I don't think fee's can be included as it's pretty much a personal thing between band and venue. Also I'm a bit worried about libelous statements, we've had one or two bun fights to deal with in the past when members have posted stuff about non members and they have been tipped off about it and come on here to have a look. It's a monumental pain to deal with.

Caffe Americano in Swansea, Wales... terrible management :(
Johngh replied to BigBassBob's topic in General Discussion
If the owner had come up to me with that attitude after giving us no space, I'd have packed up and gone home. Simple -
Be prepared for an avalanche of Fender/Squire/Warwick recommendations...
Well for that money you would get a nice Fender Geddy Lee signature, eexcellent basses for the money. I'd have a good look through the for sale section, and be prepared to travel to look at the bass and try it first, I've sold and bought countless basses off here and never had a bad deal yet.

Which bassline inspired you to pick up the bass?
Johngh replied to skej21's topic in General Discussion
Probably all of Slade Alive. Jim Lea was incredible. <------------------------And so is his cousin Geddy -
ishambles Folk are hardly going to be lining up to subscribe after this are they.

Stagefright - who suffers from it and how do you deal with it?
Johngh replied to 4000's topic in General Discussion
I don`t get any stage fright as such, the only thing I get is a "hurry up and lets get on stage" feeling, rather like a kid waiting for Xmas Day, as I enjoy playing live so much. Some may say that this may be a form of stage fright, I don`t know, only that I never get nervous about how many are in the audience, will I play ok, is my gear going to work properly etc, so to me, that`s an absence of stage fright.
This about sums up how I feel as well. However, if I'm soundchecking and I'm struggling to get a decent tone, then that gets my nerves more than anything else. To be honest, I normally set up, then go and find a chippy and stuff my face, then get back to the venue, get a pint and then go and play. I just kind of have a set routine that I go through just before we play. -
Who's Next? Need to decide who to write my next book on...
Johngh replied to Bilbo's topic in General Discussion
Got to be Stanley Clarke as I haven't heard of any of the others really I'm not a Jazzer you see, only like Jazz Fusion, and then only remotely. Soz -
I saw him in 2002 with a 5 string Vigier, then later that year with a Jazz. He has a Nash road worn Jazz as well now.

Blimey, Mani joins BassChat! And now ...Fumps!!!!!
Anyway, simple courtesy demands we treat him with the respect we'd show any new member and interact as we would with anyone else here. (As long as it's not a huge wind-up).
Too true. I've always thought it a shame that name players don't feel more comfortable being members on here. But we have had a few episode's where individuals have been responsible for being down right rude to these people, so they have not posted any more. So guy's, show ANY member the respect they deserve, no matter who they are. -
My good friend and band mate Matt toured with Glenn for a couple of years just before he started doing the thing with Bonnaammaassaaa and he rolled up with his fave Ampeg rig. A valve head, possibly CL and IIRC a 4x10 and 1x15 for most gigs. Matt. Can confirm that the onstage volume, even behind the kit was loud! GH likes his rig to sing, that's for sure. His red P bass is a Nash that i know he loves to bits. Glenn accompanied Chad Smith on a drum clinic up these here parts (yes, that's the drunken pictures of Chad and i on my FB!) - surprisingly, he turned up with a MarkBass LM2 to try out and the huge 610HF underneath. It sounded good, but we both agreed it was a little 'nice' sounding at the after show errrmmm drinking session. Glenn returned to his Ampeg rig afterward. he's been seen with a Laney valve head recently, but I've no idea if he's a full time endorsee? I have a hunch he is, but i didnt look before i started typing! Never a good idea! Ha ha!
When Matt played with Glenn, Glenn was using a Yamaha bass, not the Nash, that came later when he was with Bonamassa and Black Country Communion. Nowdays Glenn endorses Laney.

5-string basses - how useful is the 5th string? POLL time, yay!
Johngh replied to Clarky's topic in Bass Guitars
The poll is interesting but I feel its mostly a reflection of the views of 5-string owners who are more inclined to recommend 5'ers. Were this to be opened up to the whole BC community (many of whom will have found the OP title off-putting/dull I suspect!) I suspect the bottom option might well be in an unassailable lead!
To be honest Clarky we recommend them because we use them, if you get my drift. I've actually just sold my last 5 and have a 4 and 2 6ers now. I can't imagine doing a gig without the low b as I use the extra low notes quite a lot -
California Jam was Hiwatt 200 heads through Martin bins. He played a Ricky for a while then went back to Fenders.

Pain and Passion this is. Pain because I decided to let Miss Myrtle go after I had an offer for her that I couldn't refuse, and Passion because I ended up with alanbass1's Kingbass. To be honest, if missmyrtle had got LED's it wouldn't have gone anywhere.

How close to the original bass line would you play in a covers band?
Johngh replied to molan's topic in General Discussion
I play as close to the original line as fits the band. Were a four piece so if the guitarist is soloing I'll either play routes to keep it solid or routes with a few chords thrown in to fill it out. No hard and fast rules for me. -
Alex bought my ESP 6 string off me, real nice guy. Straightforward deal with no strife, highly recommended.
-
I don't worry about playing any technical stuff at all initially. I like to play some simple stuff and listen to how the bass sounds and resonates across all the strings, mess about with the pup configurations and tone controls to hear the different tones available then take it from there. I also like to play through a decent rig or combo if I can.

So you have to use a Thunderbird or you dont get the job
Johngh replied to grimbeaver's topic in General Discussion
Interesting that they want you to use a T'bird but the bass player in the pics on the website is using a Yam Attitude Also a shame they are having 6 months off, I'll get to see them again once they are back up and running.
