1.
I didn't want to be the first to suggest having a couple but It's a good idea I'm hatching a plan folks see what you think.... We could hire Henrys Cellar bar for about £200. That would give us a full p.a. and exclusivity for the night. I could get the drummer and singer/guitarist from my 3 piece to come along. Before we book anything I could post a set list of all our covers for you guys to learn what you fancy doing then just get up and do it. It's a bit bassyoke but it would be a laugh and give the night a bit of structure. Could also have requests that I'd get the guys to learn in advance if there's nothing there you fancy. The guitarist can literally sing and play anything and the drummer is pro and plays off the dots if need be. Just an idea... Dave
Sounds like a plan.
2.
With a bar!
Oooooh.....bar is good!!
3. As many have said, playing with other people makes a huge difference. I was the same as probably the vast majority of bassists, who, were sitting in their house playing along to cd's/youtube etc and that is fine for actually playing along. But...when you get the the studio/garage, wherever it may be that you meet up with others and start belting a few tunes out, it is amazing how quickly you will progress. It is daunting, I was the least experienced when I joined my first band, but after only 2 or 3 practices with them I had probably learnt more in those few weeks than 6 months sitting at home. Not only that but you can crank the volume up, let rip and it sounds and feels far better than getting an earful from the missus at home!!
4.
I would come for a chat and to watch. Really not very good so wouldnt like to embaress myself.
Same here!....but would be good to meet up and say hi.
5. Well hello Stuart from just over the water......nice to see someone else from this side of Hadrians wall, and this side of 40 too!!
6. That was really really good. Thoroughly enjoyed that......more please.
7. http://www.songsterr.com/ try this site. Not always perfect but gets you in the ballpark! Or here http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/
8. In the 80s I had the traditional mullet....nothing as bad as Pat Sharp I must add though! But then as you get older....and thinning out, it was time for the haircuts to come back round more often, then more and more often. Now 20 years on, its the clippers right down to the wood with less scalp to actually buzz over........hats...that's the way forward!
9. Sounding good. I like that....never got around to learning that myself yet.....but you have made me put it on my "to do" list. Really nice tone you got going there.
10. All in all. A good cover. Bass sounding good. Not the easiest tune to churn out.

Hi!!

Welcome Al. Hope you enjoy it here, always nice to have someone else from this side of the border! Where do you get a wife that promises so much for a birthday....no matter how many hints I droppped my missus didn't catch any of them!
12. Blimey....more sheepsha......Aberdonians than I thought here....... Hiya anyway from a wee bit further south in, erm.....sunny Fife!
13. Forgot to mention, as I only rediscovered it this morning after thinking about this thread..... Hazel O'Connor - Will You.
14.
I've just started researching pubs in edinburgh for gigs, and it looks like a lot of the same bands do the venues. How do you break in? money? murder?
We have the same problem over here in Fife. As our previous incarnation we had quite a lot of gigs, since we rebranded, for the want of a better phrase, we have struggled, yet we get better reviews, a bigger and better set/pa/lights etc. None of us can seem to put our finger on it. It seems like the pubs are sticking to the tried and tested week in week out!
15. A few that others have mentioned, indeed, nice and easy, and sound good too, ie Stand By Me and Chasing Cars. Both of them sound awesome when the band belts them out, simple, yet effective. Personally I like, for simpleness, yet a good thumping song, love to play Muscle Museum by Muse....fab.
16. I too have a BB424...though in the naff sparkly orange!...but... Top basses they are, fantastic value for money, very underrated in my opinion. Hope you get the sale soon.
17. Concur with everyone above. Sounding good, for only playing a year, to tackle playing and singing, kudos to you. Have heard a damned sight worse, mostly from my own band! Keep at it though, everything will tighten up given time.
18. Played at a 40th birthday party last night. Only the 4th time with new singer and each gig is getting a stronger and tighter unit with her. All went well, manylaughs, and many business cards asked for with a good possibility of other bookings coming out of it.
19. I bought a Ray34 from Mike. The purchase was hassle free, He kept me well informed of his every move and the bass was very well packaged indeed. Mike is indeed, a top top man, and I would not hesitate to deal with him again.
20. Constantly.......I have reoccuring back troubles, comes with the job of being a builder!! Had a wedding a week past friday, only 2 days after putting it out, hadn't had time to get it sorted and was dreading the load and set up etc..... To my delight, the entrance was 6 feet from the stage....oh joy. Lucky on that occasion, but have been other times where back was out and had 2 flights of stairs to go with all the pa etc etc....not nice. Slap some Voltarol cream on the back...helps get through the night!.....Rock n roll or what!!
21. If you have done all that in only 5 months, I would say that is pretty good going. We had our first recording session a few weeks ago, was a bit daaunting at first, but as long as you treat it just like a rehearsal or gig it works out fine dont it? Well done anyway, sounding good.
