1. So yesterday the D'Addario Pro Steels I ordered for my new five-string $$ Corvette (acquired in a trade with Shawman by the way, top guy) arrived. My friend had recommended them as they sound absolutely ace on his USA Std. Jazz Anyway, I did the silly thing and re-strung them from the G up, only to find when it came to the B the string was too obese at the end to fit the Warwick's crazy two-piece bridge. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem/can recommend any strings that fit? The previous strings had the little thread parts at either end hence why they had no problem. Also is it possible to return the D'Addarios for a new set from Stringsdirect? I figure it's a bit of a long shot because I've already trimmed the other four? Cheers!
 2. Haha - that's an Friedland signature rig right there! Good effort with the hairstyle, but is it complete with the beard and glasses? They may be only small features but tonally I hear they make quite a large difference I've not shaved for a while and I've found the extra mass really contributes to the sustain. ...That's my excuse anyway
Just look at my gear list! I even have his hairstyle
3. Thanks guys! Yeah it looks like a road-trip down to the Bass Merchant is going to have to happen soon! I guess I'll have to try everything out - but brands like Barefaced cabs and some of the other gear I'd never come across, so the comments have been really helpful Oh and like the use of the term 'cab-age'. Cheers!
 4. Haha gotta love a bit o' the Bass Whisperer! I end up wanting pretty much anything he reviews - have to limit how much I watch his videos
Did you watch the ed friedland shuttle vs streamliner test? Makes me want both and an old P Bass!
5.
Genz Streamliner head with the same cab as mine then
Just looked that up and it looks ace! Certainly portable and it's got everything I'd need without over-complicating things - fits the bill very nicely! Thank-you sir! Now I can't wait 'til Christmas
 6.
I should re-phrase my question really as I'm starting to change my opinion that certain amps suit certain styles of music more as I'm finding that most amps can suit most mixes if used properly. What kind of tones do you like? Stuff like Genz and Eden do the super-clean tone really well, the GK artist series does really fat and growly well, I'm finding the MB Fusion is very versatile, with good use of the controls it can do very clean but also the classic GK rumble (though not quite to the extent of the artist stuff, but then it's a different amp that has a different voice).
Well preferably as transparent as possible! I use a Warwick $$ Corvette and a homemade passive Precision, so I'd like there to be a clear difference more than a specific amp sound like an SVT Ampeg or something. For the rock stuff pretty fat and growly's the way forward, so maybe a tube/decent tube simulator would be good - but I'd need to be able to go back to the super-clean stuff as well for the more chilled out stuff!
 7.
I'm going to unashamedly say GK again, as I always do to this kind of thread. I'm touring with an MB Fusion and two NEO212s at the moment and it sounds fantastic and is portable as well. You'd be able to pick up the head and one cab for your budget which would be enough for most gigs. Alternatively you could mix it up a bit and go for a 4x10 or add a 1x15 and get the MB500. Loads of options. There's also the artist series heads that are fantastic too, though a little weighter. My 2001RB-II and 2x 410RBH setup sounds incredible, it's not what you'd call a convenient rig though. What kind of stuff are you playing?
Yeah GK does look rather good! I play a bit of a mix really - at the bigger venue it's more of a rocked up kinda thing, whereas with my cover band it's just myself, acoustic guitar and two vocals, so it's pretty chilled out stuff. Another band though I'm going to be touring the UK with shortly is also a bit more rock-orientated, so I'll need the rig to suit that too! Bit of a contrast really - but I can only afford the one set-up!
