The bands I've been trying out have been largely posers and very clearly amateurs.
Did you had an audition with Oasis? what sources have you been using for looking for bands? maybe an oblique strategy might lead somewhere interesting
The only things that need testing are the things that plug into the mains supply. So, amps, wall warts (thorough visual check), any detachable cables, extension leads. Your instrument and speaker cables do not need testing. However, you should certainly look after your speaker cables as a duff one just might cause the destruction of your amplifier.
thanks - just that i think we might be using someone who is a general PAT tester rather than music equipment specific so didnt want them to be blagging that certain items need testing and adding loads of extra unnecessary items to up the invoice
-
going to slightly hijack this thread from the philosophical debates of the whys and wherefores of PAT testing to the practicalities ive scanned through this thread and the other thread on here from a couple of years back - our band have decided to get this done - i would like some advice please on exactly what types of equipment need to be tested and what doesnt - have searched online and cant find any guidelines regards specific types of equipment my personal guess is that items such as heads and combos and power supply transformers, multibocs and kettle leads all need testing what about low load stuff? would i be correct in guessing that instrument/patch cables dont need testing but maybe speaker cables do because of the load they carry? your input as always is appreciated - hopefully stingraypete and others will be along soon to shed some light ta muchly

dont stand drinks on top of your cab the low end extreme grooviness causes them to slowly vibrate to the edge and fall off all over your pedals

take an electric cattle prod in case you need it for the drummer
simple as this, yup.
yup definitely this - you either like or you dont being a miserable old cynic i would go as far as saying im not even prepared to consider investing the time to learn in some circumstances- personallly i cannot stand just about most things that have the 'metal' or 'rap' label attached to it and personal experience tells me is not worth going there to even check it out 99% of the time so why waste the time - i think of it as musical investment versus time management your mileage may vary etc -

never really got the ramones (although dont dislike them per se) but the 'being there' apsect is a major factor i believe i dont get over excited by srpingsteens latest material but i still recall with my tape recorder memory every single friggin bar in minute detail of the born to run album from when it was originally released in late 70s and the only reason i dont play my vinyl copy is because i dont have a working turntable at the moment although i dont consider myself a major springsteen fan i would still concede that he deserves his kudos just on the strength of that one album alone - may contain traces of nuts etc -

steve-bbb replied to SpaceChick's topic in General Discussion
Thanks, but I have the dots..... I'm finding half the battle is deciding where best to play the notes for speedy movement! Lol!
there is no real left hand speed needed to speak of - as always there is more than one way to skin a cat and the doubled walking line in the verse can be played and varied in a couple of positions - if i get chance this morning i will throw up a quick tab of the position where my playing style find the flow of the pattern smoothest - the walking line during the verse is in 16 and pretty tight and straight but there are occasional points where it is punctuated at the start or end of the phrase with a small syncopated skip - try not to let the skip continue through into the next section of the phrase all the drive in this is totally with the right hand and dont forget the rising octaves in the chorus that the first lower note is a double hit hope this helps -
Looking for a bit of advice regarding a student

steve-bbb replied to Absolute Beginner's topic in General Discussion
but I gather that can be frowned upon by the bass community ?!
just frown right back and pluck or pick away to your heart's content i shouldnt worry about it too much - it will mostly be keyboard warriors who should be practising their scales anyway
