Howdy!

Greetings Ray.
3. You could also look for amps with tube pre-amp and solid state power sections (I could well be biased here because of my love affair with Mesa)..... They sound awesome and still kick ass in the wattage dept! Mesa arent the only make to use this combination....may be worth a look for you to expand your shopping options?
4. Warmoth dont do 'em on thier std shopping list, but they will if you ask them for a quote...... Theres a link at the bottom of the page on Custom bass bodies...... try 'em see what they say.....?

Criz, Unless you already play a guitar or have mates that do and or basses, alot of those recomendations above will sound like degree level Physics..... Unfortnately you haven't given us an idea how much you have to spend (or your going to get your parents to part with ) for your 1st bass so its a little tricky giving you sound advice....... (sdaly it always comes down to how much it costs ) Several points to think about..... (I was typing tihs while you put the above post on!) 1. As mentioned above, unless you have played a borrowed.....ANY bass will feel a bit weird to start, especially if you have small hands. 2. Unless you are very confident and have played already, going into a shop is, i) going to be embarrasing as you cant play yet or, ii) you will be completely at the mercy of the salesperson in the shop----- that could be good----- but in my experiance that may also be very bad. If your going to a shop to look, take a mate or adult that can play preferably. 3. You have to think about what your mates are gonna say when turn up to play with them (You will die if they all fall about laughing when you get it out a case) ..... So choose for your tastes, and with some leaning towards your taste in music..... 4. Along those lines what does the bassist play in your fave band? You can betcha there will be replica copy of that bass somewhere that you can afford. 5. Don't spend all your dosh on the bass, as you will need someting to plug it into (cheap practice amps are not dear, but practicing unplugged can make it hard to get a feel for what your doing, unless its an acoustic) 6. Your money will be better spent on a good 2ndhand bass than a new one... (especilly if its from someone reputable on here ) as you loose about 30-40% of its value as soon as you take a new one home and play it. 7. WHOEVER gives you advice, listen, and then have a think before you decide...... remember its you thats got to play it (if a mate says "wow, there are ace" but you dont like it... think long and hard becasue there is nothing worse than not wanting to prcatice because you dont like the instrument you have to play). 8. You may have already seen your first WOW bass...... Remember you dont have to buy that straight away, you may start to play bass and find you refer guitar...... Yak-splut....! Enjoy looking...... PS you cant go far wrong with a Yamaha or Ibanez.......
6. Darn it...... theres a youngster looking for his 1st bass on here, I was going to recomend yours...... No probs if your gonna keep it, upgrade the pups (I did, with SD 1/4pounders) replace the bridge with something more substantial (and teh tuners if you want to roll teh boat out) You may get an unexpected surprise....... I certainly did!
7. Well done for being prepared to take a risk...... Better still it paid off! Cant wait to see the 'before and after pics!'
8. Neeph, I believe an email to DC Montana in the US might be in order dont you? (include a link with the details, I believe they will be keen to see this!) As you seem to know the basses alot better than me, maybe you'd like to do it..... I believe you may well be right sir!
9.
And a fair comment. I think he just fancied having a bass shaped that way, and is lucky enough to have the skills to do it. I think this is an aesthetic rather than practically led project! And why not!?
And, Very Metal....... Lovely peice of wood BTW!
10. Looks like a Warwick copy that the design team have sat around and said...... "Lets make a Warwick copy, but wobbly up the shape a bit so it doesnt look too Warwicky..." Either that or its a direct copy and they were 'smoking' at the time they did it!
11.
Getting the balance of a bass right would seem to be a fairly basic requirement, and a fairly easy thing to adjust at the design stage, so how come so many companies, even big names like Fender manage to get it wrong? After all, love them or hate them, they've probably made and sold more basses than anyone else. Perhaps Stu Hamm likes neck dive?
