1.
definition of a lowballer...
Is defined by the lowly-balled, surely!
2. 12 pages of nothing but bullshit and i've still not sold my opinion. If you want it just make an offer. FFS the worst that can happen is I say no
3. If I have to respect the opinion that a low ball offer is offensive, don't I also have to respect the opinion of the low-ball-offerer? So his offer is both to be respected, and offensive?
4. yeh, 1A, it says it'll do 10 pedals but it wouldn't do 10 of mine!
5.
Powered by a Dr Tone PSU10 Power Supply.
I've been all over google trying to find out how much current this PSU supplies. I can't find it anywhere, could you have a look on the back?
6. I bought some newtones strings recently. when they arrived the C string snapped straight away. I sent an email explainign I realised it could have been my bridge or something, but could they sell me another one ASAP as I couldn't wait for the normal lead time. They wound me a new one with a thicker core to make sure it wouldn't break and sent it out FOC. Very impressed!!!
7. let us know how you get on
8. I don't find them very easy to move with the mouse actually. I always use CTRL+Numpad0 to set the left locator at the cursor point, and CTRL+Numpad1 to set the right locator
9. sorry, go on file and then export, then audio mixdown It'll come up with a dialogue box where you can browse to a location and type in a filename There are some options regarding format. I'd do CD quality WAVs which is WAV file format, then 16bit and 44Khz in the other boxes. Then just press export and it'll give you a progress box.
10. you have to set the Left and Right locators to the start and end of the song, then run an export. Depending on the mix, length of song, and the spec of the machine, this could take anywhere between 1 and 20 minutes.
11. it'll be the shielding on one of the cables I think. Try bass > comp > amp and keep swapping cables until it goes away. If it doesn't go away, maybe it is a faulty pedal?
12. I'm pretty sure there's an option to save the project to a new folder, just in the file menu. That's on SX3. I think on 5 it has a "backup project" option which is a lot more annoying. when you open the project on the new system it gives you a list of missing plug-ins. Save the list to a text file. It will retain all settings etc so when you install them, they will work again.
13. if someone says "no offers, firm price" in their ad, and then I PM a low offer, I'd understand why they'd be annoyed. More often than not it just says a price, so obviously you'd offer lower than that. If someone asks me for my best offer, why they hell would I actually tell them what it is? If I say to a seller "what's your best price" he's not going to tell me the absolute minimum he will take. Some people just take things personally
14. I see that people like discussion in for sale threads, but also don't want them jumping to the top in less than 36 hours. I don't see how the two are compatible? The bump button is a good idea, but as soon as anyone posts in the thread it will be bumped anyway
15. I suppose you could call a playing technique an effect - palm muting for example, drastically changes the sound of the bass. If I use a pedal to get my palm muted sound, but you use your palm, we're both getting the same effect, so maybe you do use effects even though you've got no boxes on the floor?
16. Great thread. I'm going to give this a go now the creepjoint album's out of the way. Also I have years worth of sessions I can export stems from - just in case we ever run out
17. I like to parallel blend it with a really harsh attacking overdrive sound
18. yes, that's the kind of insight I love. I guess you have a few more basics to cover on the blog, but when you have, a sort of general "step by step mix session" would be ace. I know everyone has their own methods/work-flow but personally i'd find that fascinating.
19. Great stuff! I feel like I know a lot of this stuff but it's like good revision. You should write a text book Si!
20. I've had problems with that before. I got a very nice guitar sound using a dry track on one side and then a delayed version on the other. When summed to mono it just disappeared. Obviously the delay time I liked meant it was totally out of phase with the dry track. But yeh i'll give it a go when playing. Maybe I don't notice 3ms because I can hear my bass quite loud acoustically when I play.
21. interesting. I'm going to try and figure out how much latency I can hear by playing through my computer and radually increasing latency. I think I get about 3ms at the moment which I don't notice.
22. I think he meant in like a Roland modelling amp or the like, which I guess would be pretty much 0 latency
23. I have the XP-100, there is a bit of latency. I use mine for octave up and pitch bends and it's fine for this. I don't really notice tracking issues but I would never use it below a D I suppose so wouldn't have noticed. Anyway, it has the harmony modes from the Bass Whammy apparently (not that I use them) I'd like to test the WH-4 against the WH-5. The WH-4 is OK on bass but the sound is thinner than the XP-100. I'd say the tracking is similar.
24. recent thread is definitely very useful. The rest of it is fine IMO
