1. Pixies-This Monkey`s gone to heaven.
2. If you like a bass and it does the job, it doesn`t matter if it says Made in India on it. It`s a working bass. if your mates want to waste cash on a logo to bolster their confidence and make them feel more like a musician, that`s their call. It won`t work though
3. Foldable boxes are great, but often not so strong so just make sure they`ll take the weight. If you are unsure about the boxes, try an X type keyboard stand, that`ll take more than enough weight, packs down to nowt and is height adjustable. If it`s too wide for your box at the height you want, use a guitar case or bit of black ply across the top. MM
4. Just back from meeting Steve to pick up his Rockbag Rackbag! Fantastic bag at a bargain price and he drove 30 miles to a foggy spot on the moors and back to meet me. Excellent bloke, thanks very much. MM
5. Trace the original and mark the screw holes. Then ask Bass Doc to make you a nice new one in the colour of your choice.
6. You really should try the Markbass LMII before you spend. You won`t find a bad word about it on this forum.
7. Anyone would look a complete twat in that hat. I have a few hats and tested the theory. All my German Volksturm/Eagle has landed Broadsword calling Danny boy hats just made me look like someone in a Coldplay tribute band(shudder). The black trilby made me look like a very crap Blues brother and the Grey taffeta trilby I`d sat on on a trip back from Italy so was more Streets of London than London Calling.. A couple of beanie hats just made me look ridiculous in an Edge sort of way. The glasses just added to the sex pest image. So, I`m still unconvinced of the Magic Hat theorem. On a side note, my drummer always wears a hat. Always. I`ve never seen his hair. He has dreads (I think),and everyone I`ve asked who knows him claims not to have seen it either... HMMMM Sort of makes him look like the Alien in um.. Aliens. He distracts us though with his outlandish footwear.Something I find common among drummers. Anyway where was I? oh.
8. I`m using a GT6B in a 4 piece dance/pop covers band (no guitar, just keys kit bass vox) and use it a lot to provide bright chorusy patches for songs with slap bass in, then a few songs use an octaver to lift choruses and add depth to certain parts. On a few songs like Gwen McCraes "All this love that I`m giving" it`s a squidgy tight bass synth sound that I can just about get clean if I use a foam mute under the strings,on Rihannas Umberella I use the synth to emulate that retro Juno 60 sound and adding chorus to that makes it move a little. These are essentially keyboard parts, but me doing them frees up the keys player to add ear candy and pads etc. I don`t use much OD or distortion though I`m working up a patch for Britneys Spears Toxic that needs it for the pre-bridge part. I suppose I don`t need to do this, most punters might not miss any of it if it weren`t there, and if we had a guitarist perhaps he/she might do a lot of this but I think a lot of modern songs depend on the actual sound more than ever (sometimes more than the song itself) and if you don`t take the opportunity to use the familiarity that punters have with that sound then you`re missing a trick. Plus, I like mucking about with stuff, it`s good fun.
9. Headphones!
10. Right. confusion, yes. The threshold light does just indicate the compressor is working and is there to let you adjust it so it doesn`t under or over compress. As with the peak led I would give the bass a good loud note, either a slap or a good plectrum whack, and adjust the threshold till you get a little compression going. This will be indicated by the Threshold led flickering on. Whether you want loads or little is up to you. After all that, I hope it sounds good! >still jealous.
11. Huge fan. met him in Manchester after a gig, he`s a really nice bloke, no pretensions. The Invaders of the heart albums are classic World influenced dub. I thought Rising above Bedlam was amazing, then Take me to God outdid it! Wobble firmly cemented in me the credos that Less is indeed Best when playing bass and it`s still my mantra now. Led me on to artists like Manu Chau.
12. Ok apologies. I`m jealous! As a far as I can tell from the manual there is no "threshold" light. There is a peak led light to warn you your input gain is too high and a limit light to warn you that limiting is in effect to prevent you clipping the output stage. So,I`d say to set the gain up properly you turn up till you get red led then back off a bit till it stops. That`s optimal gain. MM
13. SM58 yes. Beyer stand if you can afford it. Great quality.
14.
Not sure what the thresh light is though ????
rtfm
15. I`m looking to re-cover my three cabs also, but I can`t find anywhere in the UK that sells the proper Ampeg tolex. Allparts pretend to sell it, but don`t actually have any in the Ampeg tolex section. Fliptops in the U.S seems a good place to go. If you find any, could you let us know? ta MM ps there is a youtube vid of a place in america re-covering an 810 ampeg, not too much detail, but enough to give an idea.
16. You wont damage your amp. Your pedal output is just another line level signal. However, a simple passive 2 input mixer might be a more elegant way to go about it.

gone

Little too far North for me too, just what I`m looking for as well.

19. I have a client looking for something like this, I`ve just mailed him. Will let you know. MM
20.
For me the word 'vintage' is purely a measure of age not quality. I'd always assumed over 20yrs made something vintage, but wouldn't argue with 25.
This. Vintage is used to denote age, not quality.
21. I don`t usually comment on "here`s my band" vids because frankly, it can be embarrassing, but you put the lie to that with a tune I`d happily play all day long. Well presented, nicely recorded, you definitely have your sh*t together. As above, grab it while you can. MM
22. That`s why we`ve not been getting the better gigs ffs, no dancing badger. I feel a proper chump now.
23.
Indeed, Captain Bass. I still don't believe there's any such animal as a Great Solo Bass Album though The nearest you'll ever get is instrumental dub.
This is unexpected. I totally agree. I`m of the opinion that you may as well have a Great Solo Snare Drum Album,it`s just as valid and it`ll probably sound as musical. Sorry Capt Bass, just my opinion.
24. Bob Carolgees isn`t dead! He`s got a candle shop in Frodsham!
