1. Thanks again everyone. The hand is shot and I need to come to terms with that. All of the suggestions of alternatives has given me a lot to think about! It's the start of a new part of my life and I will make the best of what I have left
 2.
That's a tough call to make. But the fact you're doing so and facing the situation head on, rather than denying it and doing yourself more damage, is very commendable and definitely the right thing to do. You lose out on gigging and rehearsing. That sucks. But I'm certain you're going to gain a new lease musical life as a result of this situation. You can still lay down a mean baseline in half an hour. And you now have a good reason to focus more on composition and exploring other instruments. Wishing you well with whatever comes, mate. Paul
Cheers Paul I enjoy the composition stuff. To be honest the December composition did not get finished as I was suffering badly as I was pushing my hand too much. Live and learn!
 3.
Blademan and Homer, if I'm not being too nosey, what's the actual problem?
Many years ago I broke my right hand. The damage is permanent. The past has a nasty habit of coming back and biting you.
 4.
Sorry to hear that, Brian. All the best and hope little and often works better.
Cheers Pete I never did buy you that pint or three! I'd really like to hear you play and perhaps this year I'll make the trip to Ipswich if you are playing at the festival again? Brian
 5.
Oh mate, that's bad. Nightmarish. I hope you get it sorted very soon. Best wishes mate x
Cheers Nige, Just when I had got started gigging again on a regular basis too. But that is what brought the condition to the for. Thanks to all those well wishers. As I told the band, I may be down but I'm not out yet
 6.
Sorry to hear that man
Cheers.
Sorry to hear that. Any chance of playing some keyboard bass with the left hand?
That's a good idea, thanks.
 7.
Sometimes you have to go backwards to move forwards. Hope it works out.
Cheers Bilbo. Music is such a part of my life it's hard to give up.
All the best Blademan thats a bit of a naff situation but it sounds like you have done the right thing in planning your best way around it and still making music
I have been in denial for a while but finally woke up!
I feel for you. My turn soon.
Thanks, I hope it's not too soon.
 8. I wear my ER15's when using proper headphones to practice. I prefer to practice to open air though. When rehearsing, I always use ear plugs.
 9. Well, after continuing to ignore medical opinion for the last eight months, I have finally had to come to the realisation that I have to give up gigging. My hand has got to such a state that after rehearsal (around three hours) my right hand no longer works. It swells up and movement is lost. The next day the hand will not work properly for most of the day. I can still play for around half an hour before it gets 'uncomfortable' and anything after that, I know I will suffer. So, I'm not giving up on music or playing, just gigging and rehearsing! I really enjoy writing music and it would be too much to give up completely. I have a keyboard I like to tinkle on and as long as I keep to the half hour sessions, I can keep up bass, guitar and keys hopefully for many years. I have put an advert on the bass player wanted section if anyone is interested in the position (Oh, and I will remain active on BassChat of course!)
 10. Hi All, I am stepping down from gigging and my band The Underdogs require a replacement. It is my intention to continue until a replacement is found. Rehearsals are at my studio in Aylesbury (Buckinghamshire HP19). I have a PA and we have a full set list and have gigged. I'll still be involved with the band but my hand has got to a stage where I can't play a full set and the next day my hand is fairly useless. So if anyone is interested, PM me and we can set up an audition. Recent Setlist: Changing Man Ever fallen in Love You Upset Me Baby American Idiot Sunshine of your love Little Wing Purple haze Cocaine Hard to handle Knocking on Heavens Door Parisian Walkways Basket Case Pretty Vacant Hey Joe Crossroads Ruby Ruby Ruby Eton Rifles Teenage Kicks Comfortably Numb Had to kill her Jumpin Jack Flash Red House Paranoid White room Gimme Some Lovin Free bird
 11.
Is that the 'other music shop' in Milton Keynes?...Ronnie is usually the friendliest geezer goin
No I live in Aylesbury The trip to Hollywood Music is worth it though.
 12.
Lemme guess: you left your red cape at home... I wouldn't have recognised you either.
Next time I will wear it and we will see. He must get a lot of pug dogs in
 13. My local music shop is hit and miss. I have spent loads in there over the years. He never seems to recognise me When ever I go in to a music shop I usually say that I am new to playing and want to see how the bass/guitar whatever is like. The chap was about to hand me a guitar and changed his mind and said "come back when you have learned to play!" Perplexed, I left and went over to Hollywood music in Stony Stratford and got a really good deal on Takemene acoustic. I still bought a keyboard from there before Christmas I told him I was interested in a Yamaha one and pointed at it. He started to play it and I said "I know what it sounds like I just want to buy it...!" Very rude of me but he has never recognised me over the last ten years of patronage and I just wanted to buy it and go home
 14.
Lets face it , anyone can learn how to play the bass but being beautiful is a gift from God . A bad player can have lessons , practise and improve but an ugly bastard will always be an ugly bastard .
Sadly you are correct. I can have lessons but I will always be bald, fat and overweight
 15.
That's because he was a guitarist. Noel went for the guitar gig with the Animals but was persuaded to play bass for Hendrix instead. I don't blame Noel Redding for playing bass with Hendrix. What a great gig!
I would have played for Jimi too if only he would have asked And i play just like Noel lol
 16.
Noel Redding was a guitarist who got lucky and joined Jimi Hendrix's band. His bass playing is duff. edit : and Mitch Mitchell was crap too. Supposedly Hendrix used to creep into the studio at 3 in the morning with other better musicians and record tracks - 'rainy day, dream away' being one of them where the bass is actually played on hammond organ by mike Finnigan and the drummer is Buddy Miles.
I wondered if anyone would mention Noel He is my hero! Not the best but that is why I like him.
 17. I have pictures of musical heroes plus chord charts etc on the walls. Music books and recording gear. My basses and a couple of guitars. My new keyboard too
 18. It did end, you lot just haven't noticed
 19. Eric Clapton. Well he changed my world

 21. Thanks for the encouragement is it appreciated! The lyrics I like and will keep but the rest........ a rewrite is in order. I never seem to give myself space for everything to gel. Still, I finish for the year on Friday so I am determined to get an entry in
 22. I have hearing loss because I did not use ear plugs, ever. At work they were issued but I did not take advantage. I am the only one in the band (late 40's to mid 50's age group) who wears them. I have to protect what is left!
 23. Well, I thought I would put together my ideas and lay down some groove tonight. It is really rubbish Back to the drawing board lol I didn't even get to laying down any drums! It's on Soundcloud but it's not my entry
 24. Ah, I often play air bass I also jig about whilst riding my motorcycle. I get colleagues who have followed me asking what the problem was!
