1. I've never sold anything but have donated several times However, I do have an interface up for sale at the moment for £100. Will this listing be taken down at some point... how does it work for existing listings?
2. https://soundcloud.com/cheddatom/uniform this could be an interesting one, the drums are tracked using one stereo mic, nothing else. The guitar and bass are DI'd. I can do stems no problem It's not great if you want to practise your drum sounds, but I certainly found it a good challenge to get a good sound out of the one stereo mic. I've not been joining in with the competition as I've been stuck mixing new Dirty Money tracks, which they wouldn't want me to put out for public consumption.
3. you could use dirt instead of compression. When I'm doing synthy sounds I tend to use an envelope follower, and a wah as well (plus octave and the rest). If there's no dirt or compression after these effects, I just hear the peak of the squelch (does that make any sense?) rather than the full fatness. Dirt, or compression, calms down that peak and means I can hear the low mids again, which are obviously essential.
4. I only come on BC at work, never have the time at home, and I can't listen to music at work... ... but yeh I do feel very guilty, considering some BCers have been very nice about my bands' music
5. I record a lot of distorted bass and get great results just using DI(s) and EQ. In my experience micing bass is more trouble than it's worth.
6. I would agree on the Rat - either get a Rat and clean blend it, or get one of the posh rat clones with a built in clean blend.
7. IMO you need distortion or compression to make a synthy/filter pedal work well
8. well if you use a mixer to mix two chains back together I think that would be buffered? Maybe not. I used to use one of those mini line mixers for this purpose - 3 jack sockets, 3 knobs, and one jack lead coming out of it. I think I got it for £10 from Ebay EDIT: That was a totally passive line mixer so wouldn't have had a buffer
9. I have a pair of the bullets and know another guy who has them after I recommended them. I've mixed some of his sessions as well as using my own. Mainly as drum overheads but also on acoustic guitars and some percussion. Honestly, they're ace.
10.
Danelectro French Toast? Cheap price belies the sound you can get from these things.
Good call!! Another favorite of mine is the Red Llama - I only have a clone but I hope it's similar to the proper one else my recommendation is useless
11. recording at SSR in Manchester
12. ... in case anyone is interested in hearing the guitar one on bass I have a weird thing on my soundcloud here: https://soundcloud.com/cheddatom/xxl-bass
13. in addition to playing about with the order of effects in series, I really like blending different effects chains in parallel, although you need extra kit to do that, just thought it was worth a mention
14. damn, thought so, I have the guitar one and it is good but would really love a go of the purple one
15. what's your budget for the interface? And mics?
16. yeh but I wanted it for my laptop, I have a few M-Audio delta cards in my PC
17. what a great read, excellent! I was talking to him about his pedals outside a gig in Manchester but was too drunk... He said to me he was using the Bass XXL (the purple one) but I can't see it in your pics and you call it "Tech 21 XXL" - can you confirm which one he's using?
18. I would consider trades for studio gear or effects pedals...
19. cool, let us know how you get on stevie
20. how are you going to split the signal before it gets to the pedals? I'd just go with an LS-2