Clive, Fenders original (and now copied, ad infinitum) design was conceived in a time when polyester webbing was a thing of dreams , so all the straps would have been made of genuine cow..... and hence they wouldnt have dived so much as the strap would have more friction. You stick all that metal at the end of a long neck (on what was basically a Stratocaster body) and its going to take some big remedial work to stop it..... Fender could, and I'm sure would have changed thier design to move the CoG, if thats what the cutomer wanted, but it would appear that over the years that is not the case. Easy solutions (avoiding adding weights) would involve strap changes or making the straps that you do have, present more friction to your shoulder. The leather Fender strap that I use on my P has a chamois leather lining and it doesnt allow the neck to dive anywhere near as much as if I used a manmade fabric strap, as you've already experienced. (also, wider strap =more friction, so maybe try a wide lined strap if you havent already tried that?). I'd be very surprised if someone hasn't tried remedial treatment on the CoG...... That might not be what you want to hear and may not be a reply to what you asked, but it might be worth you investigating....... ?
12. That folks is STONKING good value..... Rewire it vol/vol/tone and they are excellent..... I really enjoyed mine.....
13. If your going to sell teh Warwick dont do it quickly and make a hoooge loss. Better to keep it so its waiting for you when you get back. Unless dosh shortage is a prob... If I were in your position I'd keep the Warwick (especially if it fits you and you play well together, you WILL regret selling it if it does!) ! (buying) Hang onto your dosh and get a Gibson or Fender (in a HSC for the return journey) while in the US. Enjoy it while your there and sell it when you get back. If you choose wisely you could go part way to funding your trip upon your return!
14. Very clever and well executed design..... Pass on my compliments......
15. I have a BR and use it loads..... I did read on the Boss website somewhere in the specs (I think) that it can only manage 1gig of memory as it cannot process any more space..... It does benefit from a quick 1Gig card tho' And to be honest you can get a lot of stuff on 1 gig if you try.
16. The Beedster opened our eyes to this chap 'the reclaim man' ....... VERY poor descriptive and comms and comes across as a complete arrogant buffoon..... However one of our members has bought from him and had a good deal, another did and felt aggrieved...... Make your own mind up, if you dont like it, avoid it.....
17. It probably represents a word in Canton or similar Eastern dialect..... and may mean something like.... 1. I'm a bass player and I'm hung like a donkey..... 2. I have to play with these clowns all night???? 3. 100% pure cotton 4. Noddles with black bean sauce and waterchestnuts... 5. I've had jiggy- jig with your daughter Oh the list is endelss........
18. Urrrm Barney, I believe we've already covered that above........ Thanks for the corroboration tho'..
19.
Forget Dean and buy a Waterstone Tom Petersson 12-string. I was going to sell mine on a couple of months ago, but it's kind of gotten a new lease of life in the last few weeks. It's a great bass and yards better than those Dean models. Yards I tell you! www.waterstoneguitars.com Cheers P x
Oh dear, I've just had a very embarassing but not entirely unpleasent misshap in my undergarments!!! Do they play as good as they look...? And 32" scale model as well? that just Oooooozes MoJo!!
20. Hey Hammy, who you callin' eclectic?
21. Eddie, I'm not sure I'd use Harley Benton stuff to put a fire out..... let alone but it of the 'bay.........! (I'm sure thats' grossly unfair, but its my opinin and I'm happy with it!)
22.
I thought it was pricey and a one trick pony.
I say, thats a bit harsh.... Dean, it seems are catering pretty much solely to the Metal end of the spectrum. Maybe thats why this seems as your quote. I'm not saying that a (for instance) Frank Belo sig P bass cannot be use for any stylee of music, but its certainly gonna be more at home with one genre as are most Deans. Interesting arrangment tho'
23. Eddie, your a bit left of field with you assumptions on this one it would appear..... Musky has it about right. A genuine ebayer with 100% feedback and nothing in his description is missleading. Keep up the excellent work in looking for the baddies.........
24. Another victory to ebay and common sense!
25.
Face up to it, you'll never burn an instrument like Hendrix.
You could, but imagine what your offspring would look like? How many strings would they have?
