1.
I've owned both Foderas and Alleva Copollos - both are right up there at the peak of bass building as far as I'm concerned. Very, very different design and build ethics but neither can really do what the other can. On a purely monetary front an MG is a good 50% more expensive than an AC (actually an MG Standard is 50% more, a fully fledged custom is more like 100% more). I can see where the money is though, the MG's are stunning instruments, I've been playing a new MGS recently and it's just a fabulous thing
You do seem to have pretty spectacular taste in basses Molan, your sig is usually a who's-who of bass makes i would love to own Jimmy Coppolo has taken some (perhaps) unnecessary flak and flaming on TB, but if I sold 2 basses to buy a bass described as "showing some play wear", parted with $5000 and then received the instrument with the damage pictured, i wouldn't be very happy with the builder, especially if he then implied i had edited or doctored the photos. Fair play to him for giving the OP the full refund though.
2. I've played a couple of his basses, and personally the Fodera MG i played blew them away but thats just me If there is something going on, and he does have a reasonable explanation, you would think he would say something given that his reputation for build quality and customer care seems to be taking something of a hammering thanks to this....
3. Off days?? The idea of a top end builder knowingly shipping a bass in that condition after charging $5000 is absolutely crass
4. Thanks guys, i've dropped him an email, fingers crossed something will be sorted out. I really dont want to have to pay for a whole new circuit if it can in any way be avoided :S
5. Hey guys, Hopefully someone can shed some light. Part of the main circuit board on the U-retro preamp i use has come away, looks like the solder has failed. Ive taped it back in place for the moment, so i can still use my bass till i get back to the UK this weekend but obviously it needs fixing properly. Does anyone know if east offer any kind of warranty (the circuit was installed 13 months ago) or will i have to pay for a whole new circuit? Cheers Ben
6. Good gawd Eude, thats one helluva collection you've now got!! Have to say that 6er of yours is my personal favourite but this one is an absolute beauty! Can you post some soundclips of them all soon??
7. I'm between cruise contracts at the moment, and while there isnt a no drinking policy with the company i work for, there are strict limits on how much you can drink. Certainly this is so you can play to the required standard, but as a member of the ships company, if there is any form of emergency on board, at any time of night or day, you have to be able to respond and help the guests, which you can't do if you're passed out from drink in your cabin.
8. Heard anything from Jon, is the bass done yet??
9. Had a wrong set of patch cables sent as part of a multiple order, was sorted out and got the correct set in the post the next day, big props to Paul for superb customer service. Not going to go anywhere else for my strings and cables
10. Bought Matt's TC Nova Repeater. Smooth transaction, great communication, prompt postage. Pleasure doing business with him
11. slightly belated reply bud, here is the gear porn topic http://basschat.co.uk/topic/183028-warwick-streamer-lx6/page__p__1814386__hl__warwick%20streamer%20lx6__fromsearch__1#entry1814386

13. Another black mark against Rickenbacker and their moronic CEO
14. Not a problem, i'll take a whole set of detailed photos tomorrow as soon as i get in from rehearsal. there are a couple of scratches on the body and one or two on the fingerboard but thats more or less it. Some of the finish on the ramp has worn away (paint plus roundwound strings....) but this would be a really simple case of respraying. Its all cosmetic, it doesnt affect sound/playability in any way
15. Hey Stuart, ive emailed you about the RH 450
16. Hey bud, im based in Yorkshire, but i'm also in the greater manchester area a fair bit if thats any good to you?
17. End of weekend bump, anyone potentially interested?
18. I have a rosewood ramp fitted to my streamer LX6, I had Jon Shuker make the ramp for me and its fixed to the body with double sided tape. If you want a fixed ramp, the main thing to know is how close do you want the surface of the ramp to the strings
19. Good call, i'll get some photos up tonight!
20. Cheers, it sounds great and plays very well. The spacing is ideal if you're looking to have a crack at playing a 6er after playing on 4 strings. BUMP!!
21. I'm playing my warwick pretty much exclusively now, with my P bass filling the other gigs, and i've gotten so used to the tight string spacing on my warwick that this bass isnt getting any playing time, so i'm putting her up for sale. The pickups, preamp and ramp are all aftermarket and cost around £300 to install (all work done by Jon Shuker). Full specs for the bass are as follows... Swamp Ash body - Wenge Accent - Swamp Ash Top (bookmatched) 5 piece Maple/ebony neck Rosewood Fingerboard 34" Scale Length 24 frets Gold Hardware 19mm String Spacing Individual ABM Bridge Units EMG DC45 active pickups EMG BQC 3 band parametric preamp Adjustable Ramp Comes with hard case The bass cost me £600 new, plus £300 worth of upgrades. They don't make this model anymore as i recall. There is some cosmetic damage so Im looking for £500 for the bass. Setup with medium low action and Warwick Black Label Strings. Will ship in Gator hard case at buyers expense, more photos available on request
