1. Nice bass groove going on there.
2. Cannot find anywhere, tab, music, anything for the bass for Little Angels...you know, the 90's rock band. Have jotted down bits and pieces from what I can pick up by ear, but just wondered if anybody out there has anything tab or music wise... or indeed a book, or anything at all bass wise on them......
3. The average pub round here pays £180-£200 for a pub gig, the pub in question pays the 180, but as i say we did the first few at said price then asked for another £20 to cover some extra fuel costs as its a 150 mile round trip, which, at first they weren't overly chuffed with, but they saw the punters coming through the door. So, it could indeed be something as petty as keeping the 20 quid to themselves. All we know is the replacement band is more local to them, so they would save that measly £20! Of course, in this day of course, with fewer pubs on the scene and probably the same amount of bands, they can bargain lower fees now and play bands off against each other to pay less......sign of the times I suppose.
4. where exactly in central Scotland are you?
5. Could be quite correct in as much as the pub isn't willing to fork out more money. In all honesty we got £20 extra, as we travel an hour and a half just to get to the pub, rather than the local bands which get the bog standard amount of dosh. We also did consider the possibility that a member of the new band could have connections to somebody in the pub. It was a shame as it was always a decent gig, even taking into account the travelling......oh well......one door closes and all that......
6. Just venting here folks....... For the last year we have played a venue in the back sticks of the countryside, every 6 weeks or so, a regular gig you could say. The first time we played there, the punters loved it, a bit of rock to blow the cobwebs away as all the other acts were locals, lounge music and all that guff stuff. Every time we went back the place was busier than the previous and the owner seemed more pleased to obviously see more cash going in the till. When we last played there, at the beginning of June, it was the busiest the place had been for months, and that was the bar staff saying that, everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves and several business cards were handed out, the usual pats on backs etc. Owner more than happy to pay us and checked diary to make sure we were back at start of July. Then, mysteriously, out of the blue, the guitarist gets a phone call from the pub last week, siteing some negative feedback and they are cancelling all further dates (of which we had another 3 or 4) with effect of immediately! After a couple of phone calls from anonymous people to the pub to enquire, no reason was given to why the advertised band (us) for July has changed and a new unheard of band has now been given our slot. All of us are at a complete loss to this as the pub was busier, their till was busier, the punters loved what we did, everybody was happy, including the staff and owners, and then....dumped! Strange, no real answers, as I say.....just venting and letting off steam!!
7.
We got one done, its like vinyl type material, strong with metal eye holes It does make a big difference in clubs and halls, makes the stage look good rather than shot panelling, dirty walls or curtains etc behind you Only draw back is, you rush to put it up, tie dodgy knots etc, only to struggle to undo them at midnight
Sounds very similar to the style of our backdrop with the eyelets etc. Will all depend on what you can fasten the backdrop to, we have a lighting rig, so i went and bought some bungee cords, just crimp the ends slightly with pliers to fit snuggly in the eyelets and then attach to rig, or anything thats close by I suppose, hence the different lengths of bungees! No hellish knots at midnight......hurrah!
8. I got to say my wife is pretty understanding, with rehearsals etc, she attends a fair number of gigs and knows the power of work that goes into it. And by the time we finish at midnight etc, she has had a few drinks and tries to chat ME up ....amazing what booze does!!
9. I'll go with odd........been called worse!!
10. Good to see another one of us from north of the border joining the ranks!
11.
I'd say about 250, cos thats how many are on my play-along-bass playlist on my computer. 60 of those i play in my covers band, another 200ish of stuff i like plonking along to when i wanna stretch the fingers. I find its all about remembering you cue points rather than the full structure of the song, although the musicians your playing with have to know theirs too.
Pretty much nailed what my post was going to say.....but not as many for me, probably only about 150 in total. Our covers band has between 50-60 and the rest in stored on the pooter for me faffing away of an evening when the wife watches tv elsewhere!
12. Thanks for the input guys. Before this gig we had had only 3 rehearsals, so we were a little anxious beforehand whether we were going to be able to pull this gig off or not. She started a bit nervy, as we all did, and all the footage was from the first set as the SD card ran out....DOH!!...without you all going "yehyeh whatever", we were far more relaxed in the second half, more movement from everybody and the singer got into her groove more. Guitarist had new amp, never even rehearsed with it, so was still trying to find his levels as the first set went on. It is a little crammed in that place to be honest, stuck in the corner, but it was so good to get the first gig out of the way with her. By the end we were shattered, her energy and passion as the night went on rubbed off on the rest of us and we lifted are game no end, a total eye opener as far as I am concerned. Hopefully get some more footage over the next few gigs, things will be tweaked, different songs added and others dropped, but on the whole....I am enjoying being in the band again. Cheers guys.
