1. I've just ordered one of Johnny Shredfreak's 1.5 amp jobs. Previously I was using the 6 connecter one from Effect Power Supplies, but I left it a jam night the other week and it ain't been seen since. Absolutely nothing wrong with the EPS one that I could find, but I thought I'd go for the JS one this time since it has a bit more oomph and I needed to order some patch cables anyway.
 2.
Steady on old chap,i do have a sensitive side you know
lol, if it's any consolation you were funny in Reno 911
 3.
Old enough to remember when metal was metal; and you watched it on Headbangers Ball.
Pretty much just about old enough, to remember when Metallica weren't sh*t.
 4. I love Winnebago Deal, but they sounded so much better when Nick Oliveri stepped in to play bass with them. White Stripes can be okay at times too, at least the stuff I heard years ago was.
 5. Emmylou Harris, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash, Kris Kristofferson, Merle Haggard, Hank Williams, Gram Parsons, The Flying Burrito Brothers, Steve Earle, Supersuckers, David Allan Coe, Lucinda Williams, Gillian Welch, Cowboy Junkies. I'll happily listen to any of the above country artists, but tossers like Garth Brooks, Kenny Rogers and Shania Twain really don't do it for me (the latter not in a musical sense anyway). I gotta admit though, as far as the cheesy mainstream crap goes, I have been found guilty of tapping my foot to the Dixie Chicks on more than one occassion. What annoys me though, is how most people seem to throw them all into one boat. Kind of like saying 60's and 70's Rn'B is the same as the modern tripe, or that Bon Jovi play the same rock as Queens of the Stone Age. Country has gone through a kind of similar ordeal to punk, with all the pop bubblegum sh*te artists taking over the genre, only the rot started a lot earlier.
 6. Aren't most Sabbath songs in C? Something to do with Iommi accidentally slicing off some of his finger tips, so the looser strings made it easier on his fingers. I'm almost positive it's Sabbath, who Kyuss nicked the idea from.
 7.
Redzombie - looks like we have similar taste in fuzz, was gonna get a Colorsound BassFuzz (tonebender) this week, but opted for a Tech21 Bass XXL and a Maxon AF9, heard the redeye clip on their myspace - i think better recordings would do the pedal more justice, but those guys seem to make good stuff at fantastic prices and are open to suggestions too. I have the Green Stache (as mentioned above) and have owned a Messdrive Hybrid+ seems like you want either a tonebender or a muff-type fuzz. as far as i understand it, the Coloursound Bassfuzz gets really synthy at higher settings that the other pedals cant (even the supercollider from the clips i heard) which can be a real plus if you want that chris wolstenholme-type fuzz the supercollider is more tweakable, the Hybrid+ is probably the smallest (and a great pedal, but i didnt think its tone was anything too special), the Green Stache just seems to work with my band really well without needing a blend. just my opinions, i saw you had a long GAS list of fuzz and if you're like me, it means you'll have to buy every one before you'll b sure. oh yeah, dont forget the Wren&cuff Pickle Pie B - its an awesome muff clone
Yeah, I can definitely see it being a long, drawn-out and expensive affair lol. But it'll hopefully be worth it! I was quite interested in the Bass Fuzz at first, but not quite sure I want anything too synthy though (not really a fan of Muse, I'm more into Tool and RATM type fuzz). For starters I'll probably just go with the Bass Big Muff since it's cheap, then see if I can get a silicone version of the Redeye built for me, then onto the Green Stache I expect. Who knows where I'll go from there, I do know I eventually want to find the best possible sounding fuzz for my rig/band though. There's also the Zoom Ultrafuzz I'd like to give a shot. Too many pedals, too little money! Thanks for sharing your fuzz experiences, always good to hear how other people get on with their pedals. Can I ask if your bass is active or passive?
 8.
I've got one, and it does what it says on the tin. They're not the sturdiest bit of kit, plastic rather than metal casing, but they do an adequate job.
I was gonna say pretty much the same thing, except I'm a bit weary of plastic casing and Behringer reliability. Also, I didn't like the fact that there was no stop in the middle of the sliders for flat. I ended up substituting mine for one of these - I couldn't tell the difference between it and the Boss version, except the £30 price difference and the markers are a tad out on mine. At flat, the center of the sliders are just below the center markers.
 9.
