived yet! Its on commission, and the owner doesnt trust USPS, so is flying it over himself next week. Apparently he's English, and planned on visiting family anyway, so not a trip just to deliver the Ray. Some nice bits in his basement at the moment, lovely '64 Jazz, sold though. Shame, but I have nothing to report on the 000100 Ray folks! -
So, what do we all think about this then: http://www.johnnyshr...products_id=409
He doesnt mention Squier in the words, but does include a massive pic of the headstock, showing what it is, and it is a Squier by Fender, so technically 'by Fender'. Just look at the pics, it shows what you're buying, hardly misleading, IMO. And for £106, I dont think anyones expecting anything else.
-
Looks like there was a long transition period then, like everything else fender-esque. I've seen 'May '66 Basses with reverse Klusons, this is the first '65 I've seen with lollipops though. Good spot.
-
I don't think this is the best example of a misleading ad. It says in the title, two electric guitars, one flying v and a showmaster by fender It is a showmaster by Fender. He doesnt add that its a squier showmaster by Fender, but there's a big clue in the picture that shows the guitar witha squier decal'd headstock. I agree with the post above that makes reference to all the junk seen when searching for 'Fender' on eBay, especially all those customized pickguards with photo's on, sometimes there's thousands of them, you can go through pages and not even see a guitar!!
Really? Or am I being naive?
-
Do the Skodas have "Skoda by VW" on them though? Some Squier stuff has the "Fender" bigger than the "Squier Series".
Indeed, like this. This is a Squier bass, all original. Is it unreasonable to mention Fender in the ad title? I'm always a bit baffled by peoples hang ups on this subject, Its a Fender Squier, a Squier Series Fender, a Squier by Fender, whatever it is, it's still a Fender. I would add though, that they should put all the information in the ad, but I don't think anyone is ever fooled, life's to short to be bothered, but thats just my point of view.
When did Fender introduce those paddle tuners and for how long were they used?
late '66 to mid '68

I personally don't care much for Custom Colour Fenders, especially this colour or black, but having said that, this is a very, very rare example, in fine condition. It also has the rarest neck spec. Is it worth $12k? Yes, a custom colour bass collector would sell body parts for something like this.
