1. +1 to the D'addarios, I don't know of any other brand that does them. I've got a 5-string Pro Steel set and it's brass for E, red for A, black for D and green for G - don't know if that applies to the Pro Steel set alone or the whole D'addario range though! Best of luck
2. Kevin mailed me over some pick-ups from his Gretsch which he'd replaced - for FREE! Excellent packaging, pick-ups were immaculate, my brother will appreciate them very much! Thanks again
3. I'm sorry to say I've got good reason to believe this is a scam folks. Just found this on Google Images. As you can see it's identical.
4. These guys have some nice-looking stuff! A 5-string '51 P-style made of Mahogany for 190euros? GAS.
5. Well I rang to claim get my 241 cinema ticket today. Absolutely no help at all, didn't sound like they even knew what I was talking about!
6.
Only Trades I may consider is a 5 string Musicman. Nothing specific as long as its a USA Model.
My friend's selling his Stingray 5 on here as he's just picked a Jazz, but it might be worth a look as he's very much into the Fender sound at the moment! The thread is here
7. Like the prices too! http://www.musiciansfriend.com/bass/fender...-precision-bass
8. Says it all in the title In search of some new music! Here's mine: I just love the originality and how tight they are as a band. Cool stuff Oh and that Precision's tasty!
9. I've got a s/h German Corvette $$! Two humbuckers which can be individually coil tapped for parallel/series/single-coil Bass/treble Pick-up pan Passive/Active Adjustable nut/all-round good, reliable hardware Nice chunks of wood Good-lookin' What's not to like?
10. Bought Lee's Monster cables off him! Great communication and really well packaged too! Appreciate the 'Ben Jammin' address Top bloke - deal with confidence!
11.
MM pickup. Preamp. Most importantly of all, Hipshot Bass Tremolo.
Oh dear. I'm going to have to look into those tremolo bridges now, and I bet they don't come cheap! In terms of an overdue update, I've fine sanded it all down, and I've got my hands on a Fender bridge/tuning machine set which will do for the moment... I figure I'm going to buy some CTS pots and wire just the SP2 up, fix it all together and see how it sounds. I've recently acquired an EBS Valve Drive which gives some nice vintage tube-ness and I kind of fancy a vintage P now, going through my 15 - sorry that's a bit dull! Hopefully I'll find the sound too limited and go for the tremolo and MM p'up! My Warwick $$ Corvette has a good tonal palette though so I might just skip the years of trying different basses and settle for a Precision with a tube like everyone else seems too! I do really like that tremolo though. Really like it. Then there's the colour. I really like the CAR suggestion, but I saw a butterscotch P the other day with a black p'guard... Darn my indecisiveness!
12. Those 12/other silly number of strings basses! Why? The fingerboards are as wide and playable as my desk and they sound horrible on the ridiculously low/high strings. If you want that kind of range play piano! Compensating for something?
13. Is that Grundig mic still around? Is it one of these?
14. 50p on a Dunlop Tortex one in Denmark Street. Big thick triangular one x2 of the yellow/green variety. I felt bad because as soon as walked into the shop I got the slightly distasteful look from the bloke behind the till that he knew I was only there to play the nice basses and then leave with no intention or interest in purchasing anything. SLR camera kind of made it obvious I was a tourist. And the Muse shirt. And the fact that Muse were playing in Wembley that night.
15. Hey guys, my friend's selling his Washburn EA16 on. It's a pretty groovy electric acoustic that's rather good for it's price! The pre-amp goes: treble/mid/bass/volume/presence/in-built tuner/battery-check light. XLR and jack output, under-saddle tape mic, sounds cool both plugged/unplugged. Plays quite nicely too! Grover tuners, mahogany back/sides, rosewood board, black binding with a spruce top and a groovy metallic blue finish In mint condititon, comes with gigbag and lead - all for £100, very much open to offers though? It looks exactly like: Cheers!
16. +1 on Matamp making some amazing stuff. I'm looking into getting a head built by these guys. My brother's a guitarist and his Matamp is fantastic - by far the best amp I've heard. I'd go for it if I had the cash right now, it's exactly what I've have them make myself anyway! Good luck with the sale!
17. This + nice set of headphones + on your own = very good listening.
18. Yeah love the look of those Ekos... if you ever decide to get rid I'll take it off you Well I can't say I've tried one but that looks like it'd do the trick - don't know about the whole 'high-output' vibe on an acoustic bass though? I would've thought you'd want something a bit cooler sounding, not hot, on an acoustic. Never heard it though. Still... Precision pick-ups and tone/volume controls?
19. Here's another Eko! A bit whacky, but I actually think it's rather cool It'd solve the problem anyway! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Eko-Acoustic-Bass-Gu...=item3cb7bd2553
20. Ah I'm sorry to hear it, I guess a Jazz is pretty different to a Warwick! I have days when I really do miss that Jazz, but I need the 5 strings, and the Warwick is equally ace in it's own way Gary's a really great guy to trade with and I can testify to that Jazz being pretty groovy! Hope you find the right bass mate
21. I'd go for the 212. You don't need two tweeters for two speakers and they're not that big, and you can always just turn down on the amp. Plus it's cheaper than buying two 112s
22.
Daphne Blue nitro. Something I've been going to do to a bass for years
Daphne blue would be nice My brother's got a '72 Thinline Deluxe Tele in that colour with maple and it's a beaut! (Edit for a better photo)

Ideas?

Hi! Here's the deal: my friend was throwing out his old Encore P-bass, since he's moved on to bigger and better and the poor thing was totally trashed. No screws in the pickguard, missing nut, pots broken and the coils in the p'ups had somehow unwound themselves. However, rather than see it get dumped, I offered to take it off his hands and hopefully make something of it! So here it is at the moment: The original finish was a thick black and ridiculously hard to sand off! The headstock used to be more P style, but at some point my friend had taken a chisel to the headstock to get rid of the Encore logo. Which worked but it obviously didn't look particularly pretty, so I've re-shaped it Tele-style! So the whole thing's bare wood at the moment, apart from the fingerboard which is still finished (basswood body and maple/rosewood neck, all nice and solid). I've got a spare black p'guard and some Seymour Duncan SPB2 p'ups, but apart from that I'm pretty indecisive on what to do with the thing! Sooo... anyone got any ideas? For hardware/extra stuff/any crazy concepts!
