1. Yet another middle-man getting paid money that could go to the bands or landlords instead. Just out of interest Jason, which pub is it? I'm not too far from you....
2.
Peters and Lee
Saw them at Wembley 1971. I would have enjoyed them much more if I was English.
3. A tune of rare beauty played impeccably with true feeling ....
4. Walter Trout and Popa Chubby Islington O2 couple of years ago. Too loud widdle fest. My mates bought the tickets. Barstewards. Waste of time, effort and energy. Kept going out for a smoke and recovery. Reckon I saw/heard about 10 minutes total made up of 30 second slices of that sh*te and went home - deaf for days. WOT'S HE SAYIN'?
5. Aha - one finger, one fret? If so - nay, nay, thrice ay - get him playing a groove with the way he is most comfortable with. OFPF completely bu88ered my wrist. Went back to the olden way of any finger'll do and my playing improved and the pain disappeared. Just sayin'....
6. I'm 66 and 1/2 - what the heck does OFPFmean?
7.
I thought it contradicted your point? edit - if this looks a little confrontational it isn't intended that way!
HaHa, mine did a bit too but 4 a day was the point I found that confirmed my point that there's a lot of basses for sale and a lot of money swilling round the system.
8.
Only 4 basses a week still seems low, I'd have thought 4 a DAY!
Exactly - that confirms my point, doesn't it?
9. I've taken a rough average of £700 for estimation purposes.
10. For the last few weeks I've been following the basses for sale forum and have been astounded. I haven't done a full or accurate analysis but do you peeps realise that there is IRO £3000ish worth of basses advertised on there a week? Multiply that up by 52, that means £156,000ish worth of basses a year. Just imagine adding the bass amps, cabs and pedals to that and it gives a humungous total. And that's just second hand gear on BC. And I thought bass players were financially challenged. Just shows that I know even less than nothing and / or there must be a massive number of bass players in the world.
11. Now, THAT is a great idea. Thank you for the suggestion!
12. My cremation song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nrZrBPg3f50 then all off to the pub with my ashes .
13.
I already knew from your belligerent posts that you were bald. I actually meant that if you meet a bald bearded bloke wearing a hat you've probably got a sailor in your hands and should alert the authorities...
Fixed it!
14.
Sir, your only shot, as far as I know, is a '49 Bud Tutmarc-built Serenader Electric String Bass. Aaaaand good luck with that
Hmmm, might have a look at making a replica RI of that.
15. Blimey squared Les! You have cheese toasties and a cup of tea after a gig like wot I do, too? Wahayyy - not many of us left. Have a good'n, mon brave!
16. Blimey Les, you old git, you. I trust you're using their backline and PA so's you won't have to carry gear around as well.
17. Well, that's me out then - 1949 - unless someone knows of one.
18. There's millions more 4 stringers out there and they are in a significant minority to those offered for sale at the moment. ....unless 5 string players form the majority of BC members, of course.
19. I've been following the basses for sale thread for the last week or so as I'm looking for yet another bass. One thing has hit me hard. The majority of basses offered for sale in that time are 5 Stringers. Wot's happnin'? Are 5 Stringers going out of favour?
20.
I may be getting involved with a heavy blues project. Predominantly covers to start. This is not my area of expertise and I was wondering if you had any blues numbers in your set that set the world on fire or if they are any numbers that need to be avoided or any advice in general. Many thanks in advance. Mike
Explain yourself, boy! What is meant by heavy blues? Firstly, I suggest you keep all your numbers to under 4 minutes and keep your guitarist on a very short lead. Your average punter and particularly ladies get pretty pi$$ed off with widdly merchants going on and on (bit like I do when I post on here). The big boys of this so called blues world - SRV, EC, Bonapratta, Gary Bore, Walter Trout and the like - got / get away with it coz they've a name and can / could fill big venues. The rest of us haven't and can't. So be very careful with your choice of set if you intend playing in public and want to make some money. Just saying, having played in blooze bands for far too long.
21. Deduction from a page / comment in Detlef Schmidt's book about Keith Ferguson. This seems to be Tommy Shannon's Jazz Bass bass from when when he (Tommy that is) was playing with Johnny Winters band in New York, mid sixties. Apparently Mr. Shannon still owns the bass and the picture in Detlef's book shows that is now more roadworn than a roadworn thing. Your useless piece of info for the day, kiddies.
22. I'm in, Seen a fair few times in their various guises. Do a few of their numbers on a good night with the right audience. But I like this too...... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=13xx0_Ss1g4
23. Not really, he's talking about holes and gas, ergo dog farts thus dogshit, n'est pas? or...... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q-EUwlV1bSE