Close. It was an EHX PolyChorus. They still sell reissues of it, but it's pricey. Very versatile though.
Nah Kurt didn't pick up a Poly Chorus until In Utero, even then he still kept his Small Clone for some live stuff. He only used the Poly Chorus on Scentless Apprentice, Heart Shaped Box and Radio Friendly Unit Shifter. At least according to this site anyway - http://www.kurtsequipment.com/effectspage.htm I really wanna try to recreate something similar to the RFUS intro on bass. Gotta get me one of those pedalboard hogs one day.
 10. I'm dying to get my own USA CL or VR or if I'm extremely lucky an original. I've not tried a 'nam-built one myself, but most of what I've read on them has put me off buying anything new from Ampeg when I do eventually get mine. I'll be saving the extra for a second-hand original or at least a USA-made one.
 11. We had a similar thread to this over on Talkbass the other week, so I'll just paste what's relevant from my list there. Two 20ft instrument cables. One 10ft instrument cable. 2 speakon leads. Sansamp BDDI (programmable). Spare patch cables. 6 outlet power strip with uber long cord. Plenty of plectrums. Spare set of strings. Paper and marker pen. Scissors. Wire cutters. Phillips screwdriver. Gaffer tape. At least 1 fresh 9V battery, usually more. A Towel, always bring a towel
 12. As much of a fan of this amp as I am, since I bought my Ashdown ABM stack 2 years ago and a preamp pedal to plug into my soundcard for practicing at home, I've just no use for my TNT anymore. I kept it around for a bit as a back up, but at the end of the day, I know enough other bassists who'd be willing to lend me an amp in an emergency, if it ever came to that. So here I am, offering my Peavey TNT 115 combo up for grabs. It puts out 150W on it's own or with a 4 ohm extension cab it'll blast out 200W. Aesthetically, there's a few nicks in the synthetic covering here and there (not sure what it's called). This is especially noticeable on the bottom side as one might expect. Also there's a tear on one side at the bottom to the outer material, it's roughly 3 or 4 inches long. Other than this, the amp works perfectly. I bought this about 3 years back, when I started playing again after a 5 year hiatus from gigging. It's easily been loud enough for anywhere I've played so far. To be honest, I think the 150W rating is a tad conservative. I A/B'd this with my Ashdown ABM head running at 230W into a 210 cab. With the ABM fully cranked, the Peavey was louder at under halfway. Perhaps the Ashdowns are overrated, who knows? All I know is this beast gets damn loud for a 150W combo. I've certainly never needed to turn it up past halfway. Asking price is £100. Postage to mainland United Kingdom was £35 when I checked rates a few weeks back, alternatively you can collect from south London. Sorry for the crappy pics, any questions please ask. Cheers. 13.
Helmet, and their bass player. Can't remember his name!!!
You mean Henry Bogdan? He was with them until '97, I certainly agree with you if so. Nothing too flashy, but exactly what the songs needed, nice powerful driving bass with a great SVT tone on top.
Cliff Williams AC/DC absolutely rock solid, just what that band needs. I have huge respect for his playing.
Another one I have to agree with, and again some nice driving basslines, played through a great sounding vintage SVT or 10 Some others I can think of - Johnny Colt - The Black Crowes. Dusty Hill - ZZ Top. Tom Hamilton - Aerosmith. Mark Sandman - Morphine. Sure he only had 2 strings, but it's still a bass right? PJ Harvey. Guto Pryce - Super Furry Animals. Simon Jones - The Verve. Steve Jones - Sex Pistols guitarist. For his bass playing on 'Nevermind the Bollocks...' (yep he played bass on that too). Klaus Flouride - Dead Kennedys. Easily my favourite punk bassist. Kim Deal - Pixies. Kurt Danielson - TAD. Mike Starr - Alice in Chains. Ben Shepherd - Soundgarden. Dan Maines - Clutch. Chris Kosnik - The Atomic Bitchwax. Adam Yauch (MCA) - Beastie Boys. Andrew Weiss - Rollins Band/Ween. Melvin Gibbs - Rollins Band. Kevin Rutmanis - Cows/Tomahawk/Melvins. Joe Lally - Fugazi. Bob Weston - Shellac. David Sims - The Jesus Lizard/Scratch Acid. Mike Watt - The Minutemen. Eric Avery - Jane's Addiction. Matt Lukin - Mudhoney/Melvins. Morgan Nicholls - Senseless Things/Gorillaz/The Streets (although I don't like Gorillaz and despise The Streets immensely). D'Arcy Wretzky or Billy Corgan - Which ever one actually played on the Smashing Pumpkins records. Yes, I just went through my mp3 collection, I'm that bored. Insomnia es una puta.