13. Brilliant gig last night, one of our best. New singer in place, only been with us a month and had 3 rehearsals, but she was amazing. The energy and passion she gave the band fed the other 3 of us no end, and we just get better and better. The crowd loved it and gave us even more energy as the night went on, if we could bottle that second set last night, we could make a fortune. Roll on the next gig!
14. Nice to see another Scot on board...........welcome.
15. Glad I'm not alone in thinking Bassmasta is all buggered up.....hasn't been the same for a while now. In fact I onlt tend to go there as a last resort nowadays. Since I found Songsterr I constantly use that along with Ultimate-Guitar. As for the Songsterr site itself and all the other features on it, can't say I've ever bothered with them, I just use the site as it comes, no extra payment, no extra wee gadgets, just basically using what I see. I don't have a problem with that tbh......I get to learn the song in the end...job done!
16.
Now THIS is a bass player who knows how to move Some band called Rich Kelly & Friendship, somewhere in New Jersey, 1978... be sure to watch past the 1.30 mark.
Well......I take my hat off to him for being able to do that!......I would have lost the plot long ago even attempting that
17. Over time, we have opened with the following..... We will rock you, ...the fast live version found on Queen- Live killers Use somebody Cigarettes and alcohol Teenage kicks Cum on feel the noize Learn to fly Every wee while we like to change it, just to freshen things up. Also depends on the gig as well obvioulsy.
18. Cheers guys. You all know that it's no fun playing when you are just going through the motions, well, this has been a good wake up call for all of us. We have even realised that some of the songs actually have lyrics all the way through now First gig with new singer at start of June, 1 practice in and she has nailed 28 songs already!! Just a few wee niggles, extra chorus here, different outro there, but on the whole........awesome! Already feels like a world of difference.
19.
Really stupid question this, and I think I already know the answer... Following on from the 'Opinions please' thread, I am sure I could do more to liven up my performance over an evening. The thing is, every time I have spontaneously done it I have cocked up the song I am trying to play. Is it just practice? Does anyone practice at home "your moves!" so to speak? or just at rehearsals? Do all of you rehearse the movement? I am guessing the answer to all of those questions should be yes, but I am guessing egos may get in the way.
Normally crammed in an ickle stage, there is no room to fart let alone throwing some shapes out there, too busy trying not to stick the head of bass in singers ear! But!, on the vid in question there we were kind of awestruck at the room we had, didn't know what to do with ourselves Normally, a foot thump along with the beat or a head bop does for me, anything more tha that and I'm all over the fretboard, but.....I try!
20. Just an update on the singer............ We parted company on sunday, after hyet another gig where there were unfinished sentences, missing lyrics left right and centre, bad attitude and general all round not giving a sh*t about improving the performance, it came to a head after the gig. Yet more bad feedback from the punters at the break, so enough was enough. It was a local boozer that we don't want to not get back into again. We wished her well and no doubt she will find something else that possibly suits her better. Auditioned a new singer today and she is awesome, a total kick up the arse we need. Already at this early stage we feel the sound is more fuller, more passion, more energy, and all round....in tune! Good times round the corner me thinks.......
21. Just back from an early evening gig. Gig was a bit lethargic but passable. New venue and we didn't have time for a sound check and it was just luck that is ended up ok! Worst bit about the whole evening was that we parted company with our singer tonight, been together nearly 2 years now, not easy, she is a decent person, just too many minor issues culminating to bigger issues. So the whole evening has been a bit of a downer......now the search begins for new blood.
22. We were going to do it in our band...I spent aaaaages learning it, the wife was driven round the bend by my practicing it constantly. Eventually nailed it......and pretty chuffed with myself I was too. Something in the studio at rehearsal didn't sound right, (not the bass part I hasten to add) and it got ditched. Well peeved I was!!!
23.
WELL, I have an audition in a few weeks with a band ( I dont waste no time). Now then, they gave me a list of a few tunes they are doing and I wouldnt say they are the kinda tunes I would choose to normally do as they just dont float my boat. They arent too far away from my usual stuff but not quite there. I now dont know if its worth letting this one by and holding out for something that I instantly click with. Or go along and try it anyway which means learning about 13 songs that I have to learn from scratch and barely know to listen to!!!!!!
If nothing else, it's keeping your hand in. Learning new stuff, even if it isn't exactly what you like is all good stuff, I find it makes me appreciate other styles etc a bit more. You can but try this other band, it might work out ok, if not you can always jack it after you have given it a bash...nothing ventured nothing gained and all that guff!
24. Chin up....something will turn up. Bide your time and something will come along for you, just don't hang up the bass, keep plugging away.
