I imagine most of the payments would be cash in hand (which would only look worse if questioned).
When I flew to Peru 5 years ago I flew via New York and had $100 in cash on me in my trouser pocket. When boarding the plane at Birmingham airport a sniffer dog sniffed me out and the customs lady asked if I had any money on me. I said yes I have $100 in US bills in my pocket and she said that ok, that's what he could smell. So based on this it would be worth checking just how you would get the cash back into the country if it's cash in hand.

I would LOVE to make a bass guitar like this!
Saw this while looking at that - albeit randomly - wasn't everything complicated before the microchip?? http://www.thisiscol...mey/?src=footer
That is pretty amazing. -
It may have been a month or two after they were bought out by the German company that now owns them so could have been a blip. I did order from them in the end despite that.

These are lovely. I played one in PMT and it was superb in playability, looks and sound. I still don't know why I don't have one...

Dummy Amp stack. Where to rent in the UK?
Mornats replied to Karl Derrick's topic in General Discussion
Would a non-working stack be suitable? Someone may have a dud one hanging around somewhere. -
Advice needed - Home-Rec of Band without Drum-Kit
Mornats replied to cloudburst's topic in Recording
You could try two headphone splitters to get around the headphone socket problem. Also, have you thought about using the midi drum kit to trigger drum sounds in EZDrummer or BFD2 or something like that? -
Well that went pretty well I thought. I followed Ben's video and remembered my Jedi training. Filed the frets down no problem, got the crowned and polished. I put everything back together (that neck socket on the Squier is a perfect snug fit, I'm well impressed) and set it up. The set up is the bit I hate as I can never get it right. I followed the instructions on Fender's site, knocked the action up a little more, tweaked the truss in very tiny increments (that's the trick - tiny tiny movements) and all done. Plays very nicely and no buzz anywhere. I had a little trouble with the pickup height as the Entwistle JBXN pups are very tall. In fact if I dig in on the E string they'll get caught by the pickup and can touch it. I might look at swapping them out for some more vintage-sounding ones anyway. They're nice, but the neo magnets with them a more hi-fi feel than I like.
Looks good! How easy is it to destroy a neck? Slightly dubious of my own abilities.
I plan to do my jazz tomorrow so I'll let you know
1) Whichever operating system your prefer and are most comfortable using. And importantly, whichever is going to least get in the way of your music-making. I’ve used Macs for years and get frustrated using PCs (no doubt due to my own ignorance), so I stick with Mac through and through. I know where everything is. I know what everything does. I know how to get things working quickly. So I don’t need to go thinking about the OS as part of my workflow. Job done.
This pretty much. I started on a MacBook Pro then moved to Windows. I've used Windows for years and used a Mac at work for 4 and a half years before requesting a Windows laptop. Don't listen to the arguments that Macs are more stable than Windows. That might have been true back in the days of Windows 95/98 but both Mac and PC are fine now (incidentally, I had more problems with OSX crashing and having compatibility problems than Windows 7). My PC doubles up as my gaming PC and photo PC (triples up...) so it's got 16GB of fast gaming RAM, an overclocked and super-cooled i7 CPU, silent case with nice large fans and an SSD. I built my own PC so know how to trouble-shoot which puts me at an advantage for using PCs. Macs are pretty much sealed boxes. If my motherboard fails in my PC I can swap it out and replace it and keep my RAM and CPU. If that happens in a Mac you just talk to someone at Apple who'll tell you in your language that the whole thing is buggered and you should buy a new one. Kidding of course, they'll likely just replace the motherboard if it's under warranty. It really does depend on your comfort level with either tinkering or buying a sealed box you can't adjust. So anyway, pick which ever operating system you're used to and it will be plainer sailing than switching to another. Both systems are as easy to use as each other in my experience but switching from one to the other is not.

I have a KiOgon wiring kit in my Squier modified vintage modified jazz and it's great. Makes a real nice difference to the sounds and swapping pups around is a simple task now.

