Not too good then ?.

Anyone tried one on bass ?. I've been looking at the V-bass, but I don't want all the modelling sounds. What I do fancy though is the synth pad sounds and piano and such like, they'd be great with my new looper, and would be useable in my one more experimental jazz trio. How well do they work with bass ?

ACG Filter based pre-amps - the difference!
I thought the J-Retro Deluxe was the way to go, and having waited ages to get one, I now find out about the ACG. Now I'm confused! You've had 'em both, which way should I go? Have to say that the blurb for the ACG makes it sound fairly confusing to use, is it easy to dial up a great sound, and more importantly, is it easy to dial up a bad sound? I would be looking to get the 4 knob Jazz plate ACG to fit to a Warmoth Jazz with Nordstrand NJ4SE's.
It's really easy to get a good sound from them, I have one sound that I really like and find very useful and use 98% of the time, I just use the controls to 'tweak' that sound to suit. There is a whole array of useful sounds available, both sets of controls have marks on them making it easy to keep track of how they're set, I just look at them as hands on a clock, my bass control is set at 20 to 4'ish, and the treble control is set to max for the filter and flat for the gain knob. -
ACG Filter based pre-amps - the difference!
What pickups are in your Sei 6? I am fitting an ACG pre in my Sei 6 and was considering changing the pickups too
Sorry for not replying sooner, I don't get much time to come on here nowadays. I have Bartolini P4 pickups fitted to it. -
Thank you for that answer! However, I think that most of those objections are only applicable to BAD tabs that you can find all over the Internet. The tabs I use (I use tabs as well as staff notation) certainly indicate rhythm and dynamics, for a start. As far as I'm aware, articulation is indicated by little symbols above/below the note, which is surely just as easy to write on tabs as it is on notation. As I see it, the problem is that there are lots of dreadful tabs out there giving the good ones a bad name. If tabs are used to their full potential, they can combine everything that is useful about notation with the added benefit of being specifically intended for our instrument. In contrast, I've never seen notation that tells me which fret to play on which string.
I was reading while playing a gig tonight, the score told me which fret to play on which string, if the notation said to play a low G, then I played it 8th fret on my B string. I wouldn't have been able to play 4 of the songs we did, I'd never played them before so I played them from a score, tab would have been useless 'cos it doesn't show the rythyms/timing of the notes.

What's 8" x 9" x 2" weighs just over 2lbs, and theows out 300 watts at 4 ohms ?. See above for the answer. I got one on Friday and I'm so pleased with it. I did a gig this afternoon just using one Bergantino EX112ER cab, I didn't need to turn it up more than 6. Admittedly we're not a loud band, but there was guitar, drums, keys and a three piece horn section. I used it with the EQ set flat, it sounded excellent, totally clean which is why I didn't need to turn it up too loud, it just cut through perfectly. I made one trip from the car to the venue, I got a little gigbag with the amp for travelling with it, which was cool. I've been using it at home to power my G-force, I love reverb and chorusy sounds. The G-force is plugged into the effects return, my bass plugged into the G-force. Like this it sounds unreal, not unlike the Bergantino IP cab that I used to have, but better much better. It's very clean sounding so not to everyones taste, but that's how I like my sound, I like my bass to sound like my bass.

I'm putting together two rigs, a small one based around a mini head possibly a Genz Benz Suttle, and a larger one based around my TC Electronic G-force, both using my really nice sounding Bergantino EX112ER cabs. A problem I've found in the past when using power amps is excessive fan noise, what are these like ?. Will they drive me mad when I'm practising at home, and for quiet gigs with a trio. Thanks.

I got this from OBBM in trade for my UL902 on Wednesday. Apart from a few scratches on the top and bottom where its been racked, It's in good condition. It sounds fabulous. It's a bit of a waste how I'm using it though, I have my G-force plugged into the effects return, so I'm only using the poweramp section. I'd like £650 for it.

It may be that you're just not a 'jazz bass person', I know I'm not. I've played a few and owned one that I've just sold, I just don't like them.

Who actually feels 100% happy with what they've got?...

http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.p...281&page=10 I guess it may have limited support by the more conservative members on here, I guess that ARGH will like it, but I love some of the extreme ERB's on this thread. I definitely want a 7 string.

Low B is my lowest. I want a 7 string though, and that may be tuned to an F#.

A really nice guy to deal with, and patient too...kept him waiting at the services 'cos I didn't get ready in time and was lounging about listening to music and drinking coffee, anyway.......................... His G-force was exactly as he descibed it, and exactly what I wanted. Cheers !.

Walk on the wild side - how to play with only one bass?
6stringbassist replied to jmstone's topic in General Discussion
I used to play it a major 10 interval sliding up and down, that sounded pretty cool to everyone. -
