1. Guys and girls. Loving my new P. it's a Fender Classic 50s. Just wondering how the neck of the above Yamahas compare in terms of profile and nut width. Also, how are the P bass tones from the Yammys?
2. Yes, nice place. It's a pub vibe at the front and live music venue vibe at the rear. I'm in Buster www.busterpartyband.co.uk although on the website I'm pictured as the drummer, hitch is used to be.
3. Yay I knew I wasn't alone. WoT you must be radioactive or something. Lol
4. Actually that is not all. I used my Classic series 50s P Bass with flats for the first time in this rig, really nicely suited.
5. Thr mini Cmd 121p is nice, I've owned 2 in my time, but it needs PA support or an extension cab to have a proper weighty sound to it,
6. Just a quick one. Gigged my new rig for the first time just now. Big music pub, big in house PA etc, all going through it, very loud stage and FOH. Genz Benz GBE750 is a big, old style HEAVY amp. Like they used to make them all the time. Neox212t cab, which I is ace, but it is the head I am well chuffed with. Ok, it's not light, by any means. But the thing is, it never broke sweat, and I was proper loud, P bass with flats, big low end, and it never compressed like my LM2 did, and never got breathless like my Streamliner did. It felt like the heavy things inside it were dialing up an endless reservoir of current to give me exactly what I needed. Tube grind, warmth, bite, and a huge low end. I strongly recommend this amp. It is the finest I have owned, and I've owned a few from Ashdown, EBS, Markbass, GK (although my MB200 continues to impress in its own way) etc. That is all .
7. I must just pipe up again here. I've just gigged a rig I got from Mark a couple of weeks back, for the first time. Genz GBE750, and Genz NEO 212. I bought it without audition over the phone, although it was not completely blind as I know what the shuttle and streamliners sound like, and have head the cab before. So, I was not totally in the dark. Anyway, point it, is was set on the cab as the price was great, ex demo or something. But head wise I was torn between the shuttlemax, and the GBE750. I told Mark I wanted something as close to an Aguilar Db750 or something similar, with big notes that bloom and have a physical weight. He steered me in the direction of the heavy, old school GBE750, over the course of a 30 min conversation on what might have been one of his first days back after his holiday. And his advice was spot on. It sounded ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT. Without doubt the finest rig I have ever had. Pissed all over my old Streamliner me Markbass gear. Different gravy. Thanks Mark.
8. Sat 31/8 local public gig new nice live music venue. Come and see my new P
9. Good cabs these. Out of necessity I did a few gigs using only one of these, and a Gk Mb 200 head. Really nice sound, full, detailed etc. Bump.
10. He asked me to book an appointment, job done
11. We live is a goldfish bowl in these days of,the Internet, trip advisor, google reviews, forums. God help anyone who has an "off" day! Threads like this can be hugely damaging to a small business. No one is perfect all the time, and let us not forget that the written word (emails) carry no emotion and are thus open to misinterpretation. Equally, phone conversations do not carry the non verbal element of the discourse, which is also thus open to misinterpretation. I'm not saying that those on here with negative experiences are wrong in how they feel they were treated, but I do think that is it a sometimes thankless task running such an establishment, since you are constantly on show and vulnerable to potentially reputation harming world wide negative publicity. I have no affiliation with Mark or his shop, and the fact that I have had great experiences have no bearing on my words in this thread.
12. The button is labelled pre shape or something
13.
Reasons: Lighter, more versatile, and seeing as Markbass tone is clean, it can be warmed up very easily with a pedal. Whereas it`s difficult to un-warm an amps inherent tone.
Fair point too
14. Ashdown is often stated to be wooly and boomy. I think it is down to the set up. Without telling you how to suck eggs... Make sure everything is set flat, incident disengaging the filter button at the front of the signal chain so it is in the "flat"setting. Otherwise you get a horrid mushed sound with no mids at all, unusable. Set all the sliders in the middle and the EQ knobs straight up. And then go from there, maybe boosting the mids a bit to taste, and adding some distortion if you need to get that old school Jamerson warm fat tubey tone. You should be able to make it sound good. I my experience the only tone I could not get was a hifi sizzling sound, but you don't want that I suspect? Great rock and blues and Motown and old style funk sounds are the in abundance though.
15. I reckon the Markbass basic sound might not,be warm enough for you, given what you list. I'm to saying that they cannot be made to sound that way, but I've owned a few markbass rigs and I'm not sure that out of the box they are right for you. To be honest, I'd not rule out the Ashdown ABM stuff. My hunch is that you might find that old school thump and warmth more easily with end of their combos or heads. My experience anyway. Orange terror bass is warm too.
16. Ooooooo. Drum roll please. Eagerly awaits report
17. You see, for me it's the "rest" part that I can't do. Teaching and playing is my job....
18.
38 is pretty narrow. Is it just the neck width you need or should you be looking at other things, such as weight?
Just the neck, Also what basses have a slightly reduced scale length?
19. I check whenever I'm gigging, and usually it needs a tweak. It's not you. But compared to guitars, they are stable.
