1. I don't think that's the case at all. It must be more to do with what's interesting to talk about. The beauty in music - how it makes you feel personally, is not easily expressed or shared, where as comparing gear and "chops" is...? could be talking bollocks
2. could be a phase thing? EDIT: Oh, beaten to it. It's an easy test anyway, if you have an old jack lead you can take apart.
3. Thanks for the George Massenburg video Si, I got around to watching it yesterday, it's very interesting
4. I've always used my dirt and comp pedals in the loop of the NS-2 with delays after it
5. It's not just about price. I've seen people regurgitate advice they've read online, on forums like this, without even trying it for themselves. Judge your gear with your ears, or in the case of a bass with your hands too. Obviously durability is important too, but if you take care of your gear, it should be fine. Apparently the behringer plastic pedals are very durable indeed, but I don't own any so wouldn't know. I would buy them if I allowed my pedal addiction to grip me again
6. I don't know any blenders with a phase control built in but I'm sure there are some specialist ones around. So, in that respect, the LS-2 will be on a par with all common blenders. The LS-2 allows you to mix two chains of effects together (among other functions), which is sometimes a lot more useful than just a clean blend. I have a barge concepts blender, and a SFX mixer thing, they all sound similar to me! edit to say - I'm not sure a phase inverter switch would be that much use, you might as well just make a jack lead that flips the phase
7. oh dear, I hope everyone else has submitted their mix, they're getting some great tips here! I'll have to play about with a hat mic once i'm in my new space, which should be nice and dry
8. I always got the impression you were more bothered about how cool the bass looked, rather than how good it sounded? I like a bit of both, but yeh, not bothered about minute details as long as it makes a big noise, who cares?
9.
I'm all about simplicity. Just ask Shep!
Obviously you need another 2 levels of dirt at least, plus an envelope filter and a couple of delay pedals. That would be simple!
10. very sw***y mcgraham but you've not left much room for expansion!
11. it's ont of the Red Audio overhead thingies that come with the drum set... always sounded fine as an overhead. I wonder, would a dynamic mic work better on the hats? What do you use?
12. If you've got the money it's a good mantra!
13. I don't think I used the hat mic at all Si. In fact for the whole album I recorded a hat mic but didn't use it 'cos it didn't add anything. Is that my positioning do you think?
14. well I love the sound, but I record a lot and it took me about 6 months in that room to get happy with my mixes. Now i'm looking at moving to a smaller/drier space and that's scarey - I'll have to find reverb plug-ins that I like for drums!
15. yeh it's a massive room with huge reverb sorry!
16. When mixing drums, I generally get the overheads sounding nice, which might take a bit of EQ and compression, and then I solo each individual close mic and work out where a mid-cut should be. So, on the snare top, a cut around 600Hz might sound good. On the bottom, a cut around 1K or 5K. On the kick around 200Hz etc etc. Then I like parallel compression on the whole kit, and probably individual compressors on the kick and snare
17.
+1 for overlcockers, i got all the componants for my last pc build there, the processor and mother board bundles are always pretty decently priced imo, and saves hassle trying to find the ones that pair up
Yeh their support isn't bad either I have used Novatech in the past who were cheap - on a par with Ebuyer I guess. I've never had to deal with support/customer service from any of these
18. ebuyer tends to be very cheap. Overclockers do some good "bare bones" systems which always save time and hassle. Those are the two I use Your system sounds like a dream come true, I wish I could afford the same! EDIT: I should say, I regularly record 10-20 channels of audio at 48Khz, 24bit, all to external USB drives, so you should be fine without going SSD
19. Oh god, now I'm nervous... these "rush jobs" are going to be better than my months of agonising!
20. Some bands I love so much I happily play for nothing. Other bands i'd find it hard to keep turning up if there was no money. Some are like pure passion, others are like a job. So, it depends why you're playing the music!
21. that's a great board!
22.
...but my ears have had enough!
23. Maybe the real problem is not Rickenbacker, but the companies such as Ebay, Gumtree etc who capitulate at the first whiff of a lawyer
24. Not sure why you're using an LS-2 with the ODB-3 as the ODB-3 has it's own blend control If I'm right and your LS-2 is redundant, you could switch it out for an EQ pedal or the like to give you an extra switchable tone But yeh, the programmable sansamp does look ace
25. I just googled rockinbetter, there are loads of businesses selling them, and yet he goes after private sellers? No wonder people get pissed off!