 14.
Difficult to get hold of Sanford and Sonny Bluebeard Fuzz pedal Three controls: Volume, Tone & Gain and one blue LED! Pics here - not my one though http://www.atomicmusiconline.com/images/0sacred/IMG_8555.jpg I couldn't begin to describe it as eloquently as the guys over on Harmony Central: http://reviews.harmony-central.com/reviews...beard+Fuzz/10/1 £75 to inc p&p or can collect in Harrow Middx or Windsor Berks for £70
Was reading about these yesterday, funnily enough. Sounds like a pretty awesome pedal. Definitely on my list of fuzzes to try out, once I start expanding my board again. Along with the Supercollider, Redeye, Tonebender Bass Fuzz, Green Stache, Mess Drive Hybrid and Bass Big Muff. I can sense it's gonna be an expensive mission that one. For now, I'm happy with just tube emulation, overdrive, chorus, delay and envelope filter. Doubt that'll last long though.
 15.
thats a old boss flanger isnt it?? i didnt think he used chorus
Yup it's flanger, though he does use chorus in other songs (can't remember off the top of me head, I'll have a quick listen). Boss BF-2 for flanger and a CE-5 for chorus. IMO JC's chorus is a bit more subtle than the sound on 46 & 2. All in all though, the two still sound fairly close to me. Paul D'Amour's chorus on the Opiate EP stands out a bit more I reckon. No idea what he used though, I don't think CE-5's were out then.
 16.
Topic revival. Help me folks, I've got GAS for an Explorer....ack! Phwoar and Phwoar 2
Not bad, but just a little bit too pointy for my liking. That korina model is lovely though. I prefer the more rounded version, less chance of taking someone's eye out http://www2.gibson.com/Products/Electric-G...Firebird-V.aspx I'd have to put some regular-sized buckers in it though.
 17. Hi-hat side here and if there's more than just me on that side, I like to be the closest to the side of the stage. Helps to avoid accidentally digging my headstock into any of the other members of the band.
 18. I found myself listening to the Dead Kennedys almost daily last month, first time I've really given them much attention since my early teens. Jello's later stuff's a different matter (never stopped listening to him really) but still, it was nice to reminisce and play along to Moon Over Marin (which I don't even remember from before). Black Flag, The Misfits, Bad Brains, Minor Threat, The Minutemen also got a good listen to as well as the Ramones (though I never stopped listening to them). I've made a vow to myself, to never again neglect the great Amerikan punk bands from back in the days when it was actually good! IMHO of course Come to think of it Supersuckers and Nashville Pussy who I listen to are a bit punk at times (in the good old way). Fugazi, Dwarves, Mondo Generator and Zeke have got it going on even more so. I guess there are still good elements of American punk, it's just a little harder to find.
 19.
That's just crazy enough to work
Heh, I did consider Slash too, but then decided it'd might get a bit messy.
Otherwise, just slot me into the Kyuss MkII line up; John Garcia - Vox Josh Homme - Guitars Alfredo Hernandez - Drums Me - Bass
I prefer Bjork's drumming just a tad more, but if Mk I meant leaving out songs from ...ATCLT then I'd have to go with Hernandez too. Amazing band!
 20. Just bought a Gator pedalboard from Pete. Excellent comms, quick delivery, pedalboard as described. No probs at all. Cheers mate
 21.
I use one of these, it's cheap and very good.
That's what I use too. No noise, does exactly what it says on the tin!
 22.
The dha IMO is best for adding a low gain valve dirt tone to your bass, and it does it very, very well.
I only had the VT1-Std-Bass, but this definitely fits the description of when I used it with my Thunderbird. Not a bad pedal for passive basses. Didn't do anything for me with my active Spector though, even after much tweaking. Yes it was a later VT1 with the I/P pad, before anyone asks.
 23.
Redzombie watch ebay for those ISP Decimators, they tend to go for faily low prices
Aye, good call, I'll save a search for it. If I can't get a cheapish one second hand, I might just order one from the States and hope customs doesn't sniff it out.
