1. Tuner link This might be of interst. Alan
2. GO Pete go. Very tidy collection. Next time you are up bring one along I have played my friends 70's Rick but don't get on with it at all a newer one would be good to try. Cheers Alan
3. Alun I do remember you. The EBS rig opposite me was pretty full on and by the end of the day I was sick of it. I did spend a fair bit of time talking about the pre-amp as it does not work the same way as the standard cut and boost EQ. As there is two filters one for each pickup if the blend is fully on the neck pickup and you are moving the filter for the bridge pickup nothing appears to happen. So I was watching people to make sure they understood that bit as I did not want them going away thinking parts of it did nothing. Ped I didn't see you must have been talking at someone. A shot of the stand with most of the basses. The jazz basses were John East's,we were on the same stand they were there to demo his pre-amps.
4. Youtube vid of Hadrien Feraud playing Dave's bass at bassday.
5.
On reflection it was a bit of a sweeping statement and Bernies pups are probably made by Kent/Aaron same as most of the others. And not everyones electronics are made by East. But as Bernie himself said when he was selling me the idea of having one built - if you get a bass built with Barts its probably gonna sound similar to all the other basses with Barts (or EMG/Basslines/Whatever). If you get a GB its gonna sound like a GB. Some love it - some dont. Most people that have heard mine love it. I think thats what I was trying to say.
His pickups are made by Aaron.
6. I was there with John East and a few of my basses which all but one were brought by my customers. I would like to thank all the guys for turning out with the basses with out you it would have been a pretty poor display. I had a very good day, it was good to put faces to some names, and catch up with people I have met before. Also had a chat with Chris from Overwater Dave from DHA and John Shuker. I didn't really get time to see any of the acts would have loved to see Lawrence Cottle but was talking to various people during his show. I did however get an excellent show from Hadrien Feraud as he dropped by and played AD's 6 string headless for about half an hour. This was brilliant to watch what a player absolutely stunning technique. He came back again and played for another while until we had to ask him for the bass as Dave had to go home. All in all I had a really good day even managed to get out of Manchester without getting lost which I did on the way in. Alan
7. Hard to see a down side especially as the string count goes up.
8.
Alan, I think you are right about Status getting their hardware from ABM. Jon contacted Status about supplying him with some tuners to finish my bass, but Rob was reluctant to part with any. I know Jon is talking to other suppliers, so all is not lost. Glad you like my bass, she sounds great. John
I have been looking about as well but with very little to show for the effort.
9. Hi I have just found out that ABM makers of headless hardware have shut there doors. The owner has died and they are trying to find a buyer for the company without much luck from what I can gather. This will effect the supply of headless units unless ETS up there production. Unfortunately there is also some doubt to wither ETS is still a going concern.. I don't know where John gets his hardware from but I think this will have a knock on effect on the availability of this hardware for sometime. Not sure but I think that Status get ABM to build their single string bridge/tuner units. I could be total wrong on this so please correct me if you know different. Alan p.s. Really like that bass. Love the whole headless idea I have never known why more people don't like them.
10. Hi Looking for a new home Ashdown EVO 500. This combo is in excellent condition never gigged. If you would like more details let me know. Pick up would be preferable as carriage would be expensive. I am looking for £475 ono There is a copy of the manual with all the features in pdf attached.
11. Liking this one a lot Robbie. The switches from Sheldon work really well I have used them a on a couple of basses a really elegant way to get a good variety of sounds with minimal twiddling. Don't you just love carving Wenge Alan
12. I do have a solution to the one dot problem unfortunately it involves custom wooden knobs and is not cheap. At the moment the price has put of anyone from ordering them. Alan
13. I am doing both. Working on various basses in between spraying yours. Alan
14. Hi Steve I can assure it has been my pleasure. Cheers Alan
15. Hi Peter It was a pleasure catching up with you again and I am really pleased you like the bass as that is the whole point of building them. Thanks for taking the time to have a look at the bike and I hope you got to food before you got into more trouble. Thanks again Alan
16. Treeb and bassmonster you are both more than welcome to drop in anytime you want just give me a call (number on the site) to make sure I will be about. Cheers Alan
17. Short list for me. Westone Thunder 1A Chris Eccleshall custom which looked a lot like a Wal and had Wal pre-amp pickups and bridge. It was a 4 string fretless. Overwater progress elite 3 6 string fretless bought it from Laurence to fund his double bass buying. Wal custom 4 string fretless Mk 2 with a Mk 3 neck joint and headstock. Currently don't have a bass sold the Wal and the Overwater to fund the building. Alan
18. It was JP Basses that would not use gold hardware or a lined fretless. They had various other restrictions on what they would build. Alan
19. I was beginning to think the same thing. Alan
20. Very much my type of thing. Like the reverse off set and the minimal bottom horn. However I feel that the top horn is totally out of character with the rest of the design it is a standard Jazz type horn which I think is at odds with the rest of the curves and shapes used. Cheers Alan
21. The neck on AD's bass is further out from the body in order to accommodate the tuner hardware within the body. Normally I would not do this as it would cause problems with the balance by moving the strap button higher than the 12 th fret but with the headless this won't be an issue. Alan
22. I will get it sorted out as soon as the fingerboard arrives. Alan
