  1. Just remembered this from 10 years ago. this is how the bass sounds recorded….and I was playing it on the promo vid also…..
  2. It's totally not a slim jazz style neck, its still pretty chunky and more P than my 2 Jazzes.....
  3. ****UPDATE: withdrawn from sale Final reduction before I withdraw from sale and put away under the bed! Hey guys, this is the second of my basses to go - I'm not gigging regularly and have weighed up for 2 years now which 2 I would let go. With a heavy heart, I'm putting up for sale my beautiful 1974 Fender Jazz Bass in sunburst with RW board, block and bound neck and black scratchplate. It's in beautiful condition, with literally about 2 or 3 'dings' on the body, which you can see in the photos. When I bought it, it hadn't been played in years - my guess is that it had laid under someones bed or something as it hasn't had a hard life at all. I mainly used it for recording and 'bigger' type gigs - not for weddings and pubs etc! I dated the pots off the codes - week 5 of 1974. Red ink on the bottom of the pickups appear to show 1974 and the serial number can obvs be checked also. I've owned it once 2015. The neck pickup wasn't working at all when I got it, so Matt at ://www.houseoftonepickups.com gave it a full set up and rewound the neck pick up back to period correct specs and wax potted - all hand wound. I have the paperwork from Matt somewhere. She sounds absolutely mint and is a decent, comfortable weight!! Test drives welcome with a brew provided in Wrexham. Comes in a modern, used, Fender hard case. I'd rather not post this due to value - at your risk!! Surely something of this vintage needs picking up! Sale only, no trades. 14-10-2024 - added a photo of underside of pots - can see codes 1377405 - week 5 Jan 1974. It all seems to add up to being a late 1973 / early 1974 4 bolt neck Jazz Bass. I'll have to remove strings and scratchplate etc to look underneath pickups etc as I can't seem to find the photos Matt took for me when he rewound the neck pickup. Cheers, BITF.
  4. ****UPDATE - now £750.00 FINAL REDUCTION BEFORE i WITHDRAW FROM SALE Hello guys, I've finally made the call to cull a couple of basses - I'm no longer gigging regularly enough to justify keeping 4 awesome basses, so I've made the tough decision to part with 2. The first for sale here is a Limelight P bass in fiesta red over desert sand, made for me by the excellent Mark at Classic and Cool guitars back in 2016. I had been hankering after a proper Fender CS Pino P bass, but couldn't afford one, so I asked Mark to build me a 'tribute' one which I could gig with. Its a beauty - Fiesta Red with just the right amount of relic work - IMO... If you know Limelights and Mark's work, you'll know how good this bass is - https://classicandcoolguitars.co.uk/limelight-custom-gallery/ Lightweight, Jazz profile neck and all the usual Limelight spec in terms of wiring and pickups etc. I have the original bill of sale and it's in the pics so you can see. For Sale only, no trades. Comes with a generic and used black rectangular hardcase. Will post at your cost and risk! Rather you come and try it out and have a brew! Trials welcome - in Wrexham, N Wales. Thanks
  5. liking the look and sound of a Yamaha BB so going to keep an eye out for a decent used one....... thanks all!!
  6. Will have a look thanks.
  7. any love for the Yammy BB 235?
  8. N Wales - thanks anyway - not the sort of 'look' I 'd go for in a bass TBH sorry.......
  9. Hello all! Looking for a 5er - What's the general view on what the best 5 string bass for the money - circa £500 - new or used. Looking for something that will cover most 'bases' sound wise - would like something that can do typical function band fayre - don't mind passive or active. My usual players are Jazzes, a P and I have an EB MM Stingray 3 band, so very 'Fender' derived! Cheers!!
  10. Are these a 1x15” driver? Does it have a horn / tweeter? Valve pre, SS power?
  11. I'm playing a couple of parties and weddings over the next few weeks and playing such songs like and having done these sorts of gigs for like 20 years, you end up playing what people expect to hear and what 'works'..... ultimately, they're paying the bills, so 'artistic integrity' doesn't really count for much........ Voulez Vous Cry to me Love Train I'm still standing Call me Al Smooth The Night Dance the Night Away Oh what a night One way or another Le Freak I'm a believer Signed sealed delivered Superstition Uptown Funk Dancing on the ceiling SOF etc etc Then a pub gig might feature some of those, but more likely would play stuff we might want to (maybe self indulgently) play stuff from the likes of the below list, but then the pub gig pays bugger all in comparison...... Hendrix Free Cream Creedence Doors Freddie King Beatles Fleetwood Mac The Band Wilco etc etc
  12. what gigs are you looking to play? Weddings / parties etc - I would suggest potentially a different set of songs from those you might hear at a pub gig.... wedding /parties - you typically need to play stuff people might want or expect to hear at such an event, which might not necessarily what you'd want to play and what you might 'get away with' at a pub gig etc........
  13. my 2002 EB MM Stingray 3 band EQ with RW board and in Red - 21st birthday gift off the 'rents...... still got it although it doesn't get used much at all. I don't think its been used live since about 2015 and that was a musical theatre gig...... I used it almost exclusively until around 2009 when I moved over to passive Jazz basses.......
  14. fit. wish I needed it. GLWS
  15. being involved as a bass (tuba) player with a championship section brass and, depping regularly for orchestras and wind bands, they usually / typically (IME) still cover travel expenses. Regardless, good luck with finding someone.
  16. FML. I have no need for this, yet want it. Doh. GLWTS.
  17. Nothing specific...... typically I'd play all across the bass to ensure the EQ is set right for the room and correct volume - typically it'd be bits of scales / arpeggios etc, hit the 'dirty' switch to make sure the OD is set ok and EQ'd ok also etc. That's usually me done except for soundcheck - if we're doing drum / bass soundcheck then we might chuck in some of Donny Hathaway's 'The Ghetto', or maybe 'I'm a mover' by Free, or even 'Canned Heat' by Jamiroquoi - for full band s/check it would likely be something like 'The Weight' by the Band that has all vocals, plus guitars and keys also. I'll warm up backstage.
  18. lovely looker........... not the right time for me, otherwise I'd be v interested
  19. Broke my foot literally leaving the house to go to a gig….. couldn’t get a shoe on as it was so swollen so had a few socks on. didn't carry or set up any gear. took loads of painkillers (zapain and nurofen), still in agony. managed to play the 2.5hrs seated. went to hospital, got X-rays which confirmed foot was broken. Spent the next 5 weeks in plaster up to my knee.
  20. Trusted friend - depending upon the specific circumstances of the gig - maybe. Someone I sort of know - nope..... Someone I've never met - nah.....no chance mate......
  21. a pal of mine is the Alarm's FOH eng on this current tour - I'll ask what the score is re bass and backing tracks..........
  22. I'm the opposite end to Cardiff and It's easier and faster for me to get a train to London (196 ish miles) than it is to the Capital city of Wales (135 miles)! Mid Wales - Newtown?
  23. I remember getting absolutely smashed with them in around 2003/2004 at the Welsh Music awards at he Coal Exchange in Cardiff as we were on the same table - those free Jack Daniels cocktails had a lot to answer for........ woke up at 9am in my hotel room, flat out on my back with a full roast beef baguette, crisps and salad on a plate atop my chest - I'd ordered food from room service, then fallen asleep before I could eat it!!
  24. Brilliant and miss mine, however I have absolutely no need for one right now!! GLWTS.
