2. (Got the year wrong, it was late 1962 but I was 13yo).
You were just thirteen? I know what you mean...
It's the way you look......
 3.
The Beatles... Frank.
Saw them in Hamburg 1962. but I was only 13.
 4. Corrected it for you.
Lucky you. Mine has been travelling all over England and didn't even leave[s] for [/s]the mainland yet. It's going to take all of next week to arrive, i presume...
5.
He also wrote that the Beatles were "a product shaped according to British Psychological Warfare Division specifications."
Ah yes and the best example being "Strawberry Fields Forever". "Four days later the band reassembled to try a different arrangement. The second version of the song featured McCartney's Mellotron introduction followed by the refrain. They recorded five takes of the basic tracks for this arrangement (two of which were false starts) with the last being chosen as best and subjected to further overdubs. Lennon's final vocal was recorded with the tape running fast so that when played back at normal speed the tonality would be altered, giving his voice a slurred sound. This version was used for the first minute of the released recording. After recording the second version of the song, Lennon wanted to do something different with it, as Martin remembered: "He'd wanted it as a gentle dreaming song, but he said it had come out too raucous. He asked me if I could write him a new line-up with the strings. So I wrote a new score[sup][38][/sup] (with four trumpets and three cellos) and we recorded that, but he didn't like it."[sup][30][/sup] Meanwhile, on 8 and 9 December, another basic track was recorded, using a Mellotron, electric guitar, piano, backwards-recorded cymbals, and the swarmandel (or swordmandel), an Indian version of the zither.[sup][39][/sup][sup][40][/sup] After reviewing the tapes of Martin's version and the original, Lennon told Martin that he liked both versions,[sup][41][/sup] although Martin had to tell Lennon that the orchestral score was at a faster tempo and in a higher key (B major) than the first version (A major).[sup][27][/sup] Lennon said, "You can fix it, George", giving Martin and Emerick the difficult task of joining the two takes together.[sup][42][/sup][sup][43][/sup]With only a pair of editing scissors, two tape machines, and a vari-speed control, Emerick compensated for the differences in key and speed by increasing the speed of the first version and decreasing the speed of the second.[sup][16][/sup] He then spliced the versions together,[sup][41][/sup] starting the orchestral score in the middle of the second chorus.[sup][42][/sup] (Since the first version did not include a chorus after the first verse, he also spliced in the first seven words of the chorus from elsewhere in the first version.) The pitch-shifting in joining the versions gave Lennon's lead vocal a slightly other-worldly "swimming" quality. This was subversive and caused many fits, arguments and tantrums as the "musical" youth of the day crouched over their Dansettes, guitars and basses in hand, trying to work this song out. I know. I was one of them and have never been the same since.
 6. And the French A442. Debussy not the charabanc, Skank.
 7. Gott in Himmel Skank, es tut mir leid. Aber, ich denke das A443 ist zwischen Newnham Bridge und Worcester, nicht war? Close enough for jazz, though.
 8. I wanted to buy a small item from the US and the seller was using the Global Shipping Programme. The shipping and duties I would have been charged were in excess of £100 on an item the size of a matchbox, 250gm in weight packed and a price of £10.99. Duty was not liable on this item. Needless to say I did not go ahead. Beware.
 9. Great stuff Jack. I've just bought a TB500H and am considering this mod. Has anyone tried 12AU7s. My thinking is that they may be a halfway house between the 12AX7 and the 12AT7. Then again I'm probably wrong.
 10. Zemaitis Guitars - 'Art with Strings' Holding one and playing it for a while might start the understanding. Plus the fact that they are rare because once you have one you are very loathe to be without it.
 11. Just had this one as a reply to a Gumtree Ad. I reported it instantly and Gumtree confirmed it was a scam as I suspected. Just letting you peeps know. 12. This one? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9uafFaHEm_0 Might have to sell the Mrs.
 13. I played gigs in The Chalfonts a long, long time ago. A pile of poo they were, too
 14.
OK... to help me decide... Would those of you with maple-board Limelight P's mind posting pics that clearly show the board, preferably in daylight? One of my dilemmas is the old maple / rosewood thing. I think I prefer the look of Limelight's rosewood, but I'm not sure...
Voila, it's the best I could get. Hope it helps.
 15.
The latter is something I'd love to do. I just need to see a few more clear shots of the maple boards. A lot of them I've seen have heavy relic'ing which isn't to my taste...
Daylight is something we're not experiencing on the NE Essex coast at the moment. It's grey and piddlin' down. Hopefully it will be brighter tomorrow and I'll get some pics for you then
 16.
...and as if by magic :-) Holy crap - that's a beaut. Is it firemist? Someone put me out of my misery and tell me what colour combo to get so I can put the order in. PLEASE.
What kept you? That is one beeeeeoooootiful bass!
 17. Now you tell me, the day after I bought a TB500H (although it does have a CE sticker on it). I think I smell BS.
 18.
Calling those of you with 60s Limelight P's..... How are the neck profiles? Are they shallow front-to-back, or do they have a bit of 'chunk' about them?
Sorry about the delay bonnie lad, just got back from ordering a Barefaced Retro Two10 cabinet. Mine has a C shaped neck (Limelight 00139) Width at nut = 1 5/8 inches Width at 12th fret = 2 1/4 inches Depth at 1st fret = 3/4 inch Depth at 12th fret = 7/8 inch. Medium frets, plays and sounds a dream with Roto TruBass Black nylons fitted. Hope that helps but I must say that Mark will probably be able to advise and source exactly what you need.
 19.
I had forgotten that make even existed but you've reminded me that the first band I played with had two 4x12" PA columns.
Filled with Fanes?
 20. For fun, I sometimes use my Elgen 100W Lead amp through an SVT 410HLF and it's wonderful. Alas, the 410 gets traded in tomorrow and I'm lightening the load with a Barefaced. At the appropriate moment I shall try the Elgen through the Barefaced. I wonder what that will sound like?

 22. That's me out of a Stranglers tribute band then. 16 stone, sausage fingers and I can't play with a pick. In the words of the wonderful Peter Green, "I can't help about the shape I'm in I can't sing, I ain't pretty and my legs are thin But don't ask me what I think of you I might not give the answer that you want me to Oh well"
 23.
..................................... I was actually a bass player for 30 years before I realised it ...
Only 30 years?
