Allo! Had the misfortune to have a look round there today - trying to be polite and strike up a conversation with the bigger guy in there and was then told by the `shorter' member of staff that I was `sad owning that many basses' and should take up stamp collecting instead as I'd pull more women! Walked out and coughed the word `twat'. Needless to say I did not purchase the Aria *SBR-150 for £899....! * labelled as an SB-1000 Custom!!!
If that's you in the avatar, stop playing with wrists bent like that.
Phil! Protium tis correct! Try wearing your bass a little lower (I know I can't really talk being a King acolyte!) - I had some major right hand problems in my teens (23 years ago!) as I was playing with my bass far too high upon the chest. It tended (tendoned!) to get better on its own - I had to stop playing for a month or so, but thank the Cosmos its ok nowadays! Never play with really cold hands - espec. now the weather is getting nippy.

Nightingale Bass - early GB rarity
doctor_of_the_bass replied to Born 2B Mild's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Cant argue with the sellers description but it might be worth a google to check what he says. Does have some features still used on GB basses so may be credible. Bernie had some snakewood a while back but it was all spoken for or it would have been on my fretless.
He (the seller) is correct in what he is saying. I've owned two Nightingales in the past; one very similar to this one on Ebay and an incredible 6 string bass. I'm not sure of the exact `ins and outs' of the relationship that Bernie had with Neil but they (Nightingale) were featured in a number of magazine reviews in the early '90s. -
Play that funky music. How do you play it?
doctor_of_the_bass replied to dave_bass5's topic in General Discussion
I play this tune with one of the rock bands I dep for - as there's only one guitar player, I tend to play a combination bass/rhythm guitar line using power chords! Great fun! -

Allo! Went to see '42 t'other nite in Cambridge - the new basses sounded excellent - real bottom end and tight, crisp top ! Definitely one of the best sounds Mark has had! -
I'm going - any other Basschatters? I shall be hanging round the bar, selling unused gaffa tape for thumb wearage!

Is your bass collection worth more than your car?

Hehe! They're worth the same! -
Hi Marcus, How many rooms do you have in your house though !? I think you should have 1 bass for each room, mind you thinking about that statement Dr Bass lives in a mansion ! Steve
Correct! I've got 35 acres, seven triple garages, my own trout lake and more besides! The main hoise (note spelling!) has 48 bedrooms....! Hehe! I wish!
Her's the latest addition. An S2 Classic with a quilted maple face and fretless neck with dark grey lines. Usual great sound and feel as on any Status bass and everything I've ever wanted on an electric.
Very tasteful sir! I take it that this bass is the one that hath been in gestation!? (lovely Tokai there too!) -
Cheers guys & gals! Ooh, I'm playing at The Crown in Peterboro in December: Nick do you know what it's like?
Allo! Not sure what its like these days; last time I went in there was around '95!
Also, don't just see Mixolydian from G see: Aeolian from A Locrian from B Ionian from C Dorian from D Phrygian from E Lydian from F (I'll need to check that... later. It's hard without my bass. haha)
Correct! I find that the resolution to the root of the given chord `centre' gives an interesting `improv' or `solo' tool ie. play over an A Aeolian, then resolve the phrasing to the G root - in fact, try it with any of the modes shown!
My god, the doctor is wrong.......has the world stopped... hell frozen over? Nick, is this a first? Bass in the LIAPW vid is a twin humbucker Empathy....sorry to be pedantic! Not sure if Rob Steen has Al's Matrix, Rob Steen bought a maple Empathy (I know, I was after the same bass!), not sure who Al sold his P/J Matrix too but he didn't have it for long as I recall.....Al, if you're reading, help us out! Mike
Just checked the video and yes, its not that bass - coulda sworn it were but no (I'm big enough to admit I may have been a little bit slightly but only just incorrect)! The bass in the video was #002 - as Mike points out, with soapbars (I had the #001 bass of course!) whereas the `Gallery Empathy' featuring the PJ config was #21. Marcus - I'm going to Cambridge as already noted! -
im not really a big fan of status headless basses, i dont really get on with the asthetics of headless basses... my favourites are the kingbass mk2 and i like the bass up on the right on this pic... has anyone got any idea of what it is, and has anyone got any pic of similar ones... much appreciated a happy marcus bell, counting down until sunday (level 42 bristol), x
Allo sire! This here pic is of interest to me, that Series II in the front row tis' mine!!! Shame its a crap pic lighting wise! The Empathy was indeed MKs bass and as Rich notes, a very unusual config for an Empathy (would have been from around 1990 when Rob introduced the `Matrix' headed range); it now belongs to Rob Steen (I think Rob's got it) of Ireland! The bass appears in the Love in a Peaceful World vid (from what I recall!) -
As the good Doctor says, all the Status graphite necks have had a dual-way truss rod since the late 80's. Rich.
Er! Did I say that??!! The new Kingbass DOES have a trussrod! (just to cover any confusion!) -

Nice to know I do what one of the UK's top bassist does Post number 6
Sorry m8 - need new lenses! Good to know that we think alike eh!?

As one of the UKs top bassists (modest too!) I find myself singing in a `scat' style over a piece; ie bi di bap de bappa zappata doing biddle-ee zeng a whacka di-diiiip. I then translate this onto said bass guitar! Try it. !
