1. Orbs bought strings from me. Seamless, pleasant deal. Thanks.
2. I'm chuffed to little beanstalks for me and my playing to be called solid. My attitude to the bass I play in the bands I play with is only to become noticeable when I actually stop playing. Finn Dave just beat me to it. Bu88er. For me it would be a compliment.
3. Sorry Dave, I couldn't resist it. Our man's gigging with us in NE Essex and Suffolk that weekend. However, there's a few in the west Bucks area if you look on Facebook. Best of luck and have a good'n.

5. So you wanna be a rock'n'roll star? Oi, where's me tigers head? Got a spare drummer? (Finn Dave of this parish wins IMHO).
6. How does it feel to be a complete unknown? (and the rest of the song)
7. Tell 'em the fee you want to be paid and you'll buy your own drinks.
8. I adjust slightly to compensate for room / stage dynamics and the BASS DRUM sound. (Our drummer doesn't kick his BASS DRUM, he plays it by stamping on a levered pedal which beats the BASS DRUM accordingly, if we're lucky. )
9. Those Satellite Les Pauls couldn't get anywhere the feedback screech of my Hofner Club 40 through a Linear Conchord and homemade 1x10 cab. Psychedelic as a psychedelic thing it was way back in 1962 but I'm afraid it was very light in weight so probably does not qualify.
10.
I've never heard 'Park Drive' and 'snob' in the same sentence before.
How about this then http://canarywharf.com/residential/
11. PM replied and e-mailed the pics again. Thanks.
12.
In actual fact, in Birmingham, it was the silver paper from a packet of Park Drive but I couldn't find a pic with the silver paper.
Snob.
13. Something to do with all that alcohol in the background perhaps.
14.
This is what used to be known as a 13 amp fuse ...
Marlboro? Pah! Boys stuff! - we used to use the silver paper from this: and to get us home when the van blew out a sparkling plug we improvised Helicoil with the silver foil from this;
15. You don't need tab. Just put a scratchy old 45 rpm copy on your record player, play it at 33rpm with the treble down and the bass up, left ear 4" from the speaker and you'll get it. Starts on two of C, third note is E, then C again, then D...... Now you can finish it
16. [s]1 new set Rotosound RS 66LD Swing Bass 45-105 in box - £10 posted within UK.[/s] [s]2 sets Box D'Addario XL Nickel Wound EXL170TPs 45-100 - £20 (or £10/set) posted within UK. [/s]SOLD All proceeds going to my grandsons first bass amp. That's £10/set - the BC system would not allow me to put words in the "price box".
17. As per the title. If you want 'em I'll just charge the postage.
18. Do I Love You (Indeed I Do) - Frank Wilson, Cmaj.
19. On the Bay tomorrow unless someone wants it for £150 collected.
20. Go for it Cameron and keep smiling, it'll get better. I was just winding you up a bit so I could show you that it can be done if you want it. Best of luck, and as I said - keep smiling.
21.
I only got £300 a month as a student (£100 of which went of travel and the rest on whatever I needed) so not much really! As I've said a few times. I'm aware that owning a car and own gear is essential and haven't ever denied it. It's just not been viable. I didn't even have a band up until a year-ish ago so it's not like it was even a thought when I was working before I became a student. We've always been careful so we didn't get into this position (turning down any gig we were unable to do because of it). None of us are in this band because of the hopes of becoming financially sufficient from it. It's just a hobby for us all really.
Cameron, pro rata the same as I had 1967 to 1969 as an indentured apprentice and today good quality gear is about half the equivalent price it was then. Sixth hand Standard 10 station wagon cost me the equivalent of £600 on the road plus insurance. Like MrTCat said, I did anything that was legal to earn money (as well as my apprenticeship) to fund my bass playing hobby. And, yes, it is still a hobby but if I need anything musical today it's got to be funded by my musical hobby.
22.
Yeah I have to say this is a fairly alien concept to me. From the age of about 14 I used to work my arse off doing paper rounds odd jobs etc to fund basic gear. I always thought that if I wanted to play with a band I'd need an amp etc. As I got older I got better work and so could afford better gear.
Me too, not only for gear, but for a car as well knowing at the age of 13 it was the only way to go.
To clarify (as I'm aware I'm coming across as a bit of an arse with this post) - We never expect a backline to be provided, we always ask. I'm aware it's totally amateurish but up until last month we've all been unemployed students so finances to get a car, insurance and equipment has been pretty much non-existent. However as I've said, getting these things sorted is a priority -hence me finally getting my first amp the other week). 2 of the other members are just about to start jobs as well so it hopefully won't be long until this is no longer an issue.
How much dosh did you piddle up the wall as a student? Sorry if this sounds harsh, but it's a tough world out here so I suggest you consider your priorities pdq.
23. Up for sale is my beat up very rare SIMMS-WATTS PA 150 watt Super, 6 channel PA head. Its all there but needs valves - preamps and 4xKT88s - and a service to make sure everything is AOK. All original, AFAIK, except that the original Bulgin socket has been changed to a modern safe "kettle lead" type. It needs a cab clean and tidy up too. However it is heavy being fitted with huge transformers. A great project for someone who knows what they are doing, to resurrect an old early '70s valve amp. Collection preferred as it is incredibly heavy (NE Essex). Pics available.
