I had a very pleasant day and can still hear which is a bonus. Had a good chat with various guys. Very impressed with the David's BFM cab I will look into those graphite necks for you. Had a chat with Ped which was wide ranging and most enjoyable I have been a long time fan of Vigier basses. All in all an excellent day. Alan

North West Mini Bass Bash Sunday 16th March

Peter Might come along to that if I have something worth bringing which at the moment does not look likely but you never know. I would be passing by you on the way there so might be worth just taking the one car. Alan -

Where would this be taking place. Alan -
This is a 8 I/O top quality interface which will record at up to 96 kHz. Firewire interface. 8 24 bit analogue inputs on Neutrik combo jacks switchable for mic, line and +4 fixed. 8 24 bit out puts. 8 ADAT I/O. AES/EBU with sample rate converter. Two sets of main analogue outs. Independent channel phantom power. Cue-mix zero latency monitoring. Excellent sounding versatile interface. Home use only boxed with manuals. I will be throwing in Digital Performer 4.5 along with it again with all the manuals. This is Mac software but the 896 will work with any firewire equipped computer. One knob cap missing other than that in perfect condition. I am looking for £275 plus postage.

Hi A public apology to Mr Bear for a further delay on the delivery of his bass. The new pickup has arrived and is fine but in putting the pickup in I noticed the lacquer has developed a blue tinge on one part of the back. This I suspect has been caused by some trapped solvent in the lacquer. So under the circumstances I can't put the bass out like this as it is not up to standard. I am going to sand the bass back and re-spray it this in turn will delay the bass by another 7/10 days. For this I am extremely sorry to Mr Bear as if I was in his position I would be disappointed having expected the bass this week only to be told that it will be delayed again. Alan

I have been known to build a single cut or two. I now build more single cuts than standard basses. Personally I am a big fan of them and yes, built well they balance very well. Cheers Alan

Alun I do remember you. The EBS rig opposite me was pretty full on and by the end of the day I was sick of it. I did spend a fair bit of time talking about the pre-amp as it does not work the same way as the standard cut and boost EQ. As there is two filters one for each pickup if the blend is fully on the neck pickup and you are moving the filter for the bridge pickup nothing appears to happen. So I was watching people to make sure they understood that bit as I did not want them going away thinking parts of it did nothing. Ped I didn't see you must have been talking at someone. A shot of the stand with most of the basses. The jazz basses were John East's,we were on the same stand they were there to demo his pre-amps.
On reflection it was a bit of a sweeping statement and Bernies pups are probably made by Kent/Aaron same as most of the others. And not everyones electronics are made by East. But as Bernie himself said when he was selling me the idea of having one built - if you get a bass built with Barts its probably gonna sound similar to all the other basses with Barts (or EMG/Basslines/Whatever). If you get a GB its gonna sound like a GB. Some love it - some dont. Most people that have heard mine love it. I think thats what I was trying to say.
His pickups are made by Aaron.

I was there with John East and a few of my basses which all but one were brought by my customers. I would like to thank all the guys for turning out with the basses with out you it would have been a pretty poor display. I had a very good day, it was good to put faces to some names, and catch up with people I have met before. Also had a chat with Chris from Overwater Dave from DHA and John Shuker. I didn't really get time to see any of the acts would have loved to see Lawrence Cottle but was talking to various people during his show. I did however get an excellent show from Hadrien Feraud as he dropped by and played AD's 6 string headless for about half an hour. This was brilliant to watch what a player absolutely stunning technique. He came back again and played for another while until we had to ask him for the bass as Dave had to go home. All in all I had a really good day even managed to get out of Manchester without getting lost which I did on the way in. Alan

Hard to see a down side especially as the string count goes up.
Alan, I think you are right about Status getting their hardware from ABM. Jon contacted Status about supplying him with some tuners to finish my bass, but Rob was reluctant to part with any. I know Jon is talking to other suppliers, so all is not lost. Glad you like my bass, she sounds great. John
I have been looking about as well but with very little to show for the effort.

Hi I have just found out that ABM makers of headless hardware have shut there doors. The owner has died and they are trying to find a buyer for the company without much luck from what I can gather. This will effect the supply of headless units unless ETS up there production. Unfortunately there is also some doubt to wither ETS is still a going concern.. I don't know where John gets his hardware from but I think this will have a knock on effect on the availability of this hardware for sometime. Not sure but I think that Status get ABM to build their single string bridge/tuner units. I could be total wrong on this so please correct me if you know different. Alan p.s. Really like that bass. Love the whole headless idea I have never known why more people don't like them.
