1. Awaken is my all time favourite piece of music - I'm having it played through a 15Kw Turbosound pa when I'm cremated!!! Saw Yes play it live at Wembley as part of the `Union' tour - it brought me to tears - most moving and very spiritual. Agree with the 90125 aspect - that album was very groundbreaking (some great tunes!) and without it, Yes may not have been able to carry on as it provided a major fiscal boost to the collective coffers!! Big Generator is awesome - `I'm Running' and `Shoot High, Aim Low' being particular faves! The Talk album is another often overlooked albums!
2. Allo! To me, Squire is the quintessential `rock' bassist - he is a big influence on scores of bassists, myself included! He is a true showman and his bass work is the glue that has held Yes together - not only that, his harmony vocals and use of bass pedals must be heartily (of the sunrise!) applauded! If someone compared my playing to his, I'd be very pleased!
3. Very sad news - did not know him but again, the `family' aspect of this forum comes together in wishing all his family and loved ones deepest condolences...x
4.
I love that #213 mate... it is 1986 though I think. Show us some more pics!! You are right Kev, that is in amazing condition for its age! Mine looks like it has been dragged through a hedge backwards - and so does #213 above! Gotta love 'em though!
My blue one must win the prize for the most beat up of all the Vigiers! But she's still my number one!
5.
I guess this could be a separate section underneath "Items Wanted". Might keep it more manageable.
To add to this, hows about a number of sub-forums under Items Wanted; ie. Bass Guitars, Combos, Amp Heads, Cabinets, Effects etc - the lists would then be easy to navigate and `Spotted' posts can be applied to individual threads. Does this sound like an idea? Nick
6. ..its all in the wrist guys! Hehe!
7.
GET OFF MY LAND!!! ^_^
whaddya mean?! I'm nowhere near Brum!!! heheh!
8. ...the collection went down by two at the weekend but thankfully, my Fernandes `Alembic' (with JayDee pickups!)arrived today, so back up to 56 basses!!! There may be a couple more purchases later this month!!
9. Nearly bought one the other week on a whim - lovely little basses - superb almost `rickenesque' tones!
10. Dave and I have just done a deal on my Vigier Passion - he's a top lad!!! Nice one Dave! Nick
11.
its not the body finish id choose, but i bet that neck is superb, as iv said, i think a 5 string vigier is the only bass that would tempt me away from my statusray, nice one mate
Well, each to their own Kev. I'm sure if you ever decide to buy a late 80's Vigier, complete with 100% carbon neck that you will find one in exactly the right woods/finish eh?
12. This bass is as new - buy it!!!! As Fully Recommended by the Doctor!!!
13. ..tis a lovely bass! I got a play yesterday at Dave's and if I was a rich man, I'd have bought it there and then! Great feel and more Birds Eyes than somewhere with loads of birds eyes!!!
14. Wahey! What a great day - Dave has an incredible collection of basses that is like `oh f+ck me, look at that!!!' - a true gent and another nice player! I'm really pleased he has the bass - I was not really giving her the full attention she deserves!! Thanks for the coffees and crackers!!! Got in at midnight! Marcus - sorry did ne get to see you - left Peterboro fairly late in the day - but I'm sure we can get all the Geordie lads together soon - don't forget me Grandad was from Perkinsville (Chester-Le-Street) so I'm technically one of the lads!! Fosk - I'm full of surprises!! My Fernandes `Alembic' arrived in the post today - a previous owner put some Jaydee pickups in it - sounds great!
15.
I messaged this guys a few months ago and he never got back to me
I massaged him and he never got back to me! nice bass though!
16.
Is it just me, its just that I find JD's a bit 2 dimensional in appearance, other basses seem to have a depth to them, and in some respects JD's are just sort of flat, dont get me wrong they sound fine....ramble over shoot me down.
I agree and to me, thats part of their aesthetic beauty! The very early ones did not have the more pronounced `body edge' contours and they appear even slimmer in depth! Given the wider bodies, the slim depth aids weight reduction!
17. me want!!!!! Played the famous `Moowood' bass at Moo's today - brilliant!!!
18. Allo! Got to meet moo today (cheers Matt!) and play the Starchild - it really is incredible - the narrow neck with satin finish works a treat and I think I may ask John to do the same to my Classic! Really great! N
19. Just got back from a trip down to sunny Kensington to drop off the `Ice Queen' Series 2000 for Andre - met up with moo at last (top top chap indeed!!) and what an amazing collection of Status basses he has! Brought back some good memories playing my old red 2000 and I've now got GAS again for a Kingbass! He's posted some pics over at the Statii forum - God I look terrible!! Cheers! N
20. ..just to add - Adam's Sandberg is excellent - Sandberg basses just feel right - its like you've had one forever!
21. Nice basses! I've got an SE (matteo blue) in my guitar collection (15 guitars!) and for a cheapo version, its very well made and plays like butter! In fact, I have a small PRs-related anecdote for you! Back in 2000, Ian Hancock and myself exhibited our range of E Basses prototype models at the NEC Music Live show. I spotted the man himself, Paul Reed Smith and asked him to just have a look at what we were doing. He said he'd come back over next day (3 day show) and he stayed true to his word; he came over and spent around 40 minutes looking at and playing the basses - he actually said that they were the best he'd seen in ten years which considering they were prototypes, made our weekend!!! Very nice guy! If anyone into guitar wants to check some PRS out, go down to Peach Ideas near Stansted - what a great shop! Cheers! Nick (Fosks PRS made my trousers go tight!!)
22. Nah! I think we'd know the outcome of such an event!!!
23.
everything points towards that being completly legit in my eyes
Agree with kev on this - looks very much like an original.
24. Fair enough! No problem! Still makes me smile though! Hehehe!
25. Sorry Kev I just love the way you are such an expert on gear that you've never actually tried...and pricing of said gear...it brings a wry smile to my face!
