1. A Snark clip-on. An original first edition TU-2. Oh, and my mates harmonica.
 2. Excellent guy to deal with is Mark. Thanks for the purchase.
 3. I saw Jimi Hendrix live 5 times from small gigs like The Crows Nest at Tring through the Marquee up to the Isle of Wight festival. If you had seen him for a whole performance in person you would have realised pretty quickly that he was a very shy, self effacing bloke with a great sense of fun and humour. He enjoyed his music and played as much as he could stretching the boundaries whilst he did so. He used to get pretty pissed off with idiots and bad equipment, though. Just like I do when people who weren't even born at the time he was playing start over analysing his ability, technique, musical knowledge and his character / personality. Rant over.... Yes, I'm a Hendrix fan but I would like to say, just like he did, that he certainly played some crap in his time.
 4. The Blockheads in Colchester in December is booked but there's bound to be another pub gig before then.
 5.
Surely its 'intro/entro" by the bonzo dog doo dah band
You are absolutely correct, my man.
 6. Our very own Bilbo playing bass with Mick Hanson in Felixstowe. A lovely evening of cool jazz. Just what I needed having just escaped from hospital.

 8.
When I get bored with bass. I pick up the guitar , where the scope to " learn more " is probably greater than on bass . I'm always surprised to find the amount of stuff that applies to guitar can cross over to bass in some way or another , especially rhythm guitar technique .
This^ I'm still crap after playing for years in blues / soul / 60s bands. To get the appropriate kick up the bum I pick up a guitar and a slide and go into delta blues mode using D or G tuning. It's totally alien to bass playing but seems to work for me. I'm sill crap but it's lots of fun.
That's a work of art.
Thank you. It is and it sounds amazing too.
 10.
Maybe the nephew spends a huge amount more time playing?
That's what like I thought like. But, no is the answer to that one but he does sit in his bedroom playing and recording whilst I stand up playing most of the time with a band. I did suggest "99, change hands" but he acted ignorant. Nevermind, I'll play on.....
 11.
All except point 4. Not sure I understand this "properly" of which you speak?
A term used by my 21 yo nephew who attended BIMM for a few years studying bass. Apparently I do not hold my fretting hand "properly" and that I would fail Grade 1 because of this. The fact that I have played bass in bands for nearly as long as he has lived, that he suffers from RSI in his left wrist and thumb and he has the highest grade possible leads me to believe I am missing something and I should continue to learn so I can be like him.
 12. Thanks to you all. I tried it last night with the result that the clean volume increased but not massively. There was an increase in low frequencies for the same tone settings through the Barefaced over the B15N cab. The B15N amp still reached "clipping distortion" at the 12 o'clock setting on the volume control, both channels, through the Barefaced. Conclusions. 1) Leave the B15N well alone and use it, as is, for recording and low volume gigs. 2) Use the TB500 or the Elgen100W head with the Barefaced for all other situations. 3) Use the Sansamp VT Bass DI in the circuit to the PA as and when required. 4) Continue to learn to play bass properly. Does all that make sense?
 13. Sorry, not my cup of tea I'm afraid. Technically superb but I wonder if they could have held the groove and feeling behind Geno Washington on a hot night in the 60s.
 14. Bit late I'm afraid but here goes. ELGEN 100W head was all valve and a fantastic clean loud amp - I have one. ELGEN Studio 50 was solid state and came in 2x12 combo form - I also have one of these. ELGEN were manufactured in High Wycombe, Bucks from 1967ish to the mid 1970s. I used the ELGEN prototype 40W valve bass amp 1967 / 68 - best amp I've ever used. I've been looking for it ever since but now I believe that it went back to ELGEN and was broken up for spares. What do you need to know?
 15.
I'm no expert but I think you may perceive more volume as the Retro will be more efficient?
Yup, that's my thinking. The Portaflex experts over in the US say that the output impedance to the EV in the cabinet is 8 ohms but it's OK to run to a 4 ohm cab. but to watch out for an overheating transformer on the amp. The 4 prong to Speakon connection is going to take a bit of working out though.
 16. I've just spent a pleasant hour annoying the neighbours playing my '53P alike through my 1973 Ampeg B15N Portaflex. The tone is superb old school blues / rock'n'roll but the volume is quite low before the EV speaker starts farting out. It occurred to me that I could maybe put the Ampeg B15 head through the Barefaced like I did with my Elgen 100W head. Has anyone tried this trick? Will I get more volume or is it the amp that is the limiting factor? I'll need to make a special lead to try it, the Ampeg has one of those funny 4 prong jobbies, if I'm to isolate the EV speaker / cab. The extension speaker out on the Ampeg is 8ohms so I'll have to find out what the EV connection ohmage is, won't I.

 20.
A possible solution. Guitar amps are more directional than bass amps and unless he has a decent amp stand his amp will be pointing at his knees. This means he will only be hearing the bass from his amp and not the screetchy high notes. He is probably eq'ing so it sounds good where he is standing and he is turning up so he can hear clearly when well off the axis of the speaker. Explain politely you think this may be happening and ask him to lean the amp back at rehearsals so his ears are in line with the speaker axis. If he balances the sound then it should sound better for everyone. Then he needs to get a stand so the speakers are pointing straight at his ears at gigs too. I've used this tactic successfully more than once.
This. Wonderful things are beer crates. Worked for two guitarists I've played with over the years
 21. Appears to be some action at last. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-34615441 Now do something about the booking fee rip off at the same time.