 8. Hey guys, I'm a little stuck on what to buy in terms of one's rig! There's a lot of stuff out there! So far I've been managing with a Crate BT220 combo - solid state 15" thing that's actually pretty good for what it's worth! But I'm going to be playing out of the bedroom a lot more, so I've budgeted for something around the £1000-1300 mark for this coming Christmas. Essentially I'm looking for a head and cab(s). I play quite often in a pretty big venue where there's a 'house cab'/bring-your-own-head kind of vibe, and at the moment I'm having to borrow my friend's EBS HD350 a lot (which is a NICE head! But I don't want to just keep taking advantage of my friends generosity). So perhaps the head is the main thing. Essentially something that's portable, reasonably versatile, reliable and most importantly sounds ace, because I'm probably going to be stuck with it for a while! I also already do lot of smaller pub gigs with my little acoustic(ish) cover band, and it all has to fit in our frontman's car, so 4x10 is perhaps the limit! I just wondered if anyone perhaps had any suggestions, or advice on what to be looking at? I've been looking at some of the TC RH450s/RH750s and wondered if anyone had any thoughts on those? Cheers!
 9. Gary's a top bloke - drove all the way from Dundee to Carlisle to trade a bass! Great, honest, friendly guy. Deal with confidence people Cheers again! Ben
 10. Yep, I saw Muse at Wembley last September and Chris played a few on one of these! Absolutely love these basses. If I find £700 lying around I'll let you know Good luck with the sale!
 11.
yeah these are made in Germany, and i've had the bass for a while and never actually checked the exact date - i'll look it up and let you know!
Thanks! Really interested.
 12.
here's the FS thread http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=131447
Thanks - looks really nice! I'm very much interested These are made in Germany right? How old is it exactly? I'd be pretty much happy if you'd like to trade?
 13.
warwick $$ five string?
Sounds very good to me Got any more details?
 14.
How much ££? What year is it? Thanks
Sorry I think I misunderstood the ££ question! I bought my bass here: http://www.gak.co.uk/en/fender-deluxe-acti...ass-black/15854 (RRP at just over 850) and then spent around another 100 on the modifications, so anything in that region of price would be cool Thanks!
 15.
Might be an idea if you put some sort of value on the Jazz so folk know what the ballpark £ figure is in terms of a trade bass.
Ah okay - yeah this makes sense. My bad. Original post has been amended, cheers
 16. Good ol' Friday afternoon bump
 17. +1 on the Squier Classic Vibes Check this out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x6Cd98DH__U Ed Friedland does a comparison with the Squiers and their respective Fenders
 18.
Those look flipping marvellous! Love the Justice (although not too sure on the lipstick tube pickups) and the Mercalli 5-FM looks fabulous. The DubKing reminds me of Feeder's Taka Hirose's basses. Only without the gold sparkle! There's an 'international' dealers page on the site, link below. http://www.reverendguitars.com/reverend/de...l#international
Yeah they all look pretty ace! I wonder where they got the idea for the name 'Decision' from? Never noticed that international dealers link - that bloke in Oxfordshire might be getting a call soon Cheers!
 19. I've got a friend who's still looking to sell his BB415 on here? Black in pretty much as new condition. I think he's only after 200? Brilliant bass http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=129217
 20. I've had the chance to play on a few of the Reverend guitars before and the quality/sound/playability is amazing. And for the pricetag they're practically a steal. Anyway, I got rather excited a couple of months ago when Reverend brought a new line of basses at the start of '11. The Mercalli 5 FM looks ace! I've since been trying to find a UK dealer but I can't find one anywhere! You can usually pick up a few of their guitars here and there but I guess the basses haven't been out long enough? Just wondered if anyone knows of a place to pick one up, or perhaps has tried one? 21.
How much ££? What year is it? Thanks
Hey Andy, I'm not sure exactly what date it is but I know it was built somewhere in the 00s. I think some of the Fender documentation I got with it was dated 2006 but I'm not sure. I bought it brand new in 2009 anyway. If there's an easy of finding out I'll gladly oblige! Hope this helps In terms of ££ I'm only really looking for a trade with a 5-string - I'm after the low B otherwise I'd be keeping the Jazz! Thanks!
 22. Because this bass is cool. U M P
 23.
Yeah some cash your way would have had to happen, it was a long shot. Good luck fella.
Cheers
