Well, Sims has a name for working at the higher end of markets IMO, so when he showed me the samples, I wasn't exactly sure it would work. But the option across the road really wasn't an option at all and the colour was too red, and I needed Sims to make me another clear plate as well, so I had them make both as they needed to be custom made anyway When I saw the end result on the bass..... it couldn't have worked better, so in view of the work they do and the clients they have, I trusted they could see something I couldn't initially. The tort on the white J5 looks so good, that that bass gets more comments than the quilted maple bass which is stunning in itself, IMO.
Any good closeup pics we could see please JTUK? -
I'm just going to check out gear... zero interest in anyone playing, I haven't heard of most of them.
Same here but put off by the £23 advance/£25 on the door to look at stuff in a very noisy environment where touch is more prevalent than sound

So, I recently found this man out in California's website/blog who makes really good looking custom repro tort guards. Just not for Fender basses yet (they are coming through ASAP). Anyway, I dropped him an email and his name is Mark and the company is called Spitfire Vintage Tortoiseshell Pickguards. He is going to join up here to contribute and ask questions from what he told me so have a look, get salivating and get ready to talk to the man!
This is my dream bass. Simple. I really really hope Fender can find it in their hearts to make this as a production model some day.
Like the colour more than I expected!
Mine would be: Body: From something else Neck: From something else Pick Ups: From something else Machine heads: From something else The overall effect? Something more stylish that probably plays, sounds and feels much better..
Mick,

If it bothers you, get onto them. I hear their Customer Service is excellent...
Hartke Attack is more modelled on an amp preamp, not an active bass preamp, if that makes sense!?...
This is a good point - Amp style pre-amp pedal or not. If a cheap amp style pre amp sounds good to you then the Behringer BDI21 is hard to beat for the money: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Behringer-Modeler-Guitar-Effects-Pedal/dp/B000KIPUQG/ref=sr_1_1?s=musical-instruments&ie=UTF8&qid=1393330672&sr=1-1&keywords=behringer+bdi+21
I'd be interested in hearing peoples opinions on the Sadowsky or the Tonehammer pedals when compared to the MXR M80 DI+ which I currently have. Lately, I'm not feeling that the MXR is doing it for me, but I don't know if its based on pure tonal 'fact' or rather simply me having pent up GAS for trading up for something better or newer!! I had been looking at the new MXR Bass Preamp pedal, but reading the reviews and threads so far, it would appear that all I'm going to achieve is more room on the pedalboard...so it does seem rather pointless in going from the M80 to the M81 for little tonal benefit.
Hi Lou, I have the MXR M80 DI+ & a Sadowsky pre amp pedal. As you say the M80 is great sounding and has great features. I use the Sadowsky for my clean sound and the M80 for my dirty sound though but would happily use the M80 for clean too. GAS is a terrible thing
Thanx .how about cheaper preamps.im on tight budget?
Hi jassbass, What's your budget? Then we can make relevant suggestions for you. If you can wait and save for the Sadowsky then I wholeheartedly recommend that. I have one and it's great. They do turn up 2nd hand every now & again on here for good prices and in good condition. All the best, Jon
Happy news. I shall bear this in mind when next shopping for a P90.
Thanks Skank! And the advice I gleaned on the net somewhere about getting the pickup height of P-90s right is no joke. Literally a single mm too low makes the world of difference
I wonder why that is? I find older people seem to be less ageist... unless you're a teenager, of course...
Just bad luck I guess!

So, manufacturing location aside this pickup sounds absolutely fantastic and does what it should so I can only recommend the Kent Armstrong WPU900BP Humbucker size P90 with a back plastic cover. I bought mine from WD Music who are the exclusive dealer and they had the unit in stock and ready to go. Can't be bad! edit:Grammar!
...People here in London seem to be more career orientated due to the extra difficulties associated with having hobbies here.
That and IME I'm struggling to find people my age to join up with (mid-late 30s), they either seem to be Teenagers or late 40's and beyond! That's not a problem to me but is to them I seem to find

Good topic and am keen to hear of some success & horror stories too. I am not currently gigging but want to get 'back in the saddle' ASAP and my life has changed a lot since I was last out there!
Jon sent me some screws for the feet on my SVT pro 2. Lovey guy, just what BC should be all about.
No problem Sean and thanks for the kind words.
Jon is indeed a top bloke and for anyone checking out this thread please be aware that he changed his BC username. So he has an old feedback thread here too: http://basschat.co.u..._1#entry1689669
Clarky, Also thanks for the kind words and that's a bloody good point about my old user name and thanks for adding it and with a link.