That looks lovely. How does it play? I had a go on a Sandberg Blackhawk in my local PMT (one like this http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/Sandberg_TM4_Nighthawk.html) and found it a bit average. (This is the trip where I walked out with a Squier jazz having tried it against a USA Fender one. I've played two other Sandbergs that were absolute beauties to play though.
If they're 'there or thereabouts' with a price comparison with Thomann then I'll go for the british based company - I bought my X32 from DV247 in the end,

Aren't DV247 German these days, too?
Yep, that's what I understand. They're German owned now since they went under and closed all their UK shops except their showroom in Essex/Epsom or wherever it is.
Before I was lucky enough to find my Glockenklang here in the BC marketplace I emailed DV247 to see if they could match the thomann price. They responded a week later saying they could, but a week is far too long.. If one hadn't come up for sale here I would have assumed they weren't going to respond and ordered it up from Thomann by then...
I sent them a sales query to ask if their MarkBass combos were the Italian or Indonesian ones and never ever received a reply.

I have the 121P and use it on its own. I played it in Mr Wolf's in Bristol (if you know the venue, smallish it is) with a rock drummer and guitarist (Pinball from here) at decent, but not overly loud rock music volume and I had the input on 3/10 and the output on 3/10 and all you could hear on stage was the bass. It was plenty loud for me.

Also check out Ben's tips page here: http://crimsonguitar...w-guitars-frets Sign up for their newsletter for a 15% discount too. They're really busy at the moment (flat out actually) so it may be worth calling them first to check they can get the order out in time for you.

Earlier this year a few of us on here went down to see Ben Crowe from Crimson Guitars down in Dorset. Ben had offered to give us a class on bass setups. Most of that class was taken up with Ben and his team showing us how to level the frets on our basses. I've just bought some fret levelling tools from them and decided to check the frets on all four of my basses with the fret-level-tester thing (not its real name) that came in the set. Overwater by Tanglewood classic jazz: nice and level, however this was after Ben had trained me to level frets using this very bass. Beforehand it was "the most disappointing bass in terms of the condition of the frets vs. the name on the head". Squier VM Jazz: needs work, 5-8 uneven frets. To be expected at this price range. This is why I bought the tools though. Yamaha TRBX 504: pretty good actually, one or two slightly uneven frets. Not sure if I'd bother as it plays really well. 1995 SGC Nanyo Bass Collection SB320: Perfect. Every fret flat and even. Has low action and plays like a dream. They don't make them like this any more... So I'll be doing the Squier first and will let you know how I get on...
I then use a stereo widening device
Brilliant advice, I'll give it a go if I ever get round to starting a new track. One question... what is said stereo widening device?

Scott's Bass Lessons Facebook Page.

Replying is probably just incredibly time-consuming. Our marketing and PR people at work could hire several people to just read and reply to comments on Facebook. -

I've always had great service in the Bristol PMT store too. Although I had none of that "slap it for 5 mins myself" stuff. They've always handed me a bass, my choice of amp and left me to it. I even tell them that I's simply window shopping and shouldn't really try any basses and they still give me one to play with

Why is this not white?

Absolute Guitars in Backwell (near Bristol) is pretty good. I was chatting to the owner Chris the other week about tools and setups and he said not a single guitar or bass will be hung on his walls without a good setup. On the occasion that he hasn't had a chance to set up a new bass it'll be set up as part of the sale.

Obscure Musical Backwaters - The Great SGC Nanyo Thread

I saw this in the Nanyo Facebook group and liked it very much! I've also just posted up two really old scans on the Nanyo brochure. I may have uploaded them into this thread several pages back too. -
Does anyone have any pictures or photos of another Aspiration Elite they could post so that we could use them as a reference? Especially one with the same wood/colour.
Nope but follow this link to view a high res photo of my old Contemporary jazz that has the exact same bridge: https://www.flickr.com/photos/paulnattress/12225774904/sizes/o/ Hopefully seeing the position/height of that will help you.
