  1. That's a good idea, thanks
  2. Hope this is clear enough...
  3. In adjusting intonation on my Ibanez Ergodyne, I've cleverly managed to break off the piezo wire where it joins the underside of the saddle. Does anybody know what to use to reattach the wire? I had a quick go with solder, but that doesn't seem to be the thing. Thanks in advance for any and all advice. Cheers, Sean
  4. I started unlined (just dots) and was all at sea. Changed to lined and VERY slowly improved. After a good while, I found I was spending way too much time visually checking my intonation, not trusting my ears. Unlined a la Portamento ended up being a great compromise. Scott Devine made the point somewhere that if you have good hand position, your intonation will be good also. I've found that to be true.
  5. Another sad little bump...
  6. Come on now, folks, I've bought lots of basses from you all, you have a moral obligation to buy this one from me...
  7. Not much love for the humble Yamaha...
  8. Had to go to the bottom of page 3 to find this. Out you come- back to the top
  9. Price drop to £111! Get it while it's hot...
  10. I think it's been 36hrs...
  11. I bought this from here a couple of months ago as an experiment in piccolo strings. It worked so well, I have bought a 6 string (I missed the normal range of notes, and I'm only allowed 1 fretted bass). Hence this is for sale... It's basically new. I can't find one mark on it. It's light, balances well, has a low action, and is properly intonated. 40mm at the nut Passive VVT PJ pickups It does everything you could reasonably expect it to do, and more. Really good quality instrument. Comes with a new Stagg gigbag, and delivered to your UK doorstep for the princely sum of £112.

  14. ... and are we talking vvt or vbt?
  15. What's the width at the nut? Precision or Jazz type neck?
  16. You're very welcome. I've tried several fretless basses since buying the Portamento, including a wonderful Zon from BD. The Ibanez has beaten them all, in terms of tone, playability, and sheer reasonableness (price)
  17. I treat it like a passive instrument, leave it flat, just cut the treble a bit when on the back pickup. I also took the finish off the back of the neck, and I think I might be convinced it improved the tone. Certainly improved the feel, anyway...
  18. I have the Portamento, and I think it's the bee's knees! Strung with La Bella black nylon tape wounds, the piezo absolutely sings, and those strings sound great with the Bartolini's, too. A hugely versatile instrument. The neck pup sounds just like a Precision, the bridge pup sounds just like a Jazz, and the two together are tone nirvana! Buy one, go on, do.
  19. +1 for the Portamento. I've put LaBella black nylon tapes on mine, and it sounds PHENOMENAL...
