1. What I love about them, and the reason they stand out compared to most other bands of similar "heaviness" is the way they play about with tempo and pitch. How sh*t would it sound if Chino was autotuned? And Abe quantised?
2.
+1 Diamond Eyes is also absolutely cracking. I haven't heard the new one yet but I've heard nothing but good things.
Same here, I need to get it ASAP I went to see them live in Manchester a couple of weeks ago... SO HEAVY!!!
3. For me, as a fiend for tone, Jaco's sound was never that inspiring (although I love his playing). I prefer the tone of Timmy C from RATM who is notorious for messing with his basses, pedals and amps. Interesting that no-one has yet suggested "the tone is all in the fingers"... are we all getting past that misnomer?
4. haha, sorry, the guitarist is definitely as least a "co producer" on this album, I prefer to keep it simple. I love the result though! Also, my apologies to all, it was recorded in 16bit so what you've got is all I can do
5.
Noooo octave down! I only use the octave for the low end... Turn that off and the bass sounds thin and whispy lol I do turn the octave off when I have to do intro or strumming as it gets confused and sounds all manky..
well you've got your octave down pedal going into the mixer, then the clean out of that goes into your dirt. If you ran that into the pitchbox for octave up it might be a massive sound!
6. Just bought a pedal from Chris - a pleasure to deal with, no problems at all, and it arrived very well packed etc. Top job!
7. I find I've become obsessed with music. I do a lot of it, and am happy with the way my musical life has and is progressing, but it does mean I don't have a career, or any money, and when I try explaining my motivations in life it all sounds rather stupid to most "normal" people. I don't know if that's a bad thing? But it's the thing which bothers me most
8. sorry OldG, as above I'll check tonight, see how they were recorded, and if it was done at 24 bit I'll re-do them at 24 bit
9. octave up can be cool on bass, especially combine with some dirt and/or delay, you might want to give it a try
10. so wah, OD, and Gate are all blended with clean/octave... where does the pitch box go? It's a cool board anyway, you just need another 3 dirt pedals
11. well that's probably your problem! It might be fine at practise where you can have your favorite cab in your favorite position etc. but if you're having problems with your sound on stage then you need to play with your EQ
12. OK, it's on my music system at home but will do my best to sort it out tonight, either just a post to say "recorded at 16 bit" or I'll re-do the stems I did start recording everything at 24bit at some point but I'm not sure if this song falls into that window
13. It should be 246 Mb in total I'm not sure what format it was recorded in sorry, I'll check later, I was just trying to save on file size... it'll take about an hour to re-export all the stems but I don't mind doing it if it'll make a difference
14. ok, cool, just uploading to creepjoint.co.uk/sapereaudestems.zip It's under 300mb but still might take an hour or two to upload so I'd try after midnight or in the morning. I had a few issues as there are so many tracks and so many edits. I've tried to compile some things together on to the one stem, but it's obvious where they are so you can always cut them up to treat them seperately if needs be. I managed to get 50 odd channels down to 33 stems, should be a bit more manageable. I did still keep the kick and snares seperate for the section played on a different kit... It should all become obvious when you load them up anyway If you need anything specific just ask, I can always go back through it. I've gone for 44K 16bit WAVs, I hope that's OK with everyone I'm really looking forward to hearing what you guys come up with
15. cool, and would it be OK to upload one big zip or would everyone prefer I put them on soundcloud?.. I guess you upload each track as if it's a seperate song? It'd be easier for me to just do one big zip file
16.
New setup Yeah.
What are you using the mixer for Tony?
17. thanks Charic! We did our first gig in over 18 months on Saturday, it was amazing. We've only ever played locally but hopefully will be travelling a bit this year, I'll keep you informed.
18. you could have a pre-amp or EQ pedal or the like after your distortion pedal, therefore avoiding any impedence issues. I always send my pedal board straight to the desk for the soundman to EQ, and then have a graphic EQ on my amp to set the on-stage sound.
19. hah, cool, ok I'll do stems later. One mono track, the same length for each instrument, obviously several for guitars That song in particular was done with two different drum takes, two different snares, should I put both snares on one track?
20. hah, that's how I like it! But yeh it might be a bit much for some
21. ok, all agreed... any song off the 2nd album, you can listen here: http://theallimportantliedetectortest.com I guess track 1 or 2 would be the simplest. "Bulletproof" was recorded all together so plenty of bleed on the drum mics. Just one extra layer of guitar, could provide more of a challenge. Just let me know if you want to use any of them and I'll get stems done
22. sounds to me like you could do with a graphic EQ or an active EQ on your bass... You're looking to reduce high mids and increase low mids. You should be able to get a nice punchy sound without making the whole stage boomy. The problem might be taste though... mostly overdriven and plenty of clank is my kind of tone!
23.
...I'm not sure my ears could stand it for long
That's kind of the point of the song, but yeh, sorry I've asked the creepjoint guys if I can contribute one of the songs off the latest album, that should be more palatable
24. ok, nice one. I think i'll do the £20 anyway
25. At the moment I play drums in one hip-hop/raggae band, one folk band, and one rock band. I also play bass in an instrumental (not sure on genre but going for...) post-rock band I'm also in the middle of developing my solo stuff which is just weird rock where I play drums, bass, guitar and sing I used to play bass in a rock band and drums in a punk band I think that's varied enough, although I wouldn't mind trying my hand at piano in a jazz trio
